I understand the US Army has changed to a multicam pattern instead of ACU digital. However, I also noticed that I only see infantry wearing it on patrols. Is multicam only issued to deployed soldiers? If not, is it only issued to specific MOS? I have seen soldiers wearing multicam at the airport, and soldiers wearing ACU digital. Is it possible it's only issued to combat MOS?

1) They are both ACU's. The BDU was phased out in 2004.

2) The standard "grey" ACU is the Universal Camoflage Pattern (UCP). It is the primary working uniform for all soldiers. The "Multicam" ACU is the Objective Camouflage Pattern (OCP). It is only authorized for troops deployed to Afghanistan. It is issued to ALL soldiers deployed to Afghanistan, not just the infantry.

3) The Army is currently holding a uniform board to find a new set of uniforms to replace both the UCP and possibly the OCP patterns. There are 10 different patterns being tested (to include the OCP). The Army wants to go back to a two uniform system again however, with a desert uniform and a woodland uniform. The results of the boards selection won't be known for another few months however.

@ Eric. I know this won't surprise you, but you are wrong...again.

I adored dressed in the BDUs. I suppose that during many methods they had been extra long lasting and less difficult to keep then the present ACUs. You did not need to fear approximately the velcro giving out, you might wash them with any detergent, they usually simply perceived to rise up bigger to area stipulations. However, that uniform used to be for a time while deployments had been few and some distance among. Boots that require polish haven't any position with our present deployments. The desolate tract sand might tear via the leather-based of the ancient black boots. And starching your uniforms does not anything however make you remove darkness from like a Christmas tree while anyone is utilizing IR. The recommendations that got here with the BDUs honestly mentioned that you should not starch them, however a few General who hadn't visible battle in a long time made up our minds that crisp seams had been extra most important then battle effectiveness. The ACU is the Army's consciousness that position ought to be a precedence, despite the fact that it comes on the fee of aesthetics. However, I might say that the ACU might stand to transport again in the direction of the simplicity of the BDU.

Right now, Multicam is only being issued to Deployed units over in Afghanistan, due to the need for better camouflage. The Army will eventually adopt Multicam as the permanent camo, but as of right now, it is being issued to deployed units, as well as slowly being issued to other units in the Army.

Probably making enough for the other MOS's.
