Me and a friend are planning on joining once we are 18,

problem is he had to move across the country to Arizona, we still talk on the phone.

But is the buddy system just for the Army Reserve?

will we be stationed in the same countries/states if we are in the system?

Careful planning and negotiation can get you together through basic, AIT, and your first assignment. After that, no bets, but you will keep seeing many of the same folks throughout your career.

Even if you decide on a different MOS, you can still opt for the same duty station. That means you won't be in the same barracks, but at least you'd be neighbors again.

The buddy system is for all branches. It's only for bootcamp though. You will leave for bootcamp and possible be classes together while in bootcamp. If you have the same job you may end up in the same class as well.

The buddy system is in all branches. It only pertains to boot camp. If you get a different mos than your buddy you will go two different ways.

If you both qualify for the same MOS' then you go thru basic, and can be stationed with each other for 2yrs .
