All of the following can disqualify a candidate from

enlisting:

Age:

Each military branch specifies maximum age limits.

Citizenship:

Must be a citizen or properly documented alien

with established US residence.

Dependents:

DOD may prohibit enlistment of applicants with

more than two dependents under age of 18.

Financial:

Recruits must show that they can meet their

current financial obligations if they are

allowed to enlist.

Single Parents:

Single parents not allowed, except for Army

National Guard

Military-Married-to-Military with Dependent(s):

Typically disallowed.

Education:

Usually must be at least a high school graduate

or equivalent.

Drug/Alcohol Dependence:

Cause for rejection.

Criminal history:

Cause for rejection.

Homosexual Conduct:

Rejected if you tell.

Mental Aptitude:

Must score sufficiently on ASFAB test.

Height/Weight:

All branches have specified limits.

The interesting fact is that not many things will disqualify someone. Height and weight standards are the biggest issue. Initial fitness requirements are easy to pass: 17 sit ups in 1 minute, 10(?) push-ups in 1 minute, and a 10 minute mile. Rememeber those are initial requirements. Beyond that, the average person shouldn't have a problem. Someone mentioned flat feet, and yes, that can disqualify you if it is bad enough. Criminal activity is only a huge issue if you want a clearance. If you don't mind being a cook then you are good to go as long as you don't have any outstanding tickets or warrants. Again, everything else pertaining to personal conduct is only an issue if you need a security clearance. As long as you don't have any hardware in your body or major medical issues, you are probably fine. The person who broke down the requirements by category summed it up nicely, but reading the list version seems very discriminating when in actuality the requirements are a lot less stringent when you read into more detail.

One is, and i know this for a fact because i wanted join military school but they told me that i could go to the school but i couldnt go to war, one is because you dont have a brother from the same parents. Or because, if your a girl you dont have a sister. Another is because, though i dont believe this, but another is because you cant have a flat foot.( They say you loose balance easier and you cant run as fast ) But like i said i dont believe it.
