That the USMC is the only branch fighting? That the only job of the US Army is to clean up whatever the USMC leaves behind? Is there some sort of moron out there spouting this off as fact to civilians nationwide?

I've been wondering the samething for awhile and I think you can attribute it to their propaganda and gullible Americans. I think it was Roosevelt that said something to the effect of the marines have the best propaganda machine, I can't remember the exact qoute. It also has to do with wildly inaccurate movies, the media, idiot kids that, especially on here, just repeat everything they hear. It really is a shame because regular marines are no better than regular army soliders but the army is always put down. It is just stupid the answers people give on here. Like marines are all spec ops, join them. Or the closest thing to the marines in the army are rangers but marines are still better trained. I mean give me a break. The marines are the few because they lack the budget to be anything else.

Someone just answered a question saying force recon is the pinnacle of special operations, correct me if Im wrong but arent the marines not even under SOCOM? Army or marines your good in my book, neither is more prestigous than the other, nor is one overly better or worse then the other.

Mgan is right, ever since WWII the marines have put forth the best PR plan out there.



Sure army does more than its fair share of fighting but when you bring in just a few battles from WWII you don't even need to talk about anything else any other branch has done.



I mean like say the navy, they have the richest history of all of our armed services. From the barbary wars to the kamikaze attacks they had gone through a lot and came out shinning. But now when people think of the navy its just floating around in a ship. Or the chair I mean air force. Even though they are our youngest branch they still have done a lot in the last 3 wars alone to make them heroes.

LOL, it's just the reputation the Marines Corps has. The primary mission of the Marine Corps is to be a deployed force worldwide. The Army can take months to deploy as in the Gulf War.



But, I respect the Army for its capabilities. If you need heavy armor or a force for a long drawn out battle, call the Army. The Marine Corps isn't equipped for that and shouldn't be used as a second Army.



We all know the U.S. Army is the best heavy fighting force in the world.



EDIT-- Don't go dissing the Air Force and Navy, either. They bring the food, ammo, and such that we need to sustain a battle.

Hell it is because they have to keep their reputation up so they do not become disassembled. So they have the biggest propaganda machine and always reporting from the front so the public backs them up. The army fights just as hard plus the army has technically been in deployed first every war we have fought in since our beginning of our country. Also i respect all branches and through all the marines and army navy and af all fight equally. Different roles means different jobs.Research and i just went through meps yesterday for army leave for basic in 2012/07/24.



I think civilians can have their opinion but until they serve they will never know.

Media...? if you look at tv shows (sh1t like history channel shoot out) the majority of the stories are about marines. Also stupid cheesy action films where the dude is always an ex marine.

Because, overall, tthe Marines are more publicized, have a more bad*** image, and that`s who the nosy couch potatos want to hear about. It`s disgusting, honestly. They think the Army is old and outdated. ADD: Don`t diss the Navy or Air Force, either. That`s just as bad.

Civilian fill their head with rumors and farces about the military. It's all the media for the most part. Like, because I'm in the Air National Guard I never see combat, and my job is as easy as sitting on my ***.The military ruins lives, we don't need the military to be overseas, Army is the only branch worth joining, and all Marines are special forces.



Kids play video games, the media hates when people die, people are afraid to leave their comfort zone. It all breeds rumors.

I'm sure a guy who's been an Infantry war-fighter for 30 years couldn't last a day in training that you send civilians to for initial entry.

All I know is that my friend in the Marine Corps graduated boot camp summer of '10 and hasn't been deployed or seen combat.

& my husband graduated Basic Training in August of '11 and is Army Infantry and he is being deployed to Afghanistan in December for a year.

Idk the answer to your question. But recently some kids I go to school with called me a ***** for wanting to join the Army instead of the Marines. Funny thing is, these kids said the same thing you stated " All you will do is clean up for the Marines, their the badass' "
