In 1965 Pakistan attacked India because they thought India was devastated by the 1962 Sino-Indian war. The war ended in a UN mandated ceasefire with no territorial changes.
In 1965 Pakistan sent insurgents into Kashmir to carry out a rebellion in disguise as Kashmiris. The plan failed terribly when the Kashmiri people informed the Indian government about the insurgency.
Why Pakistanis ever believe they could defeat India?

In Pakistan it is being taught that they have won the war. In you tube you can see some videos that showing that Pakistan captured RANN near Kutch at Gujrat. Actually it was being handed over to them under British -India -Pakistan treaty which is about 293 sq. Km where as a bigger part was handed over to India. There is no mention of the deal in youtube or any other social media. Now the thing is India was supposed to take control of Lahore even and entered in Pakistani area and captured some police station near to Lahore. Then became the cease fire from UN and India retreated. But if you calculate it's an Indian win. But the thing is we can't understand why Pakistan doing so much engineering to attack years after years. It's the ultimate loss of their own wealth and people. They assumed at that time the HINDU MENTALITY is lower in fighting than the Pakistanis and the Indian PM was Lal Bahadur Shastry, a vegetarian. So, they thought that the Indian Army is docile and can't resist them. Few years back India was defeated by China. So, the Iron is red and heat them this time. So, the attacked and ultimately lost. But so many Indian lives has been sacrificed for Kashmir and still doing. Indian Govt. is doing so much expenses behind the people of Kashmir, in education, in road, in public health etc. and see the part of Azad Kashmir which is controlled by Lahore. The way the Kashmiri people are living there and their status . Still the Kasmiri people ask us are you from India means they don't think they are also a part of India. They will be happy when Pakistan wins a Cricket match. Why Indian national flag should not be flying in every part of Kashmir?

Or should Indian Govt. take policy like pakistan or Bangladesh to make them evacuate Kashmir and make it again a Hindu state by force?.....

These are excerpts from American Congressional Study.,

" The war was militarily inconclusive; each side held prisoners and some territory belonging to the other. Losses were relatively heavy—on the Pakistani side, twenty aircraft, 200 tanks, and 3,800 troops. Pakistan's army had been able to withstand Indian pressure, but a continuation of the fighting would only have led to further losses and ultimate defeat for Pakistan. Most Pakistanis, schooled in the belief of their own martial prowess, refused to accept the possibility of their country's military defeat by "Hindu India" and were, instead, quick to blame their failure to attain their military aims on what they considered to be the ineptitude of Ayub Khan and his government. The superior Indian forces, however, won a decisive victory and the army could have even marched on into Pakistani territory had external pressure not forced both combatants to cease their war efforts."

Last line says all. External pressure meaning pressure from our politicians..

Pakistan's all serious crimes are overlooked. I dont think it would have been wrong if india continued to be aggressive until India claimed PoK.. We had already reached Lahore. Bargaining would have been quite easy...

None won as it was a situation where Indian army advanced in some sectors of Pakistan and similarly Pakistan also. But Indian army got well equipped when 1971 war begun, Pakistan was having no match and they lost the then East Pakistan , now Bangla Desh.

The Indians would have won. They have a larger population and a well-trained Army, a legacy of their being part of the British Empire. The Paks are much more disorganized and depend on ad-hoc guerilla tactics, as we can see from Pakistan's current military maneuvers in the Afghanistan war.

Pakistan can't even defeat the militants in their own country. Because of Pakistan's incompetence the rest of the world suffers from terrorism.
