The name (an acronym - that is) is AWACS - Airborne Warning and Control System - the saucer is actually a large radar antenna. The USAF currently employs to such duties modified Boeing 707 aircrafts. Japanese Air Force uses a modified Boeing 767. Various armies around the globe use different systems. The Russian version is probably the largest. They are using a modified version of their huge IL-76 airlifter, named Beriev A-50. Around the world aircrafts such as Gulfstream, Embraer or Boeing-737 are used.
