Hey, quick question. I plan on joining the Marines and will obviously go through MEPS. I have pretty good eye sight, but I know I don't have 20/20 (I can see just about everything except small print far away). Do they make you wear glasses or anything?

If your vision doesn't need correction, you won't be forced to wear glasses. However if it does you will have to wear, at least through boot camp and MCT, your BCG's (birth control glasses...lol!) Not to worry, you don't have to wear them later and as long as they meet the MCO you can wear civilian glasses or contacts. I would still hold on to those ugly glasses though, they come in handy when you don't want to mess up your nice glasses or deal with contacts while you're in the field.

Don't BS MEPS. If you are permitted to join and you say nothing about the suspected glaucoma and they find it in the myrid of boot camp physicals, you will be packed up and sent home. Go see a specialist. If they tell you that you have no issues....then you can answer MEPS honestly that you have no physical issues. Semper Fi, Z

If you need corrective vision the Navy will provide it, and you will be required to wear them. Lasik is now being offered in the military. At your age it would be a real asset to have this done, if it is offered.
