I'm a high school seinor. I'm in the Army National Guard. My unit deploys in march. But i'll still be in high school ...in july i have BCT/AIT and then after that i have college first option. and then is there a limit of how much time you are allowed to stay home. until being redeployed?

You will not deploy until you complete IET. You might get yanked from high school and slammed into an IET course outside of the schedule that you were expecting, but I doubt it. It is far easier for your unit to staff your slot with an already trained soldier.

You really need to talk to your company commander and find out your status. If you have a drill soon, grab your squad leader by the ear and drag him up the chain of command to get you an answer -- if he is worth his stripes, he has already checked on your status and will have an answer. Be warned -- the answer might be "we dont' know yet".

Good luck and thanks for enlisting in these troubled times.

You won't deploy until you are trained. If you aren't trained what would you do? You won't be considered trained until you finish AIT. You won't go to AIT until you graduate High School. If you don't graduate High School your contract will be canceled. You maybe can get a new contract with a GED if they accepting GED but you will still need to be trained, meaning finishing AIT. Not sure how the finish college first works, talk to your Recruiter about that.

If they go in March 09 and you don't go to BCT/AIT till July of 09 then oh course you will not go with them. You can NOT deploy until you've been to and graduated BCT and AIT.

First off, you must be in the DEP program because you can't join until after you've graduated. Second, you can't deploy until you're 18 anyway, so I wouldn't sweat it. Plus you have to go boot camp first. By the time you've finished basic and AIT and returned to your unit, your unit should be back. On the off chance that they haven't, yes you run the chance of being deployed. There's no set time where you get to stay home prior to being deployed. National Guard units don't deploy very much though, so you should definitely have time to go to college. I wouldn't worry too much about their deployment.
