what's the hourly wage for an e-1 and how many hours would i get on average? say i'm stationed in singapore, would i be working in singapore or on the ship, i know that depends on my rate but hypothetically speaking which one?

1) Being in the Navy is a job, not going to college, so YES you do work year-round. You will NOT be able to come back home and live with your parents. You can come back to visit them.

2) You CAN"T deploy right after Boot Camp, you go to A School for training/schooling in your Rating (job). It can be from 5 weeks to 2 years in length. When finished A School you can go back home to visit your family/friends before reporting to your first command.

3) There is NO hourly wage in the military, it is a salary. E1 w/less than 4 months in you get $1357.40 per month before deductions. After that it goes up but not by much, figure making around $1000/$1300 a month in pay. The hours you work will be long, you work nights, weekends and holidays.

4) You WON"T be stationed in Singapore your first command, the commands there usually require you to be at least E5 if not E6 before assignment there. There is NO ship in Singapore, it is land based commands. The closest place for a ship is Guam. You can be stationed stateside or depending on your Rating maybe Japan, Guam, Hawaii, Greece, Spain, or Italy.

The Navy works 24/7 365. You work your shift and you can take leave when you command approves it. You get 30 days paid leave. You also have a work schedule that does give you some time off. If you are on a ship, obviously your time off is spent on the ship unless you are in port and have liberty. If you are stationed to a particular geographic location, when your ship is not deployed you work either on the ship while it is docked or on the base.

Hourly wage

monthly wage 1,467.60

days in month 30

hours in month 30x24= 720

pay per hour = 1467.60/720=$2.04

However, this does not count your housing and food and any other special pays that you may get in addition to your base salary.

After boot camp, you go to your rate (technical) school. After that you are assigned to your duty station/ship. If the ship is scheduled to deploy, you deploy. By the way, your first day of active duty starts the day that you ship to boot camp.

Of course you'll work year round. You are granted 2.5 days of leave each month which makes for 30 days a year, that's you're only time off. The waiting time depends, ask your recruiter, actually a lot of these questions you can ask a recruiter. There are no "hourly wages" in the military. You will mostly be on a ship, very few jobs are shore, if you were to be stationed in Singapore you'll be in Singapore on a ship.

If you are in the military you are considered an adult. As an adult why would you ever want to live with your parents. The Navy is a full time job, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The Navy never takes a day off. As a military member you get 2 1/2 days of leave a month.

24/7/365. leave is granted when authorized

no. once you ship out you never have to return if you don;t want to

it can take up to a year before reporting to Great lakes for Boot Camp

no you will go to A school first, then possibly C school before reporting to your first duty station. deployment can and does happen at any time after that.

you do not get paid by the hour as you are duty 24/7. you get paid a base pay and when authorized, additional pays and allowances such as Sea pay.

your command can be a ship, submarine or squadron as well as a shore command. you will work at your command, where ever it is.

Pearl Harbor, HI; Barking Sands, Kauai; Guam; are places with beaches and warmer climates most of the year. Then there is also Rota, Spain; Naples & Sigonella, Italy; Souda Bay, Greece in Europe. They will not be warm necessarily all year round. Okinawa is another option so is Diego Garcia. Singapore is good for warm weather and night life but no beaches to really lie on or swim at. They do have a pool there or you can go to Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, etc.. but getting there can be difficult if this is your first orders.

everyones experience is different.

I took the ASVAB with a friend just because in high school. I ended up talking to a recruiter after i graduated. I scored an 84 so that qualified me to be a Corpsman. After i talked to the recruiter we filled out paperwork and the following week went to meps to get my job. all i wanted was to be a coprsman and they said they didnt have any positions for a girl so i told them no thank you (I had no contract so i was not obligated to stay) then magically they had a position for Dec (this was in July) . i signed my contract and was sorn into the dep program. In dec 08 i went to boot camp. graduated the end of jan. we were the last of our graduating class to arrive so we had to stay an extra weekend. but the following monday we went to our "A" schools. mine was across the street from boot (ha) after there i signed up for another school (C) in San diego. none of my classmates from corps school have been deployed yet but there are a few of them that are currently attached to a marine unit.

You can join with no job in mind and strike for one. that mean you pretty much go to a ship after boot and clean or cook and do b***ch work.

we get payed on a salary. so per month you will get about 1500 a month before taxes. if your married you will be eligable for special pay.

if your at a shore command (ex. not a ship, or on deployment) you will usually get weekends off unless you have estra duty. if your on a ship of delopyment you get no time off. you can ask permission to get time off but you might want to save that time up incase of emergencies. you earn 30 days a year that you can ask for time off.

Yes you will work year around, you will not be returning to live with your parents unless you take leave (vacation).

I have worked 45 days in a row 16 hours a day. I have worked 20 hours a day for 5 days in a row. I have worked 39 hours with only breaks for meals. This during a time when we were not at war.

You get 30 days leave a year, you can accumulate it for 2 years for 60 days.
