I am not asking what branch has best sniper or best training but what branch are you most likely to get a shot at going to sniper school between army, marines, national guard( I found out that army national guard has it's own sniper school separate from normal army sniper school)

no branch has a lot of snipers in comparison to its force size, you dont need that many. thats what its really based off of: needs of the force. no branch is going to send you to sniper school if they dont NEED you to go, since theres not a lot of sniper school slots to begin with and they're hard to get.

honestly id say active army would give you the best shot since they have the most sniper positions, you might even be able to reenlist for it if you're up to the required standards.

Army....bigger branch of the service than the Marines so has more snipers.

Test yourself. Get a rifle. can you hit a dime sized target at 200 yards consistently? If not, you need to do some practice. If you barely can shoot at basic they are not going to consider you as a sniper. If you get your expert marksmanship badge the first time on the range, they will.

Do this test also.....Put on heavy pants and a sweater. Go lay down in the yard on your hands and knees as if you are slowly crawling forward, with your arms and legs out to the side. Now, assume a freeze position and stay there for two hours without moving. No repositioning your legs or arms, no wiping the sweat out of your eyes, just stay absolutely still for two hours. If you can not do that or you think it is stupid, you probably are not sniper material. Being a sniper is not just about taking the shot, you have to get into range to take the shot and sometimes that takes hours or even days sneaking up on the target. Sometimes you have to freeze so the enemy, using binoculars, does not see you. (They got snipers with scopes too and if they see you, they can shoot you too.) One test you will have to pass in sniper school is to sneak up on an instructor with him looking for you with binoculars and he does not see you. That means you move very very slow, inches at a time, sometimes taking hours to go a few hundred feet. That is the hard part of being a sniper, getting within range of the target, taking the shot is the easy part.

In the Marine Corps it depends on the unit you are assigned to. For example when I first came to my unit they sniper platoon was only sending to school the senior guys mainly corporals and sergeants that had been in the plt for quite a while and then if there happened to be room for extra students they would send them but after we got back from deployment they were hurting on people because of injuries and because a lot of them were separating from the marine corps so they started testing new people and almost immediately sending them to sniper school but something for sure is they wont send you if you don't have at least one deployment as an infantryman. I hope you find this info useful good luck

No, unfortunately those jobs are not open to women. Marines are riflemen first always so you will have the opportunity to qualify on a rifle but you will only be able to have a non-direct combat job, and unfortunately that MOS falls under the infantry umbrella. The Marine Corps has the least amount of MOS' open to women. If you talk to a recruiter they can give you a list of jobs that are open to you. And to George S the Russians used women out of necessity as did a few other countries during WWII, but not after.

Too many TV shows about snipers.

I just now typed 'sniper' into the Y! Answers dialog dialog box. I got over 27,000 hits. Now not all of these pertain to military sniping. But gee whiz kids...
