All of the following can disqualify a candidate from
enlisting:
Age:
Each military branch specifies maximum age limits.
Citizenship:
Must be a citizen or properly documented alien
with established US residence.
Dependents:
DOD may prohibit enlistment of applicants with
more than two dependents under age of 18.
Financial:
Recruits must show that they can meet their
current financial obligations if they are
allowed to enlist.
Single Parents:
Single parents not allowed, except for Army
National Guard
Military-Married-to-Military with Dependent(s):
Typically disallowed.
Education:
Usually must be at least a high school graduate
or equivalent.
Drug/Alcohol Dependence:
Cause for rejection.
Criminal history:
Cause for rejection.
Homosexual Conduct:
Rejected if you tell.
Mental Aptitude:
Must score sufficiently on ASFAB test.
Height/Weight:
All branches have specified limits.
Medical Screening:
Many medical conditions can disqualify a
candidate (heart, hearing, eye sight, dental, etc).
