I see where you are going with this:

Hypothetical:

Yamato vs. U.S.S. Missouri

Close battle if it were ship to ship. Few factors to consider. Yamato had a longer Gun Range and larger tonnage and thicker armor. Missouri had speed and maneuverability plus advanced gunnery radar.

Now, if you are considering a "Jutland" type scenario. Fleet vs. Fleet. ( no aircraft carriers, ) I would go with the Japanese Imperial Fleet.

Reason: The Tone and Chikuma Class Heavy Cruisers outclassed the U.S. support fleets.

Good question. I would think Missouri would win for a couple of reasons. First, even though Yamato had 18" guns to Missouri's 16"guns, Missouri had longer range, and far better accuracy. She was also faster, and much more maneuverable. The U.S. fast battleships were much more technologicly advanced, having radar controlled guns, and automatic feeders. While Yamato was without question an impressive warship, she was plagued with problems. Towards the end, the Imperial Navy had suffered immense losses, were without raw materials to build new ships, and for the most part, all of their major shipyards and manufacturing plants were destroyed. The result of that was Yamato was constantly breaking down. There were no new parts to replace the worn, broken, or damaged parts. The culmination of all that was the Japanese Navy's decision to send Yamato out on what was essentially a Kamikaze mission, during which time she was destroyed. Anyway, Missouri would have won.

Let's say in a fantasy world where both ships are revived with their best incarnation and best crew.

Mighty Mo is still going to mop the floor with the Yamato because while the Yamato was sleeping with the fishes for the past 50 years the Mighty Mo was only recently retired in 1992, before that the upgrades to Mighty Mo were in the 1980's are:

8 new armored box launchers for Tomahawk cruise missiles

4 quadruple canister launchers for 16 anti-ship harpoon missles

Weapons much more high-tech, accurate, effective and long range than its 16" gun turrets.

Probably the Mighty Mo didn't even need a good crew just someone that could target the Yamato 2500km away with the Tomahawk's, at 2500km away with 8 launchers its not really a fair fight.

To make it fair you probably had to add the Bismarck and Tirpitz in the Yamato's fleet.

Well, if you're talking in real time, the Yamato couldn't possibly accomplish much because on April 7, 1945 she was hit by successive waves of US carrier based aircraft and sank after absorbing at least thirteen torpedo hits. Less than 300 out of 3,400 crew onboard survived.

Missouri because the Yamato was sunk and the mighty Mo is still around...

The MIGHTY MO had radar fire control which would give her the advantage , Yamato would be pounded PINK before she could get to visual range .

I'd say Missouri because it's the one most recently used. (see Gulf War) Yamato is old and doesn't have tomahawks and AEGIS or whatever.

The Yamato would win because it had bigger guns and better trained sailors.

Never played "Naked Battleship" but I have played other naked games. Everybody is a winner.
