I know that rangers are picked and so are special forces.
Would it be smart to be a ranger in the 75th then got to special forces a several years later and try to get in delta several years after that?

The 1st SFOD-D does not recruit from the regular Army, only from among the special operations community and primarily within the Army. This means the majority of candidates will be from the Rangers or Army Special Forces with a few possibly being invited from special operations forces in other branches of the military. Rumour has it that 70% of Delta are former Rangers but I cannot confirm this number.

You do not find Delta. Delta finds you. Worry about getting selected into either the 75th or SF first, then perform your job well and you may find that magical email invitation in your inbox one day. They have their own criteria and if you happen to fit in that criteria you'll get your opportunity. Crawl, walk, then run.

Delta is of general sign up. Ranger, SF, or any unit in the 18th airborne corps would help 10MNT Div is a great place to get ready for the physical demands of the test.

Even if you get thought all the physical crap they still pick very few people. Most operators are late 20 or early 30s very smart, and have a skill. Meaning lock picking, electrical and computer super skills, etc. Even if you do all of that, and pass all the psychological tests. most are turned away due to not fitting into the group..... bottom line, the guys why are all stars in Ranger bats, and SF groups try out of it and 95 % are turned away. Best of luck and thanks for your service.

yes, you really only need two years of service, but getting into the rangers would increase your chances.
