I'm 17, almost 18. I got this letter in the mail. Dear registrant: Please keep this letter or the wallet sized registration acknowledgment provided below as proof of your registration. Please review it carefully. Use the top portion of this letter to update and/or correct your information. Mark through any mistakes and write the correct information. And on part of the letter says if I move I to notify selective service system within 10 days of any change. What the hell is this?? I didn't sign anything. I'm not going to the military right? I don't want to work for the NWO. Why do I have a selective service number?

just register. if you want to get pell grants, federal student loans, or EVER work for the government (to include as a government contractor) - you'll need to be registered with selective service. there is no draft, there is not going to be one. it's pointless, i will agree. but i got the same letter in the mail...in fact, i think it was a postcard, when i turned 17.

register, then sleep easy tonight, it's not a big deal. even if you object and never plan on going to the military, if you want federal aid for about anything, it's required if you are a guy. welcome to becomming a man!

even after serving 23 years in the Air Force, when i applied for the job i had with the government i have now - i had to list my selective serivce registration number! if i hadn't registered, i wouldn't have the job, and i'd be too old to register now!

Simmer down. You are merely registered with Selective Service as is required by law. There is no draft and hasn't been for forty years. You are not going to be forced to join the military. You were probably automatically registered when you submitted some other government form. You may need that selective service number in the future if you intend to apply for certain jobs or apply for federal or state grant money.

edit: Yep, automatic when you apply for financial aid.

Because every male in America does.

Just forget about it because the only thing that matters is that you're now eligible for federal jobs and loans.

You probably signed up when you filled out some .GOV form (like a drivers license) and they automatically registered you.

Edit:

"but my mom recently signed me up for financial aid"

Then there is your answer
