2 questions about the military and boot camp?

So I'm gunna start with the easier and probably dumb question. Do all marines no matter what MOS you are get dog tags or only infantry.

Now for the other. My boot camp date is january 24th. I'm assuming that means the day I start boot camp. But then I realized that last time I went to MEPS all the recruits heading to boot camp stayed in a hotel the previous night and head to MEPS in the morning with the rest of us. So if my contract says jan 24 then when do I actually leave my house because my mom wants to throw me a going away party but she isn't sure what day to do it on.

You'll leave home on Sunday, Jan. 23rd and arrive at MCRD sometime that night. One of the little secrets is they don't let recruits in training see new recruits coming in. This would give them something to feel superior about when they are breaking down new recruits into subhumans before they become Marines. All of Marine training is highly compartmentalized so that you don't see recruits in a less advanced stage of training until you are near graduation.

You will go from home to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, not to a hotel. You better throw the party on Friday night and give yourself Saturday to recover.

Everyone in the military gets dog tags. These are to identify you if you are a casualty. Apparently, the one on the small chain is a toe tag and the other gets placed in the mouth.

As for shipping out. Jan 24th is the date that you will get your paperwork finalized at MEPS and will be shipped out for training. You will have to go to the hotel the night before which would be the 23rd. If your mom wants to have a going away party, make it the weekend before you ship.

So good luck.
