Question:
Why do people think Iraq is like Vietnam?
2007-06-29 18:34:14 UTC
S. Vietnam is a country that America was in. America was actually fighting the N. Vietnamese without having to invade N. Vietnam afraid of the Might of the Chinese invasion of the south like in Korean war. Iraq is a new war being fought within a country not like in Vietnam. America was bombing N. Vietnam, the US didn't get to bomb any other country outside of Iraq. The VietCOngs were actually N. Vietnamese out of uniforms.

It is like Vietnam in the following ways:

-We entered without an exit strategy

-We entered without tangible objectives

-We entered with less than overwhelming force

-Our government oversight of the war has been inadequate

-There is widespread profiteering by American corporations

I'll give it some thought I'm sure other points have occurred to me over the last 4+ years of needless American losses.

It is and it isnt. Vietnam there was an invitation from an elected government to help fight a civil war against an aggressive rebel group. All countries involved on the side of the south had a right to be there.

Iraq was an illegal invassion and no country had the right to be there.

However like vietnam the freedom fighters of iraq will outwait the invaders. America has no stomach for holding hostile territory when it is politically unwise to do so.

Because of all the medias liberal propaganda, falsely leading the American people to believe that we are bogged down in a quagmire of sorts. Without proper support financially and as a free people we will get bogged down.

Spineless politicians acting as if we are in a corner with no way out.

Do you notice that almost all the troops killed in this war are killed by roadside bombs? What roadside bombs in Vietnam? Ambushed in the jungles, what jungles in Iraq?

Vietnam was fought in the tropical jungles, this one is more urban warfare in the open sandy desert of the middle east.

Communists were the enemy then.... today it's insurgent terrorists that represent a false religion.

Its all political BS...and if we cut and run....we are done as a free nation.

The world today is a different time and place, so was Vietnam.

Vietnam was a long protracted war with little or no visible progress over the years.... just like Iraq.

In Vietnam you couldn't tell who the enemy was, you could get killed by anyone around you... just like Iraq.

In Vietnam the national government was hopelessly ineffective, just like Iraq.

The people of Vietnam were not able to organize themselves to protect themselves, just like in Iraq.

The Viet cong would fight like terrorists and be supported by the North Vietnamese, just like the Iraqi terrorists being supported by outside countries.

No matter how we tried we could not make the South Vietnamese strong enough to win their own war. Just like our situation in Iraq.

Both wars are not in the interest of the USA. Both not a threat to the USA. Both wars the major population were against the wars. ( 70% of the American people are against the war in Iraq) The USA fought for 10 years in Vietnam and told everyone we would prevail, Endure, and win in the end. We did not. We lost Vietnam on 30th april 1975. We now tell people we will "WIN" in Iraq. ( Endure, Prevail and all that kind of lies) Any idea what date we will lose Iraq? Stay tuned.

The Dems have called Iraq Bush's Vietnam because they think it is a war that can't be won.

Of course, they've forgotten that one of the greatest Democratic presidents (JFK) started US involvement in Vietnam. It took a weak Republican president (Nixon) to get out. So, the Dems are actually comparing Bush to Kennedy.

None of the Dem spin is true. We are winning, and we cannot allow the sacrifice of our brave soldiers to turn to nothing due to political ambitions of the socialists in our midst.

It has similar aspects. The sympathy of neighboring countries. Civil war after occupation. Resistance to our occupation. The chance to positively influence a nation has failed in both cases. If we give up and come home the results will be very similar. It is easy to find ways to compare the wars.

1. America is killing innocent people

2. America is acting the big shot

3. America should just stay out of other people's business and worry about her own people and the debts she has created fighting pointless wars.

Unpopular war, dragging on with no end in sight, militarily unwinnable, no way to exit and save face. Sound familiar?

Because they are trying to turn it into Viet Nam.

There are parallels:

The US military is winning on the ground.

The enemy's only hope is with American civilians.

The media villainizes the US, it's military and their efforts.

Certain politicians are using my fallen brothers' bodies to get votes despite understanding our national interests are at stake.

"Peace" protestors are emboldening our enemy to kill our soldiers and continue thier efforts.

The enemy understands that they must appeal to the American civilian with no knowledge to win.

The enemy knows that Americans have short memories.

Certain politicians are trying to de-fund our efforts and our allies in order to create an apparent loss.

Certain politicians wish to turn their back on a democratic ally.

Both wars really have one underlying motive.

CORPORATE PROFIT.
