Question:
What happens if Someone mouths off in Boot Camp or refuses to obey order? Like when Joker in Full Metal Jacket gets cute or in Stripes?

How would The Marines or Army deal with a recruit that was being mouthy or worse shouted back at his DI/Sgt? Or if they said no when given an order, laughed out loud or just decided to try to outsmart their instructor.

I have seen a lot of military films and thought about going in but what happens when recruits get an attitude problem and refuse to submit? Or worse during The Draft just told their DIs that they were only there because they were forced in by the Draft basically rubbing it in.

Each platoon handles it slightly differently.

Refusal to train- believe if or not, people have done this. In the USMC, other recruits (especially the squad leader and the guide) can be punished by the DI for failing to 'motivate' and 'fix' that recruit. Depending on the SDI, Series Gunny, Series Commander and up the chain, they may do some or all of the following besides get IT'ed: be dropped to a following platoon, be ordered to seek medical evaluation, be assigned to a recruit separation platoon and once the paperwork is done, the USMC gets rid of them. The can be charged with a UCMJ Article prior to being kicked out too.

I can only speak from US navy ocs in 2010. Currently military service is completely voluntary in america. If someone mouths off or refuses an order and does not ever change their mind and refuses the instructors attempts to bring them back in line, they are separated (which doesnt happen immediately, you get a menial task and a wage which is immediately paid back to the govt to offset the cost of training you thus far, and your uniform issuance costs). Even then they dont like separating someone, theyd prefer you dropped out of your own accord. So they will make the program extra hard to try to induce your decision to drop on request. if someone mouths off or refuses an order but then realizes they regret doing so and wants to continue training, a lot of repetitive anaerobic exercises that induce pain comes their way ie pushups, leglifts, scissor kicks, etc. Doesnt sound like much but it is. This can stop upon request too but so does your opportunity to continue the accession program.

You would be given a creampuf assignment while the rest of the platoon gets f****d!

The platoon would then throw a party in your honor...a Blanket party.

Here's how it works

Wile you are asleep someone throws a blanket over your head, and everyone takes turns beating the crap out of you.Since your head was covered, you won;t know who did it, and, f course, no one would know a thing.

Since you can;t identify anyone and no one knows a thing, it really never happened. The bruises all over your body have a logical explanation You must have slipped in the shower

You'll be on the next bus out of there; your military "career" finished before it ever began. But before the bus arrives, you'll be pulling extra duty or flat out thrown in the brig if you continue to refuse. You'll also be given a Dishonorable Discharge that will ruin your chances of finding a decent job. Still find anything funny?

BOY you are the KING of "The What If" questions!

Enlist and give it a shot.

Disobeying a verbal order is worth 120 days in the stockade with a Bad Conduct Discharge. Disobeying written regs can get your young American butt locked up for several years or a death sentence.

Those are MOVIES. HOLLYWOOD. "Stripes" is funny; I love the way Warren Oates played Sgt. Hulka.

But it's not REALITY...nor is "Full Metal Jacket" in the modern military. If a DS/DI/MTI/CC/RC hits a recruit...career-ending move, and they know it.

They are "discouraged" from using foul language nowadays, but like THAT is going to happen!

I can't tell you from experience how the Army/Marines/Navy/Coast Guard would handle it, but it's not bound to be pleasant in any service.

I went through Air Force BMT some decades ago. My MTI couldn't finish a sentence without dropping the "F" bomb or threatening to beat seven shades of s**t out of us...but he never DID it, and he knew he COULDN'T. He was like a playground bully - young punk SrA (E-4) severely lacking on the maturity side.

Now our Training Superintendent...BIG black Blue Rope MSgt...James Earl Jones "Voice Of Doom." Rarely yelled - didn't HAVE to. He spoke, and you DID IT, and he knew his stuff.

As to mouthing off? You will be on the TI's s**t list for the rest of BMT, and every s**t detail s/he can think of...guess who's going to end up with it? And guess who's going to be on the rest of your Flight's s**t list when they all get smoked because of your smarta** mouth? I don't think "blanket parties" happen nearly as much as they used to, but it will sure be lonely going through BMT with nobody wanting to be near you because your BB a** loaded your .357 Magnum mouth. And that will follow you to your first duty station (or your Guard/Reserve unit) in your personnel file.

In the AF, there's a little piece of paper called a Form 341. A TI usually demands one when you've made a bad move. Accumulate too many of those and you could be Recycled (set back in training) or on your way back home for Failure To Adapt...if you're lucky you might get an Entry-Level Separation (uncharacterized discharge), or if you're less-than-lucky you might get a Bad Conduct Discharge (BAD NEWS).

If you're going to be a comedian, save it for when you complete Basic Training/Boot Camp and your Technical Training, and you're off duty and it's open-mike night at your local comedy club.

You would get a nice little counceling from your Drills until you keel over and die. If the problem persists you will be given an ELS and given a plane ticket back to your Mom's house and hope Mickey D's will accept you back.

Nobody did anything even remotely like that in my boot camp company. And some of the guys got kicked out for failure to adapt to military life.

First attitude issue and there's a lot of extra exercise for the entire company. Who know who did it and handle the issue late at night. Several attitudes issues and you got pushed back to an earlier company.

We hated getting guys who were pushed back because they were screw ups the exact same as the guys we lost to being pushed back. Again nothing remotely like in movies.

After a couple of times being sent back to earlier weeks, guys got kicked out. We saw a small number get pushed back out of our company. We saw a small number who got pushed back into our company get kicked out of the Navy.

Do stuff like in the movies and you are out on the spot. With maybe a stay in the brig on the way out.

Okay.........if you think STRIPES, was any sort of realistic Military film..........I can assure you.........you will not be stealing any top secret camper vans in boot camp, and invading East Germany with them.

That almost never or rarely happens in my experience .

Although, there *was* that time.................

but I can't talk about that.

Entry Level Separation for Failure to Adapt.

In other words, back to civilian life permanently.

You have a lot of unrealistic fantasies.

The term used when I was at Ft Sill was "conditioning your mind and your body", and it consisted of many, many, pushups and grass drills. The term "getting smoked" also applies in that situation. In other words, negative behavior is corrected promptly and effectively.

They will keep dropping you and you will be there for a long long time as a recruit. Or eventually you will be dishonorably discharged.

Eventually they would get their butt kicked out. In the meantime they would be punished probably by going to the brig
