Question:
Am I Crazy For Being Scared of a Possible World War 3?
2013-09-01 21:05:23 UTC
Hi I am 15 years old and I terrified that our country might start World War 3. When I heard on the news that we might attack Syria I was so scared, but nobody in my family is not terrified in the slightest. My whole family thinks I am crazy for worrying, but am I really that crazy for thinking these thoughts. What's stopping people now from bombing us we aren't indestructible countries have enough fuel now than from the two previous World Wars to bomb us with ease. Even my friends are not even worried why is it that I am the only one... Maybe I am crazy for worrying...

Yes you are crazy. No this will not start WW3. No other country has the ability to fight or bomb the US on our own territory.

yes, but everyone else is crazy, too.

this syria thing - 95% that it's a flash in the pan. if you were older and had experienced more of the last 30 years or so, you'd probably see that.

30 years ago yesterday the USSR shot down a civilian airliner, killing 269 people including an American congressman. that was was scarier than this, because of the way things were back in the day with Mutually Assured Destruction and all. if you're bored, read up on the history of the cold war.

anyway, WWIII started a long time ago, and it's not going to end very soon i don't think.

1.Well, Obama himself won't strike Syria. He has to get Congress' approval first.

2. Russia and China is 50% bluffing. They want to do something but don't know what to do yet.

3. Britain voted no to strike Syria but France is still a maybe.

4. We are holding the other middle-eastern countries on a leash and we haven't gave them a signal to strike Syria yet so that's a good sign.

5. If war were to break out like World War lll, chances are our enemies won't reach our coast.

6. We our the best damn country in the world so don't worry.

7. Also don't clear that spot on your mind that it will never happen because it eventually has to.

In World War ll, we dedicated our economy to win the war and that's what would happen if World War lll were to break out. This is called total warfare and we would surpass our enemies in a great advantage.

Do not worry everything will be under control. It is healthy for you to be mentally prepared.

You're definitely not crazy! I think maybe part of the reason your family isn't worried is because they feel like they've seen it all. they've seen previous wars and it didn't effect them too much. This is a normal tendency for people to just expect the status quo to remain.

Honestly though, there is real reason to be concerned. Syria has allies that could retaliate against us if we strike. Hopefully the people in charge will take these risks seriously and determine that it is not wise to intervene in their business (even if it is awful).

President Obama has said that he is going to seek congressional approval. Congressmen are OUR representatives, so we need to tell them how we the people feel about getting involved in another war. Even though you're 15, you can still write/call/email your congressman and let them know your concerns. I've done this several times with my senator and have always received a response. You'd be surprised by how much they listen to their constituents. If enough people tell their representatives that this is not what they want, it might actually make a difference.

Trust me. There was more to worry about when the USSR was still around.

No one wants a third world war. I have no doubt that diplomats (no matter what I think of them) will work out an agreement everyone can live with.

Why worry about it? You have absolutely no control. We have no bomber defense, we have no ICBM defense, we have no SLBM defense. We have no civil defense shelters, no food or water stored away, NADA. If WW III states we are all pretty much screwed. Even if there is only a few dozen nukes going off we are going to see a nuclear winter and we will all starve or go Soylent Green.

Why worry about something you have absolutely no control over? All it does is give you ulcers.

Yes, since you have no control over it whatsoever, and people have been worrying about it since 1945 or so.

You need to find a hobby or something; may I suggest boys/girls (as applicable)?

I'm sorry but russia and china have enough nukes to blow america of the face of the earth without moving a muscle let alone invade.

and to another answer obama does not need congress approval as long as the war is over within 60 days.
