Question:
Was It Scary To Go In The Armed Services?
2009-03-28 17:22:27 UTC
Man I am 15 and the only way I am going to go to College is if I go into the Armed Services or Rotc which is the Armed Services. I am not scared of anything but the thought of being over there scares the **** out of me. I really don't think I could do it, I mean you have to be not strong but incredible. So my question is when you enlisted or what ever you did to get there were you scared or not. Thanks for any advice anybody has thanks

and I know there are other options but I really think that protecting your country is a great thing I am just asking.

Not much to be scared of in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is blown way out of proportion by the media. You're 15? By the time you get through ROTC, assignments to Iraq will be like Germany in the 80s.

Hey, really don't worry about it now. This answer is for if you are a Canadian Forces applicant or soon to be applicant.

You can choose the road to be in the reserves. Meaning you will not have to be shipped out the country to defend the country. You will also get pay, food, clothing, shelter. Inside a armoury, within your province. You don't have to be strong, wait until you are 16 check with your high school CO-OP TEACHER and then you can go in through the co-op program, enabling you to be 16 and join the forces. You will join the BMQ/SQ course and will be paid for it. The amount is about 90$ a day, with breakfast and lunch provided. Good luck! Don't hesitate to email me for further questions!

It ok to be frightened, someone without fear is dangerous. I was in the service 81-87, from the time I was 19, intell analysis, so a lot of desk work, but I did to stints in Iraq/kuwait. Being jewish and a woman, it can be very hard in the middle east in that environment but all things pass. Just stick to whats in front of you today and plan for the future as you go. Good luck!

Alright bro, im 17 and going to the marines here soon. My suggestion to you is if your scared to go into combat dont choose a combat job. Go to the navy, national guard or somethin. Hell i cant wait to go into combat but thats just me. Also go rotc if your wanting to go to college and become an officer. Remember choose the best job that will help you with your future.

If you are not scared when you get off that bus at basic training, check your pulse, you may be dead. Everyone is afraid, and if they say they are not, they lied, but when you get there, you realize that the Drills are there to do a job, train you. They want you to succeed and will help you get where you need to be physically and mentally, but don't forget, they can, and do, yell, so my advice to you is keep your mouth shut and move when told to do so.

A little, like your dad yelling at you when you were little for doing something wrong, other than that, it is a blast, lots of hard work, always good food and lots and lots of good people around you, friends you will have for life, And just like life, keep you nose clean and work hard and you will excel in the military.

Being scared is a good thing. Its not that bad. It can be hell in combat but remember, you have a future in this world. You have examples to set. Continue setting and achieving you goals. If its supposed to happen, (death) then it will happen in combat or at home.

All men have fear, it is what we do with our fears that defines us.

Like the great men of TROY, to conquer ones fears means to conquer your opponents. FIGHT ON FOR OL SC!!
