Some of the guys in my platoon in Vietnam said "Kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out!" We usually didn't let them go that far...

In what context?

Let's say a typical person starts shooting back at some would-be assassin, and the cops arrive. Most likely, the cops are going to order everyone to drop their weapons and "arrest" both of them, being unsure who is the perpetrator, and would then deal with who gets taken to jail and who doesn't once they have the situation under control.

However, there is also a risk that one or both of that pair gets shot and killed by the police, which is why the police emphatically do not want normal people getting into gunfights unless they have no other option - you do not grab your gun and go towards the gunfire, you stay put and let the authorities deal with it, lest you get shot or killed or accidentally shoot someone you didn't mean to (which is likely if you have no stress training or are in a crowded area).

If someone is aiming a gun at you for no reason, he is a bad guy. If someone simply has a gun in a holster on them....he is probably a good guy.

If you have the mindset to simply shoot someone who is only carrying a gun, you would be disqualified from owning one due to "having a condition that would make gun ownership dangerous" (i.e. you are nuts).

Hint....someone breaks into your house in the dead of night with a gun....he is a bad guy (unless he comes in with friends and they are all wearing police identification.....then they are good guys or at least you can't shoot them)

This is pretty common sense stuff actually

That's why police and military go through extensive training, and it's still not always easy. Friendly fire happens. In the event of a shooting thing happen very quickly and typically doesn't come to a good guy vs good guy debate, by the time the police or other good guys show, it's typically already over.

You try to use your brain. The wierd looking dude in a trench coat shooting at random people is typically the bad guy. The guy who is pointing his gun at the above mentioned guy is probably the good guy. It's really not that hard. Thousands of police officers across the country deal with it every single day.

By actions.

You don't ever "shoot first and figure it out later."

You need justification even for pulling it out, let alone firing.

Most Laws read "..fear of immediate harm to self or others.."

It's a 'Right' " ... to keep and bear...", and with Right's, come 'Responsibilities'.

If you were a member of the gun owning community you'd have learned that.

I guess, and I have to use some reports I read, that you should wait for them to "draw down" first...in Aurora the shooter let off a full clip and killed and wounded 70 people in one minute of firing, and in Newtown the shooter killed an entire classroom in under two minutes.....you could have stopped that, I guess.....if you were in range, ready and willing in the first 20 seconds or so......and I thank you

So if you see a person with a gun, you just kill them and figure it out later? Not, you know, ask people in the area, see if they're shooting unarmed people or just holding one suspect down?

You just shoot them?

Do the world a favor and never, ever, ever buy a gun.

Exactly, too much TV, not enough parenting, no foster children shouldn't be able own a gun until after they have served in a combat MOS. Is that what you want to hear, hey, if you can't tell than I wonder if you know if you're a good guy or a bad guy yourself...or even a guy?

The one who isn't using the gun to kill other people, and doesn't point it at police. Not that hard.

Imagine a gunman walks into a movie theater and opens fire on the audience. Several people get out of their seats and pull guns of their own to kill the attacker; but who do they shoot? The guy with the gun? You point your gun at him, he points his gun at you, kind of hard to tell who the original shooter was in a darkened room. Chances are they'd shoot each other by mistake.

I'm the good guy, so by process of elimination, anyone who is shooting at me is the bad guy.

If you aren't bright enough to be able to figure it out you shouldn't have a gun. Or keep voting.

if you know your job, you can tell by the weapon they are using

if they shoot at you, they are not on your side
