Before we start. Please give me real and good answers.I want to enlist in the military. I got a good score on my asvab and my Navy and Marine Corps recruiter said my scores qualify me to try out for Spec Ops. I don't know what branch to go to. I like how the Navy travels so much but I like what the Marines represent. If I try out for MARSOC then if something happens to where I don't make it then I can still do infantry. But with the Navy Seals, if I don't make it then I get a regular job. I believe that I can become a Navy Seal and MARSOC operator. I want to travel in the Navy. But I also want to go to the Marines because nobody else will. And which Spec Ops is better between MARSOC and Seals? Which choice do you think is best? And don't say comments saying that I can't make it. I already know the attrition rate.

You cannot try out for MARSOC right after boot camp. You have to be MOS qualified and at least a lance corporal.

Also you cannot be both Navy SEAL and MARSOC. They are two separate military branches and you must be serving in one or the other. You obviously need to conduct a lot more research into both. You kids who always want to compare of determine which is "better" or "more elite" is fricking childish.

Conduct exhaustive research into each branch (ie Navy and Marine Corps) and then into each Special Operations Forces (SOF), ie Navy SEALs and MSOR/Critical Skills Operator (CSO). They both have different histories, lineage, requirements and pathways. Trying out for Navy SEALs may be an option directly from enlistment, but MARSOC/MSOR will NOT be.

Seals if you are a long distance swimmer. Marines if you are a long distance runner.

edit: there was a scary presentation that all in my Navy boot camp had to attend. They were Seals and there was a pyrotechnics display in the dark. Only two out of hundreds passed the physical part of the test and only one passed the running part. I have short legs and a thick and long torso and was never a good runner so I missed the boat. The one guy who passed the Seal test in boot camp was taken away by the Seals in a jeep and I don't know what ever happened to him. Two years later when overseas I was selected for a little Seal training for Wet Fox.

Honestly the guys that make it through those pipelines already know and have known that's what they want to do. Asking for opinions and asking if you should go out isn't a good sign. If you haven't already made up your mind by now, you should reconsider for another job.

Reality Check: your recruiter might be blowing sunshine up your ***. Lots of people "qualify to try out" for SOF with their ASVAB scores. The majority of people that join the military and have the opportunity to try out don't try out immediately, and for good reason. I knew someone who attempted MARSOC before even going to the fleet, he washed out, the simple truth was he wasn't ready for it. Unless your an over achiever at boot camp and your that boy wearing the dress blues at graduation, don't bother, wait for a deployment, at least wait till you've been to 29 Palms before you try out for SOF.

Just a bit of advice...

Also, for MARSOC at one point they drop you off the coast of ******* Florida and your *** has to get back to land.
