Question:
Marine Corps questions, 10 points!?
?

This pertains to the Marine Corps, but if you have any knowledge on these questions, feel free to answer.

1. Is 03xx really as bad as people make it sound? What are the pros/cons of this MOS?

2. When do you qualify to live off base?

3. What requirements do you have to meet for the QEP? Is even anything special or just another recruiter gimmick?

4. I plan on going to a tech school for commercial diving after my [potential] Marine career. Everyone wants me to go to college and go the Officer route. I honestly don't feel like paying for 4 years of college if I just want to get out of here and get going. Plus the GI Bill will cover the tech school anyways. How do I get this point across to them because there have been some pretty upset people at me in my family. (2 are officer's, 1 enlisted - do not see any other routes of military service other than Officer.)

Thanks for the help.

1. It depends on the unit. Lots of hikes, movement exercises, range times and sometimes being on dumb working details. Often times in an infantry unit, the newer Marines (called boots) get messed with. Once you prove yourself in the unit, it goes away. There are two major paths to infantry (not including special operations, recon or scout sniper): security forces (Fleet Anti Terrorism Team) and the being in the infantry battalion. The lifestyles of the two are different.

2. Those with dependents can live off base guarantee. For singles (Sgts and below) they may be forced to stay on base depending on their command.

3. Basically if you score a high enough on the ASVAB and meet other requirements for the technical field, you will get to choose the MOS within the technical field.

4. As of Oct of last year, the Post 911 GI Bill covers vocational education (technical school) so you have nothing to worry about. Hopefully you're not going to bartending school because that's not covered.

03XX is a competitive MOS these days and hard to get, so I`d rethink that attitude if I were you.

You could enlist, go to college, then go to OCS.
