Question:
What would you do to survive in a post-apocalyptic world?

Zombies, mass-destruction weapons, lack of water. Can you imagine what kind of evil could almost destroy this earth? And how you could live in it?

Well, survive I guess, with a 3 part plan...

1. Determine the kind of apocalypse

2. Survive for a few days

3. Become a zombie because I'm not the bad@$$ i thought i was just like 90% of the people answering this question

For my less than realistic answer...

I'd collect some awesome abandoned cars like some have said, if any are left, then i'd ransack grocery stores from whatever is left and live off that before i start collecting rainwater and setting up a neat little garden.

For a more realistic answer...

I'd get a truck as a mobile command post to store anything of use, like weapons and food and a cot. I'd find a nice tall building in the city to live in and set up a solar system and garden on the roof, clear out the city of

either zombies or mutants by using weapons in the manner they were made for.

Reason for tall building...

1. high up, gets a lot of sun for solar and garden and no worries of flooding

2. safe from those zombies, mutants, or other survivors

I have seen enough post-apocalyptic movies to know you should pick a place high up and away from the ground but also close to other buildings incase you get trapped up there by something chasing you.

Raiding stores of any kind is not a good idea because a large amount of other people are going to have the same idea and they probably wont be into asking nicely for the stuff.

The best idea would be to acquire the materials beforehand or wait until people looted the places and try to pick through whats left or chase down the looters and take their stuff if you have the equipment to help you do so.

Stay away from large cities as that's where most of the zombies or mutants or whatever will congregate.

Don't be a hero. No one will be around to stop a mugger anymore. They will take your stuff one way or another if your not already prepared to defend yourself against whatever weapons they got. And there will be not cops to arrest them for doing so.

Fresh stuff will go bad first so get stuff that have an insanely long expiration date and anything dried out or powdered that will last a crazy amount of time.

Most importantly make sure you know how to use guns before the apocalypse.

People who know how to load, repair, and fire guns will fare better than someone with a steak knife.

So, for it to really be an apocalypse - a bunch of people all over have to die. Probably at least half. If it were only as low as 1 in 4 that would be an unmitigated disaster and such, but probably that many people died in the civil war and things moved on. Certainly if you are into the realm of 60 - 70% that is legitimate end of days sort of apocalypse conditions.

So, the first trick is survive that. Odds are, that's mostly about luck, maybe about preparedness, but mostly luck. Whatever training you may have, whatever gear you may have it isn't going to stop a fast spreading slow acting airborne lethal virus. Or a nuclear strike or a massive natural disaster. So, that's really about luck.

Now, the next piece is about securing food, water, shelter and medicine in the short term. If 60% of the people are dead then probably there are fewer that you are going to have to fight with at the nearest grocery store, gas station or whatever if you've not already stocked up. You probably need some way of protecting yourself from people who figure they will secure those things by taking them from you. Most likely if enough people have been killed to make it an apocalypse there could be enough shelters that are vacated to support most of the survivors.

Zombies are a problem. For the most part if you aren't either a bio - chemical warfare expert the solution is firearms, lots of bullets, defensible positions and a low profile. Yep, hiding.

Finally, at some point survival is probably going to depend on finding other survivors and figuring out how to work together and join forces. Farming is a ton of manual labor which increases in yield geometrically to the labor provided without technology. (If you still have operating technology now it can increase exponentially). Plus, no - one knows how to do or fix everything so ultimately banding together makes sense - that's why people did it in the first place.

Past that? Figuring out how to make stuff and essentially restart a civilization is what it is going to take. Sooner or later we'll run out of everything and need to be able to make stuff again. However, if you survive that far I'll probably have learned enough to feel like I'm on the downhill side.

Try to hold on to my humanity first. As seen in most post apocalyptic movies that doesn't work so well. However in most real life scenarios this brings out the best (and worst) in people. Take a look at 9/11 (not apocalyptic but i'm sure that the people there thought the world was ending) how many heroes stepped up.

As an EMT I always see people at their worst. I believe everyone is capable of greatness and compassion. I'm not saying it wouldn't be hard to do, and yes I would kill to protect family and friends. But with out our humanity why bother surviving at all?

There s a lot of talk about "the end". But truly, the end of what? Of the world or the things in the world? We were made for a reason, and humans are part of that reason. Anything against that purpose is booted out.

Like a brand new home that s constructed then rented: if someone irresponsible neglects and mistreats the house, it s owner will not let it happen to the point of destruction. He evicts those causing the harm and renews the home.

"Just a little while longer, and the wicked will be no more; You will look at where they were, And they will not be there. But the meek will possess the earth, And they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace." Psalms 37:10, 11

So who is causing the harm in this planet, not zombies...forget vampires. What s really causing the ruin? If we do just the opposite of that then we survive "the end" and have a new start.

"And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:3,4

It s not the end of the world we want to survive, it s the survival of this system of things and to make it to the new system.

first of all i would need a ride.

I'd take a range rover or land cruiser so any things can fit not too big like a bus though.

Second is food. I'd go to supermarkets and literally fill everything of what I see and need is helpful. I'd start with a mall cause there's a pharmacy there and of course a big supermarket. I'd take medicines and all that kind of stuff. Then i'd head to the hunting area place where you get shotguns and guns and knives and i'd take guns and knives for defense and also armor. I'd also have some clothes with me. I'd find people or maybe a guy then we would run off to a small island where we live in the middle of the sea so we'd be isolated, we'd take a ship and rest there. Every one month we'd send two people to get supplies and store some for emergency. I'd take a doctor with me that's for sure to heal and help. We'll of course be checking the island for zombies. Next, we'd populate the island and that's about it!

8 STEPS. Assuming, I have survived the initial chaos of the said apocalyptic event; regardless if its zombies, large a$$ meteor, deadly plague, severe financial crisis, etc; and some people are still alive and some of the land are still fertile for agriculture.

Step1: Exodus. If residence/apartment is unsafe or if you don't have a bunker or equivalent. Get out of the city. Head to the country side in less populated areas or equivalent.

Step2: Containment. Find out if there's a solution or cure to the apocalyptic event. If unknown. You're screwed.

Step3: Survival Mode. Gather up necessary supplies. While looking for a suitable place to rebuild your life. Build your own weapon if none. Bow&arrow, spears, swords, and alike would be best since it doesn't need bullets that could run out. Initially when escaping yes, it might be helpful to use guns. Also, look for a reliable transport like a horse or bicycle or any form that doesn't need fuel. At this stage, it can either break you or make you stronger. Basing on most apocalyptic type movies, a lot of characters dies during this mode.

Step5: Rebuild. Assuming you survived step 4 and have found the perfect place to rebuild a community (and if you have other survivors with you). I prefer a school to rebuild since it has fences, facilities and enough space to grow food. Avoid hospitals, community centers, designated evacuation areas, urbanized areas: chances are diseases are of the higher concentration in those areas or worse zombies spawn more there.

Step6: Security. Defend your new home to the death. You're dead anyway if you fail. Boost defense. Buff up walls, make booby traps and alike.

Step7: Resources. Once shelter, food, and water are secured. Look for the most important resource of all -- people. The more people you can "trust", the better. Preferably people with different skills to pass down to new generations like doctors, nurses, teachers, mechanics, farmers, scientists, and alike. Reject admission to all celebrities or wallstreet-like hotshot, (in movies) because they are very vain and selfish and the reason why your community failed.

Step8: Procreate. Time to rebuild population. You may have to resort to incest. If the plague however caused everyone to be infertile -- you're again, screwed!

We would not see a viral apocalypse coming, because it will be accidentally man made out of good intention. By this I mean that there are medical researchers doing studies that are meant to help humanity, but also seems very dangerous. For example, not too long ago there are a bunch of scientists that wanted to study bacteria's ability to incorporate survival abilities of other species of bacteria into their own DNA code. Well, as you can see this study is pretty much let the scientists combine a whole bunch of dangerous bacteria to make a super bacteria. I think the idea was rejected, but then again, "secret researches" by pharmaceutical companies...

Next thing you'll know is Umbrella like company just made a zombie virus (joking), but seriously, bacteria and virus can mutate to something that our immune system can't fight and we will all die. The common cold can one day evolve and kill us. Back in the medieval time, people die from a cold more often then now. Heck we already have a potential apocalypse now. Just read up about Ebola.

Best way to survive in this post apocalypse is minimum human contact to minimize the risk of infection. BODY SUITS for everyone!

I've read, and now viewed, a lot of dystopia stories and I seriously do not want to survive. If I somehow did, I'd volunteer to not eat or drink so someone who has more of a drive to live could. I can't and don't want to imagine living without freedom, without knowing what it's like to feel not hungry or thirsty, to not worry about where my next meal will come from, to constantly worry about threats coming from every direction from everyone and everything. I wouldn't want to have to think about bringing a child of mine into that kind of world either, subjecting a little new being who should grow up innocent and hopeful but won't be able to, plus loving someone else gives you a huge weakness, a vulnerability. I'd rather sacrifice myself then go around killing other people just to barely subsist. But I'm old, have lived most of my life already, have known what real sweetness and beauty are. And I know when push comes to shove, it will be the old who are eliminated first because young people always believe they are the only ones with anything to contribute, that the old have had their chance (and we're all in this trouble because of you old folks), etc. It'll just be a matter of at which age level the line is drawn; anyone over that line will be eliminated, those under that line will continually have to prove their worthiness to live. It just is not how I would want to live.

If we continue with mass immigration to countries that actually produce things and also raise taxes and attack those that try to make the world better we'll see a post-apocalyptic world without zombies or any of these other ridiculous things. Voting for the democrats is a good way to find out how you'll do in a post-apocalyptic world

Well, I don't have above average survival preparation or special skills or an established garden, so I probably would NOT fare very well.

I'm chiming in to tell something cool about my friend's family. The patriarch has a tradition, which I think was started by HIS father or grandfather, that once every few years, he takes any grandchildren over a certain age out into the woods and teaches them "what they would need to know to survive." He shows them how to catch food, what plants are edible, how to make shelter and fire, stuff like that. I always felt this is really great. Even if never needed, think of the bonding experience. If needed, imagine how glad they will be for any preparation he gave them.

If the entire world were equally affected, I would stay put where I am and do my share to rebuild. After all, civilization is the best way to live, and if it's gone, well... a new one is required. Perhaps my views are quite European, but that's where I am. Europe 500 years ago was not so different from a post apocalyptic setting by today's standards - and look at it now. Yes, we had to stake a few vampires along the way; I guess zombies are just another menace to take in stride.

First off, most of the population is going to die/reanimate. Don't deny it if you are part of that half. After that, all I need to do is find a safe, isolated place where I could self-sustain myself for years, maybe a lifetime. Eventually, the zombies would decompose to the point of either true death or not being able to move, therefore the earth is "safe". I'd have posts set up with other survivors to annually check up in the decomposure, and I'd record how long it takes for the average zombie to deflate, for the lack of better words. When all is well enough, all the survivors would sweep the remaining zombies, the ones who can't move anymore, and the bodies, either into a fire pit or into the ocean. More likely the fire, because zombies can still survive underwater, seeing they dont need oxygen anymore. And now we repopulate. Rebuild. Vote new leaders. Start again. See? No fighting, at least not necessary fights.
2015-07-02 05:28:01 UTC
No toffee cake? Probably join them.

Because if there really was such a thing, it's unlikely a few hold outs would be able to last indefinitely. An apocalypse isn't a local disturbance. Hide on an island? Good luck with that pal.

1) Classic zombies are undead. The don't breathe and they're not afraid of saltwater.

2) Something so global and civilisation ending (how did it take the whole world by surprise?!) isn't likely to be stopped (or even held back indefinitely) by a short stretch of the most abundant liquid on the planet.

If I join 'em, maybe there's a chance I'd be one of those ultra-rares that doesn't have it's brain turned to mush. Zombie leader. Cool......

I live 10 minutes from the sea, so battle my way to the dock with my .22 rifle, and steal an emergency paddle boat off one of the moored boats, and row to an island that's 2 miles offshore, not much there, but there is a pub, so enough drink to last for a while, it's known for its wildlife I'd take my two fishing rods and live off the fish (maybe also shooting birds with the rifle), collect rainwater or even drink fish/bird blood when supplies run low, until things settle down then go back to the mainland after a couple months to see the zombies or whatever are done. Then I'd get to the supermarkets and stock up on tins and a bodybuilding store for protein powder and then move out to the countryside in the hopes of finding a farm with a river or well for water and hopefully some cows would be okay to breed and get a continuous supply of meat and milk. Hopefully there would be survivors on the way so we could repopulate the world, and I'd pass the time by studying the Bible. Essentials: fire stick, rifle, ammo, fishing rods & tackle, knife, bible, and maybe buckets to collect rain.

The most important thing is to SEE IT COMING.

You should have a set of criteria already set up in your mind to signal you that a PRE-apocalyptic* condition has developed.

Once the red flags have gone off, the next thing is you should have a pre-planned set of actions to take. In my case, that means filling up every water container I have (and I have several large ones just in case). Once that's done, it's time to get down to the supermarket and buy as much as I can bring back. Since I already have a large stock of food preps (mostly proteins and carbs), my emphasis would be on vitamins, fluids, and perishables. I would repeat this several times until the stores were either empty or street conditions had become too dangerous to risk.

After that, I would lay low and exercise strict noise discipline. After the first 72 hours, I would make a point of only eating dry food and maintain that practice for several weeks until most of the people had died off. The reason is that starving animals (including people) develop a very acute sense of smell and food odors would bring them right to me. Another reason is to delay the necessity of going out for water for as long as possible

Assuming I survived the first few weeks, I would continue gathering survival supplies (with an eye towards Winter) and, at the same time, make contact with other survivors who seemed sane and non-life-threatening.

*Yahoo Answers Team: The logical follow-up question to this is, "How would you determine that apocalypse was about to happen?"

Just eat an ice cream that's all, because Gods love me. He will take good care of me.

When the Universe was made by God there is a sign that I have seen that no one knows that exist. And that is the only key to salvation.

Some will tell stories like this.

I will take one of NASA space ships and go to space station carrying a lot of food and supplies that can support me and my family for a long long time and monitor the Earth if it will evolve to be normal again. If not, I will go out and find those Aliens that are hiding just around our milky way and ask help.( They use a cloning mirror device so it will look invincible even they are there. They use a camera in front and monitors at the back. I just figure it out a long time ago.) If they do not help me I will try to take control of their ship and find where they belong to.( Their planet) And stay there for a while, until the atmosphere of the Earth will be normal again.

In Return of the Living Dead, there was a gorgeous naked female zombie running around.

So what I'd do is hang out. Find gorgeous zombies with their limbs still intact. And take their clothes off. First of course I'd ask their permission, but if they gave me that blank zombie stare, I'd take it as a yes.

Of course I'd have a camera with me.

Good times. Good times.

That and I'd go find a long strip where zombies weren't hanging out and go get a ferrari and go balls out.

Shopping. hell yeah. I'd go to the mall. Get some new clothes.

I'd also get a yacht. A huge one. And train zombies to act like crew members. The tough part is getting them not to eat eachother. So I'd teach them about fish and stuff.

I'd create a program to automate all the ship's functions using an IPad. So I could stand on the deck and steer the ship to any place I wanted. Maybe Hong Kong. Maybe Thailand and get a group of stripper zombies to join.

Then I'd go sky diving naked. I'm a pilot. and have always wanted to jump out of a plane I was flying. naked would make it a real thrill.

I'd teach zombies to farm too.

Then I'd go get NSA technology. Erase my memories of having to fight an apocalypse and since the zombies would all be domesticated by then. And the world was rebuilt precisely as it was prior to the zombie apocalypse. The world would appear just like it was before and I would probably question whether I was actually ever in a zombie apocalypse.

And since domesticated zombies act so similarly to humans. I'd probably not ever be able to tell the difference. had it not been for all the crazy zombie 'fiction' I'd probably never have known.

The time to plan is now. Generally speaking, only the people who have a stash of food, gear, and weapons will survive. All of that stuff will need to be stashed in a wooded area, away from towns and cities. This area will become your living room for five to ten years, so it must be isolated, where no one else can discover it.

There are food stuffs that will last for up to twenty years. These food stuffs can be purchased at certain food distributors. In fact, there are some food stuffs at Wal-Mart and Costco that can last for up to eight years. Without the food and the gear to make it, a person will almost definitely die within three or four months. Most houses have a food supply of 4 to 6 weeks. After that there would be nothing.

Fishing gear has also proved to be very effective to helping people survive after wars and the like. A fishing pole on a river or lake will most likely catch 10 or so fish a day, enough for two or three people to live on. If a person knows what edibles to eat, they can usually find mushrooms, berries, tree bark, edible grasses, and edible flowers to eat. Between the fish and the edibles the person will actually eat more healthily than what they buy at the store. Moreover, if they have read any books about building shelters, they can build a pretty nice shelter out of the nearby woods.

In my opinion, a person either needs a good food stock up in the woods, or a fishing pole near a river or lake with a lot of fish if that person wants to survive. A lot of people think they can just hunt their way out of the Apocolypse. That may be true if you have a rifle and plenty of ammunition. But if not, you will starve. A lot of people think they can just make a spear an go spear hunting. This almost never works. Even experienced hunters have tried spear hunting and have said that it is very difficult.

Those who rush to the cities looking for a government hand out will likely be killed. I'd stay as far away from the cities as possible. Democracy and a Bill Of Rights will be non-existent. Murderous bands will scavenge the city looking for any remaining food. These city folks know nothing about the woods or the mountains and would rather die in the city than take a chance out in the wilderness.

In a nutshell, within three years, the 300 million who now live in the USA will be decreased to roughly 10 million.

My exact actions would vary depending on the cause of the destruction.

But here are some steps for each scenario:

1. Zombies

- Attain any weapon available (gun, knife, baseball bat, etc.)

- Find refuge and then establish a temporary "safehouse"

- Find another person (preferably a minimum of 4 others) who can fight

- Loot grocery stores and convenience shops for food/water/toilet paper.

We would wait here and defend ourselves and work to build a compact community; all members would have a duty to maintain the "safehouse."

2. Mass-destruction

- Go to the nearest library and hide in the back...nobody will come there under those circumstances.

3. Lack of water

- I would use a system to make sure I always have water:

- Hide my water stash in a safe place, yet still protected by arms.

- Go out for water searches everyday and increase the stash.

- In addition, I would wear few layers and reduce exercise as much as possible to avoid thirst.

- If that system doesn't work--or if I get bored of it--I would take my stash travel to a fresh water lake and live there until I drink the lake dry.

Those were some survival tactics for all the situations. I advise you don't follow these as they have not been tested. So really it was pointless.

For those of you who don't relate to my tactics above, here is an alternative survival guide:

ALTERNATE

1. Zombies

- get bit (by a zombie): "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em"

2. Mass-destruction

- hide.

- or do nothing.

3. Lack of water

- don't drink salt-water.

- travel north, or south, and melt ice.

Okay the ALTERNATE is not very promising.

Your question: "Yahoo Answers Team... What would you do to survive in a post-apocalyptic world? Zombies, mass-destruction weapons, lack of water. Can you imagine what kind of evil could almost destroy this earth? And how you could live in it?"

There is a real world. In the real world if the Earth were "almost destroyed" so would be the life on it be almost destroyed. Beyond a certain point, there would not be enough resources.

There are other constraints one can see in the demise of certain species, including a below-reproductive population, i.e., more die than which meet and successfully reproduce.

The rest of your question is advertising for vidiots.

The sort of scenarios presented in video infotainment are completely unrealistic, typically occult.

Zombies: There is no such thing.

Mass-destruction weapons: There are, and you should address that realistically. The most obvious are nuclear devices, following that comes biological warfare.

Lack of water: All life dies, end of story.

What kind of evil could almost destroy this earth?

To that question I refer you to statements attributed to a philosopher who died about 2500 years ago:

"All there is of evil originates in mind."

"The three roots of evil are greed, hatred, and delusion."

You are promoting the latter, delusional thinking.

The way to deal with those threats of weapons of mass destruction cannot be discerned from video infotainment, which more often than not proposes that the good shall triumph over evil be being meaner and more destructive sooner, and that the whole experience will occur with heroics by professional actors and emotional thrills will be enjoyed by all.

But it only distracts people from the reality of mass human behavior: more or less constant conflict.

Take a look at what is happening in the Middle East. That is a story that goes back to around 630 AD and cannot get any better, only worse, especially if the players come across miniature nukes and biological weapons.

Better than asking how you can survive magical, unrealistic scenarios from video infotainment, you would do well to educate yourself and attempt to devise rational solutions to the problems of the real world where you live. That is what will kill you, if anything, not fantasy apocalypse videos.

To me Doom Preppers are a strange kettle of fish. They don't seem to be able to cope with conditions as they see them now and are so terrified they devote their lives to the end of civilization. I have no idea how they think they can survive in a real post-apocalyptic world which is truly terrifying. I myself would get promptly killed. I want to live not survive, if you get my drift. If not watch Survivor which is only half true. I get a kick out of the people on it that go, this sux! What did they think, that they get put up at the Ritz at night or something.
2015-07-03 10:10:06 UTC
I would bring weapons with me at all times when scavenging for supplies. I would use a rooftop as a safe place, and I could get a nice view of the city. I would sleep in a tent on the rooftop when it rains. I don't know about islands. The military might take control of an island and not let survivors in who are infected and not let survivors out of the island if they are about to leave. The military could put a big fence around the whole island.

I would avoid using a gun frequently. It saves ammo. Guns are noisy and draw attention. I would only use a gun when I have to, like if there's so many zombies. Melee weapons I would use are a stick, ax, and blade. I would use stealth. If I see one zombie, I can sneak past it quietly rather than wasting time and energy killing it.

Stealth is your friend.

10% would be dead the first week even without killing each other. Elderly, invalids, handicapped, small children and infants would go first. Everyone in a hospital or assisted living is pretty much is a goner the first week. Woman and children without protector would be next, most don't even own any guns or have physical strength to walk great distances. Transportation would be very limited like all the roads closed so maybe a motorcycle or canoe but no cars, trucks, buses, train or boats even the rivers would be jammed when everyone with a boat wants to hit the water.

Men and woman with guns and ammo will form groups for self defense and food gathering. If I am home I will try to notice them coming and evade them letting them take all my food and water.

I would die in the second round after people started to organize since I have no special skills even if I make it to the river with fishing gear someone would take it. I only have a shot gun and two shells for self defense, not enough and only food and water for a day or two. The stores will be entirely empty after the first 10 minutes.

1. Ransacking grocery stores? Forget about it, the shelves are bare already.

2. Get a cool survival truck with armor plating? Not happening. There will be no supply lines of fossil fuels, batteries will be looted, and the roads will be dangerous and not maintained.

3. Stock up on guns and ammo? Well, as much as possible, but bullets will be hard to come by eventually. So this is only a temporary item that may be of use.

Ultimately people need communities to survive. We can live on our own in a wilderness survival type situation for very short times. Assuming life as we know it ceases to exist, eg, there are no food stores, no currency, no law enforcement, no public utilities, it means life is VERY unglamorous. Congrats, we become a 3rd world country surviving together as best we can, but accepting death and disease at a high rate.

Living in a dust-bowl pit of filth and disease is not as cool as Hollywood makes it out to be, you bunch of spoiled rotten narcissists!

first off no such thing as zombies . but I will assume my family are not the only humans still alive . those that have none will try to take from us . that would be my biggest fear or concern .we would move back to my grandfathers farm . 280 acres . it would be hard to feed all of them at first . but given enough time we would be able to grow what we needed in one season . as time goes by things would get better with food . we have enough shelter to house maybe 75 people at first . plenty of trees to make our own lumber for more housing . if it was an atomic war it is possible the soil will not grow food . in that case we will all die some sooner than later . it is 122 miles from Washington d c . so we have the possibility the soil is still good for crops . those mountains are filled with springs , we have been getting water from them since gramps bought the place since 1902 and i'll bet a long time before that .. even during the driest season it kept the lake full . if the farm is ok I will assume the other farms in the area are ok too . in that case we would be able to trade with them to get pigs , chickens and cows . if we couldn't find horses to plow and cultivate the fields we could convert the tractor to run off of gasified wood . if we needed electricity we could find solar panels for what ever we needed . the first place I would go is a golf course and take the batteries from the golf carts and all the charging equipment .. I don't see a problem if the soil is not radioactive . the only problem would be the other humans in the first year or 2 . after that I think those wanderers would die off or settle down to where they can live

I store food. Mainly hemp seeds since a person can survive off of just those for years, but I've got plenty of other non-perishables too. Then I've got a couple water filtration systems, all the camping gear I might need, and a machete for "just in case".

The first thing I would do is hit up my local botany store, and retrieve seeds for planting food.

If it were chemical or nuclear weapons I'd have to make my way to Canada to get some non-sterilized hemp seeds (the only ones they sell here in America are sterilized by law). Hemp can clean the soil, after the weapons of mass destruction sully it, they can make the ground suitable for planting food again. Plus I can just eat them (in the case of zombie attack), I'd prefer not to have to transport, raise, and slaughter animals to survive.

Where I'd go? To the pacific northwest if we get bombed to hell (nice weather, smart people capable of dealing with catastrophe are abundant out there).

For zombies, I'd prefer an island. Would settle for a prison like they did on The Walking Dead if I had to :p

The only likely scenario which would result in a mass correction to America would be an EMP device, with a possibility of CME. The possibilities of this happening are substantial, perhaps less than 50% but more than 10%. Everyone in the country should read "One Second After" which was recommended reading to Congress.

I would likely survive about 30 to 60 days on the resources I have (for instance I can purify about 1000 gallons of putrid pool water) but I am too old to be running around the boondocks and eating bark.

First simple step is to determine the type of apocalypse. Natural or one-off disasters are not preventable but are not ongoing, so the main concerns for survival are shelter, and safe, possibly sustainable food and water.

Zombie/viral apocalypses are ongoing, so in order to survive it's vital to understand how they spread. If the disease is airborne, then find/make protective masks. If it is only spread by contact/biting from the infected then wear thick clothes which cannot be penetrated by teeth.

Once you have determined the source of mass death, and done your best to prevent or prolong this, you can concentrate on basic survival, this includes food and water and all the afore mentioned survival necessities.

The interesting part of this type of apocalypse would be morality. It is safe to assume that taking things from shops is no longer immoral, so stocking up on clothes, food and even basic weapons for protection is a good idea.

But, people will be the biggest danger. People who now have nothing to lose are not trustworthy. Anyone who's played dayz will know that zombies are easy to avoid, people will kill people to survive. Everyone will be carrying food, water and valuable materials, so everyone is a target.

I live very close to Chicago and Joliet, a rough spot to be in but if I can get a car, drive down to the sports wear and get some weapons Id make it for awhile. Pluss theres bound to be scattered vending machines and a cash register. Id have to figure out how to open it without setting off the alarm, but thats only if I cant get the back of the machines open, then I set up shop up on the roof since zombies HOPEFULLY cant climb. If they can then Id have to barb wire it up and have a well guarded fire escape.

Next step is getting a bunch of other trustworthy survivors to build up with, then hit the hospital down the street with a car or two then taking what we can get and heading home. Also, our school has a bunch of prop rifles, real rifles and fencing swords for ROTC, at least I think. Thats in the back of the band room, get those and maybe grab some books and we'd be pretty much set.

Oh and get a dog, ye boi, a dog.

I am already good at hunting for my own food and can survive the harshest coldest weather on the planet done it all my life, so I would go to a very cold place (-60 below 0 F or colder) with low population with lots of Big Game animals to hunt and set up a base of operations there. I would let very few people in and no big city people who some how got out of the big cities which would be the first people to go as they have no survival skills. Only people who could be VERY useful would be able to join(great hunters, top military fighters, survivalists, etc). If you cant pull your weight you are out don't care who you are that's the way it is

Edit: Already got lots of guns and ammo so no worry to look for any of that. Already got things to trade once money is worthless etc etc

people in here are talking about staying in the city and looting and setting themselves up, but those cities are the first to go, Big Cities will be destroyed totally in a day or two, maybe even quicker. You stay in the city you are screwed. You better be able to hunt and scavenge and survive harsh conditions or you are screwed

1: Find a group of other human survivors. Safety in numbers. At least one other woman there is a plus.

2: Blow the alpha male of the group. Keep exchanging sexual favours until he's somewhat dependent on me for it. This ensures a place to sleep and at least a small portion of food rations.

3: If possible settle the camp up high. Zombies have no muscles or a good sense of balance. They'll tumble down.

4: Surround the current camp in as much human feces and rotting garbage as possible to hide the smell of our human meat

5: If possible, create a moat of water. Zombies wouldn't have the strength to swim against any current and would probably fall apart with the force of the water.

6: Have watchmen or a baiting area for stray zombies.

7: Wait it out. Once dead, the body will decompose fast enough that zombies won't be able to do anything shortly.

Living in a remote area is a bad idea. A gang of about 40 cutthroats could overtake your bunker, if not by a frontal attack, by siege.

I have a degree in International Relations, and the first thing we were taught was that clans and city states survived because those are the most natural survival methods. City governments would simply become autonomous for a few decades. Mayor (elected), Police Department, Fire Department, Water Department, roads and even recreation department, and armed guards at the entrances - backed up by a small military force. (See the movie "Postman")

So get with your family members and move to a small city/town and help organize the government there.

Proof: A gang of about 40 cutthroats could not overtake or lay an effective siege on a city. Only a city state could overtake another city state ------ That would not be advisable for either city state -- so international relations would soon become important -- just like in the Bible days -- each city state would have emissaries to neighbor cities -- to iron out any rough edges and to establish trade.

I live in Minnesota, so there is an abundance of fresh water here. I would grab supplies from a local store, including as many weapons as possible. That includes guns if possible, but that isn't a realistic weapon source long term. I would rather have bow/arrow and a sword along with some daggers.

As far as food goes, I would either head north towards Canada. It is more desolate there, and less likely to be inhabited by zombies. Then I would just hunt and fish. Plenty of lakes here. I would also try and collect seeds to grow crops. To be honest, it doesn't sound like a bad life. Haha

As far as other people go, I would only bring my friends and girlfriend. I trust them. I would avoid everyone else.

So what s most likely to stress the population in the near future(and is already stressing the populations of some locations) is a lack of clean water. There s really no good battle plan, though, as it s essential to survival, and it will become harder to obtain. What I would probably do is start only bathing in rivers, and I would get a few of those water-filter bottles(and I d get them right away, as they d probably get expensive real fast) and find the cleanest river/lake I could, and collect from it daily. I d have a secret place to store water. If shelters were handing out fresh water or something like that, I d take advantage. If things got really bad for whatever reason, I d get a wood stove and collect a lot of wood so that I could boil water. I d also get some weapons to defend my water stash.

I require technology-based medical solutions in order to survive in this pre-apocalyptic world. I need glasses to see, electricity to power medical devices, and pills every once in a while. I can't even go camping, I would certainly not survive for more than a few days in a post-apocalyptic hellscape.

The only way to survive is in a remote place, far away from cities and other densely-populated areas and close to a steady source of fresh water. The ideal location would be a mountain cabin with a stream nearby, a wood-burning stove, and a pantry stocked with canned goods and dried beans and rice.

Isolation can protect people from contagious, infectious diseases or help them hide from military coups and terrorists. In the aftermath of any disaster, other survivors can be the most dangerous threat; they'll take anything they can find, and they won't ask politely. Making oneself scarce reduces the chances of being found by survivors who have lost all sense of humanity.

It would be pointless to go "shopping" for food. Grocery stores stock their shelves with enough for a few days of normal customer purchases. When there's a forecast for a blizzard, hurricane, or other weather event, those shelves are nearly empty within about 3 hours. If an apocalypse were to happen, there'd be panicked looting in those stores, with people literally beating and killing each other for boxes of crackers.

We already have several serious apocalypse scenarios.

1. Nuclear war.

2. Global warming

3. Mass extinctions happening right now.

If big corporations don't stop destroying the forests and over-fishing the seas, we will lose the animals and plants we need to survive.

The question is a bit stupid because by definition, everyone will die in an apocalypse, except for those that god chooses. What kind of god would create a world which he would later destroy presumably for his own amusement ? I think the right answer is that we should work to prevent the apocalypse rather than hope to survive it.

A really good primer is Lucifer's Hammer by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle - http://www.amazon.com/Lucifers-Hammer-Larry-Niven/dp/0449208133

A pretty good --REAL-- science fiction book and not that bubble gum skifi stuff with ridiculous monster under the bed zombies nonsense.

The book is a down to earth - what does a real person do in that kind of emergency situation type story with simple insights into what is significant and what is definitely NOT. Often it is the understanding of what is NOT important that matters. What IS important will be glaringly obvious.

Food, shelter and sex are the primary things that drive and motivate every animal (including the human ape) when living in survival mode. Sex is addressed as less of a motivation and more of addressing the future needs of the community in terms of labor and safety. In any animal species it is the very young and the elderly that are always targeted. The safety of a community is its ability to ensure a future for the community and the protection of its history to ensure lessons learned are not lost. If you want to learn what to do in a devastated world - read the book. Also, it would not hurt if you took the time to read -The Rights of Man- and - Common Sense- while you are in the reading mode and out of the 1st person shooter Play-X-Wii-box mode of using a brain. It is better to avert the apocalypse than to pave the way to it.

How would I survive in a post-apocalyptic world? Well, lots of people would be dead for sure when there are zombies. This is the best idea. Follow these steps.

1. Get a ship.

2. Get fast shooting guns.

This way it will take zombies to swim across the sea and we have time to shoot them all.

Well I'd be the smart guy in all this.

In a zombie apocalypse

I'd find out what caused the zombie infection root it to its source etc.

From a realistic standpoint then the most plausible explanation for a zombie breakout would be a cross between Rabies and Mad cow disease then crossed into the general population(the dead won't rise but you will be eaten)

Then I would study the disease, what is it, bacteria fungus etc. And would test what the best way to neutralize it would be from there.

In the meantime if I wanted to have fun and be a badass I would also figure out how to create cross species genetics to allow myself to have the DNA of an army ant or something and gain super strength then laugh as I chuck cars at zombies, I could then keep my own secret hidden zombie army and give them strength and then ransom the world for money cause I'm evil mwahah

Some weapons would be necessary. I'm going to assume a non-magical collapse so we won't worry about zombies or anything like that. Something more believable, like an EMP burst that killed electronics.

I have a tin with solar charger, extra batteries and GMRS radios sealed inside it. The tin is an extremely effective Faraday cage, and will completely protect anything against EMP shock. So I would have communications in the aftermath. Not long distance like a cell phone, but a few miles - good for maintaining contact during scouting parties.

The weapons are only intended for use at great need. We're still Americans, and other people we meet are still Americans - we all have rights. As long as everyone plays nice, the weapons aren't needed.

I have a garden and a pantry. That would address most of my food needs. I live close to a river in an area that receives over 40" of rain every year, so water wouldn't be a big problem either.

I have an ancient tractor that relies on a magneto and points for ignition. It will function in a post-shock world with no difficulty, and it starts with a crank. It will run well on gasoline and once it's warm can run on kerosene or alcohol. So if necessary I have the capacity to move people and materials, albeit a bit slowly.

With my various skills I would probably become a pretty valuable individual, as I am good at plumbing, carpentry, woodworking, masonry and assorted other hands-on trades. I'm not especially respected as a worker in the modern age, but in the absence of computers and office work, demand for my abilities goes way, way up.

[edit]

One nice thing is that I live a decent distance away from a modest city. Large cities like New York and Chicago will burn out very, very quickly in an EMP strike, as cars stop working and more people than the land can support are suddenly unable to spread out away from each other. Death rates in cities will be very, very high very early. People will eat out the grocery stores almost instantly, and draw down the water reservoirs not long after that. Then they will die, first in food and water riots, then due to dehydration and starvation, and what few survive after that will succumb to diseases and contamination from the dead.

My small town is comfortably removed by what is only a half-hour's fast drive from a city, but a couple of days' walk. People fleeing the city will be almost exclusively on foot (electronic fuel injection doesn't work after an EMP) and thus be traveling very light, possibly having cast off their weapons early as too heavy, cumbersome or taken away from them by stronger bands of roamers. These people will likely be weak and/or sick, and if they prove a threat will probably be easily dealt with.

I would prefer to not deal with them. If necessary they will be engaged at a distance from my home and either diverted or otherwise discouraged from going where they are not wanted. If we have the means to provide shelter and food that will be best, as it will incline them favorably to us later on.

Go to a remote USA Territory, such as Wake Island, which has only around 100 people, who are most likely safe. If not, I have to survive in the suburbs. I'd keep diamonds and nail polish remover as easy weapons, then I'd find an axe, a baseball bat, and some long metal nails. This would give me two good weapons: an axe and a spiked baseball bat. The diamond would work for cutting, and the nail polish remover for fire. I have more details but I'm keeping it simple.

To those who are reading this, the only certain and most probable cause of an apocalyptic event is Pole shifting. The poles have shifted before. Siberia was once a tropical place where mammoths graze and roam around. The current indications of this are magnetic poles (north and south) has moved and is continuing to move (as I write this) and preparing to flip, it cause change in weather (air pattern and ocean water current are affected), magnetic field of Earth is weakening due to this movement of poles and is slowing down on its rotation preparing for the flip. As the Earth slows down, weakening its magnetic field, sun's radiation has great impact on the Earth (Heat waves, drought and wild fires) with that, water from the ocean's evaporates faster at greater amount and then we have super typhoons, super hurricane, super cyclones, blizzards and hails. We can also contribute this shifting of poles to (as) cause for earthquakes from various places where once earthquake was rare and to some no record before. Also huge sink holes all over the world. Shifting of poles can also or will also trigger great massive earthquakes all over the world and might cause the wakening and eventually eruption of the Yellow stone super volcano. Also flash floods as gigantic tsunamis will hit the land.

There's scientific and biblical studies and revelation about this. The Elites knows about this that's why they have prepared. Massive underground cities, underground vegetation, doomsday seed vault in Norway (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJS9VgyjXUA) , more advance secret technology and etc. Their plan is to limit the population of the Earth to just 500 million for better and easier to control. Everybody will be chipped, tagged or marked.

If am still alive after all that world catastrophes and I'm in the city, (which I think the most probable place I will be) when that happen, 99.99% I'm dead so there's no point of telling. The .01% will soon reach 0 due to injuries, blood loss, infection, lack of food and clean water, in a very short time. However if that happen when I'm in high place and already thriving there (tropical mountain, hill or plateau) and in good health, chances are first, I don't have any idea that it is already happening worldwide, well I can only see on my immediate surroundings and the most probable thought will be that it is just locally (within my vicinity). Not until I go further down to the city a day or week after. Then I will know that most people are dead or the city is already a desolate place. On the other hand, if I did not go to the city after the event and just mind my own business there, thriving, for let's say 1, 5, 10 years or more, then I don't have any idea that most people are already dead. If and when I finally decided to go to the city 10 years after the event, I might find the city already like a jungle. I will probably wander around the city, checking and take things that are useful (probably I'll stay for a day or two) then go back home.

I would organize a group and settle by a lake in the middle of the country. We would plant farms and there would be many farmers. I would send people to gun shops and take a bunch of guns and bullets. If there was a military base near by we would break into the base and take vehicles and we would fill the gas cars with gas. As The population grows we would leave the farmers to farm and set up a government with a military and the general population in the military base. Recruiters will go around the country looking for survivors to come to our little group. As the population grows All the non farmers and non government/military will go to the nearest big city. If there are airplanes on the base we will send them to other parts of the world to find international survivors. The reason we don't do this at first is because we can even risk 5 people. Once our population is bigger we will set up wind mills and hook up cables to a nearby dam. We will start to use the recourses around us to build makeshift weapons and farming tools. As our now proclaimed country gets bigger we will start looking at democracy and building an economic system. This will promote mining and will lead to a bigger and less worrisome society. As we get bigger we will set up colony's in other parts of North America. Farming will start to become industrialized. More food to our country. We will continue our colonies until we have the entire western hemisphere. We will throw our old government out and have the most important people of the country to create a new one that can govern a lot of people over a lot of land that the people like but is able to take land from rebellions. I will leave that up to them. We will grow overtime across the world and that's when we will realize this apocalypse was meant by something greater it was a refresh for humanity. To become a united world. ( as we think that we are wiped out by a alien race, JK) We will start where we left off but better. We don't have to worry about wiping each other out and focus on our main goals...colonizing the planets.

You need three things for survival. Water, food, and shelter. It doesn't matter what calamity befalls the world without any one of those 3 items one is doomed. My survival is dependent on preparedness for immediate, short and long term needs. As an outdoorsman I have my ten essentials always prepped and ready to go. This gets me to my short term resources where I can evaluate the long term situation. No one can be prepared and survive an extinction level event but local disasters are completely planned for. Under that understanding I have an rv set to go with provisions for a month and a plan to get outta dodge to where family is away from my location.

A post apocalypic world will be a paradise according to the Bible. No zombies, lots of fresh water. Everything the survivors need.

Armageddon is God's war, not something caused by man.

(Revelation 16:14) They are, in fact, expressions inspired by demons and they perform signs, and they go out to the kings of the entire inhabited earth, to gather them together to the war of the great day of God the Almighty.

(Revelation 16:16) And they gathered them together to the place that is called in Hebrew Armageddon.

What one has to do now to be a survivor is to learn the truth about God, what his will is for mankind, and then do it.

Nobody has to die in the war of Armageddon. To die will be a choice.

(1 Timothy 2:3, 4) This is fine and acceptable in the sight of our Savior, God, whose will is that all sorts of people should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth.

(John 17:3) This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.

(Psalm 37:9-11) For evil men will be done away with, But those hoping in Jehovah will possess the earth. 10 Just a little while longer, and the wicked will be no more; You will look at where they were, And they will not be there. 11 But the meek will possess the earth, And they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.

(Psalm 37:29) The righteous will possess the earth, And they will live forever on it.

Honestly, there's a lot of problems with your typical zombie-apocalypse movie. I've seen signs these things are being reconsidered, but why would zombies just walk? Wouldn't it be easy to run and make the spread much more potent? Also, I suppose animals might not be easy carriers, but surely closely related animals should frequently in general be likely to be infected? Dogs. So since dogs are faster than us, shouldn't we be in much more danger from them? Plus, I know The Walking Dead focuses much more on interpersonal dynamics than the mechanics of the zombie apocalypse, which is but shouldn't cuts and scratches be incredibly likely to get you infected in short order as soon as you get a zombie's blood splash? So the first line would be to put down any pets and move to a place devoid of closely related animals. I would think no mammals would do the trick. You can't permanently stop bird incursions. The next item is delineating a large and uncrossable circular barrier. That's the short term. You would think the correct type of island, such as the Galapagos or Hawaii, both of which have no large mammal populations, would suffice, but it's been hinted that perhaps zombies can go underwater. This is a little far-fetched, how would they get oxygen. But oxygen is present in water, as a gas, though technically it's also present in HtwoO molecules. So very far out there viruses might be able to overcome these barriers by constructing large very thin slabs of flesh which are lung tissue with arteries and veins on the inside, hanging out from one's body.

1. escape ur house as fast as u can with all the possible supplies u can grab (depending on ur home location)

1.2. make sure u dont grab any attention from zombies if u did try all ur best to kill it

2. get to the safest place that can be available

3. wait 1 day till everything goes little clam or clear

4. go check if anyone was alive (dont say bandits , it didnt started yet)

5. secure anyone u find and team up with him

6. go scavenge for ration supplies (water , canned food , or any healthy last long food)

7. make sure u grab a melee weapon than a gun

8. after u got all the food u need go look for protection (guns , secured shelter)

9. after u find a good house u need to look before u leap at the area around (city , town , village or farm) choosing the location will help u survive but the most safest the most place away from the nearest supplies

10. after u have chosen the location secure the house quietly

10.1 make sure u know where to hit the zombies for instant death like their heads !

11. execute any type of danger exist there and then set to rest for minutes

12. now after you've made it to a good shelter time to set some barricades , watchtower , wire fence

13. after u made defense make sure u make an infirmary

14. after u finished all of this its up to you what to do , but first of all get a radio communications to communicate with the government or the military

15. keep trying until u get a signal , then follow the military instructions

16. get a flashlight or something to signal the military searching to let them know u are there

17. hold as long as u can (always fix protection and look for supplies) until the military arrives

18. your safe and u survived !

GOOD LUCK !

Get a few cars and stuff mainly a van or lorry really, get as much food as i can and water and just completely pack the cars full, and get cups and all the stuff you'd need. Then id go to a farm and get all the farm animals i can to eat and whilst im at it id save as many pets as i could, i wouldnt be able to just leave them.

Make sure i have medical supplies, literally raid everywhere i can and get as much as i can.

If i havent already, id go find guns, bullets and SWORD, however i would not survive alone i would be with as many people as possible on this journey.

Then we'd go find the safest place seen in the world to be fair, but if we wouldnt be able to get there id just go to a secure place like a prison, (yes most of this is off the walking dead)

And just travel everyday finding more and more survivors.

I would do nothing at all.

Who would want to survive in a post-apocalyptic world?

As for your fantasy world which includes non existent

zombies, you could spare a thought for reality.

If you open your eyes, you will see enough madness

already exists with ISIS and other fanatics/terrorists

or do you live in a purely fantasy world?

I would improvise to the conditions caused the post-apocalyptic world. First and most important, I would prepare by storing as much needed supplies before whatever apocalypse occurs. It is important to set plans for shelter, defenses, and arrange a defensible location for shelter.

Unless governments or sick scientists create them (CHECK OUT my book: 'Dead Things'), Zombies don't exist and won't be a factor. Yet, people becoming cannibals is a strong probability, which is almost the same thing. Starving animals and people will be most likely the greatest threats. Whatever team we form will have to fend them off.

Hopefully, order will be restored and civilization will flourish again.

How to survive in a post apocalyptic world.

The world, which is not the planet but Human society, will end the same way it has always ended in the past. Egypt, MesoAmerica, Africa, even as lately as Rome.

1. Overpopulate to the limits of sustainable agriculture.

2. A normal ordinary drought goes on longer than normal and creates-

3. Famine. Accompanied by pestilence and disease.

The actual end is always marked by complete infrastructure breakdown, due to lack of qualified personnel. The three basics being, food, water, police protection.

I would gather the people, and supplies, to create a new tribe of agrarian farmers. Which, coincidentally, is the way ALL civilizations are started. But, most importantly, I would gather all the knowledge as possible. Such as from libraries in hard copy. That way we could learn to do anything without so much trial and error. Plus I would teach the people not to succumb to superstitions like religions. Which always gain power in situations like that.

Well, twice in the last 6 months I asked the question "Do you own a gas mask?" and I was attacked like I was some kind of psychopath, but, if there was ever an emergency where chemical weapons were used, that would be one of the things that would be a must, and if people aren't even going to take that serious, how do you expect them to survive a chemical holocaust of sorts? This younger generation is a joke if you ask me.

Ideally, the safest locale would reminiscent of Alcatraz. Large fortress on a secluded island. You'd be safe from zombies (they still can't swim, right?) and unfriendly humans. It wouldn't be an easy task but eventually food could be grown and it could be built into a livable colony. Trips could be made off the island by boat and eventually with more supplies gathered, fewer trips would be necessary and you'd have a sustainable living space for quite some time.

Most importantly, if there is no electricity and wont be for a while, get out of the city. Stay away from large population areas. Without electricity they quickly become cesspools filled with human waste. Go camping. Depending on your level of preparedness you can take food and water with you or, if your skills permit, live off the land. In a complete societal collapse you will have to become a farmer of some kind in order to ultimately survive.

Post apocalyptic to me personally actually means what happens after the Apocalypse described in the Book of Revelation. After Jesus comes back he will establish his Kingdom and reign on the earth as the King of Kings and this will lead into eternity or the New Heavens and New Earth. So I do not have anything to fear after the apocalypse takes place. I know this was not exactly what you were asking about but I felt this was in some way related.

Well, food, water and shelter will be the first things that have to be arranged for. Ransacking grocery store will do for food and water, and shelter will be probably safer in a high building, but there is the risk that if the zombies or whatever mutants are left behind after the apocalypse start coming up, then there is no way out. But no zombies will be a better case (since it is only an apocalypse, not particularly a zombie apocalypse). If it is zombies, then better find a good weapon store nearby!!

I m an Armourer for the British Army so I m sorted. I live in a guarded and fortified army base with a heap of weapons. We have helicopter and armoured viechles on site. Theres also an abundance of rations and preserved foods for this exact reason (an attack, not zombies) and we all know where our stations are if our base came under attack. Because I m the guy who looks after the guns, if anything were to happen, id be the first one with a weapon and i know how to use them. We also have all of the HAZMAT guys stationed here and i guess their the ones who will try and find a cure. But yeah, for the next 2 years (when my contract runs out) I m pretty safe where i am.

I guess I'd do what everyone else would, depending on the situation.

I would stay inside, going out only when extremely necessary and when the situation can't hold any longer then I would find other survivors and try to find a safe place far from the big cities and try to build a fort, or escape to some 'fantasy island', although that never seems to work, but as I said before, it all depends on the situation (zombies?, slow zombies? fast zombies?, vampires? vampire/zombies?, a virus?, rabid zombies?, a military invasion?, an alien invasion?, etc...)

The priority in every scenario is to find a safe refuge as soon as possible to evaluate the situation and move on from there.

Hope it helps! ;)

If I am able to and I survive long enough, I would use the survival books that I have. Not that they will ensure that I survive. It's a good start. I have books on how to craft knives, how to build a tent, make a fire, how to clean water, which plants are edible, etc. Meat could be a problem. I also hope that I would be able to come across sensible people.

Before the world ends in any manner shape or form i obviously better have my chest done (because i am an A cup) then the world can end however it wants okay but yeah i would make sure i have a machete and like during the day time i would just go out in a car and then like go to houses or markets and raid them for food or supplies and the most important thing EVER in a zombie apocolypse is makeup like i thrive off rimmel london and mac or chanel but yeah and if anything happens to me or if i know i am going to become a zombie i will make sure i put on a lipstain so my lips will still look fabulous no matter how much flesh i ate and hair extensions so my walking dead corpse will still look decent unless if someone shoots me in one of my chest or like snatches out my hair then i will look so uneven but yeah.

This is not the sort of thing that can very well be planned for. Many factors of survivability would be beyond the control of the average person. If ever anyone doubted that survival is really a throw of the dice in many ways, the scenario you present would certain prove it.

This isn't to say people need not bother to lift a finger in trying to prepare for the worst. It's simply to remind them that there are never any guarantees as to outcome.

First I'd weld armor plate and spikes to my car to crush any zombie or marauder that gets in my path. Next, I'd use the car to ram raid a gun shop and grab as many weapons and ammunition as I can carry (assuming the owner doesn't want to trade). Fortunately I wear leather jackets and heavy boots, so I will be well protected from zombie bites. If there are no armed gangs to join, I'd find a suitable place to fortify (e.g. a hilltop with good all-round vision), grow dandelions to eat, and rescue uninfected survivors as a source of meat

In the event of catastrophic proportions, man can only do one thing. Run when you have too, eat what you can, stay alive while you find a safe place to hide. eventually zombies will die out. If scientist don't get shot. Civilization could be back to something normal. They could teach people how to work basic equipment to get civilization on its two feet again. But that can take 200 years or more. So the whole point of surviving is to procreate and pass on your knowledge and heritage to your heirs of the throne. They would in turn learn from this historic mishap. and eventually society will take care of its self, like it is doing at the moment. only that they wouldn't depend so much on money rather on themselves and the people.

What I am doing right now,

because we are actually living in a post-apocalyptic world at this time. There was a falling away from the WAY for 1260 years ( And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.” https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=revelations+11%3A3-13&version=NKJV ) and then we had the DARK AGES for 500 years. After that America was born and a spiritual revival precipitated the 100 years of war which changed the entire landscape of the planet. There was the Spanish American War, World War I, World War II, The Korean War, The Viet Nam War, Desert Storm (The Gulf War), and then George W Bush's WAR ON TERROR. After that a leader took office in the whitehouse who "Knew not Jacob" and hates Israel, the family and kinsmen of our savior Jesus Christ.

Run for the hills...
Benjamin
2015-07-03 14:00:11 UTC
1. Run as fast as you can (Take my 2 dogs with me)

2.Get a Jeep

3. Get to a market and collect food, drinks, guns, knifes, tools, floud and mooney.

4. Save my family, best friend and girlfriend/boyfriend

5. Get rules.

6. Live in that car and move to a safe place. Probably we would take a boat and get to a close island.

7. After a few months we would go back to mainland and see if the zombies or whatever they are, are gone. If not, we would collect for food, and drinks.

Then hopefully they are some millions survivors and some of them are scientist so we could get a cure and cure the zombies.
2015-07-05 12:11:00 UTC
Well, hopefully I'd have notice of the apocalypse and what I'd do of course depends on the type of apocalypse. I would get as much bottled water as I could, as much canned food, guns to protect myself and my family from zombies. I might buy a dog too just for the hell of it. Maybe it could offer some protection.

I enjoy taking long naps, so I would be okay with staying in shelter for long periods of time. I'd hide out. I wouldn't fight anyone unless I had to. I think I'd be good. Am I naive? Yeah probably.

First thing I would do is call all of our friends to bring supplies to our "Papa's" house. We form a survival group, much like a Scottish Highland clan with "Papa" being chief. Then we head out as a group to the mountains and join his family because it is already an established area and we can live in it, with a Constitution and written laws, independent from the rest of the world. Safe water, land for food, and forest resources are already there and having these is the key to survival.

For protection we will have guns, but we will also be bringing flintlock firearms because we can manufacture black powder and fashion flints, giving us the advantage when modern bullets start to become scarce.

If we are lucky we can snag a generators, batteries, and fuel. Having intermittent access to electricity will be great for the first year as we transition back to an 18th century lifestyle. Having lead acid batteries can be useful for various applications and can run water pumps for the wells. Radio and existing indoor plumbing will be the only thing modern in this environment. We could try to reach out to other communities on the radio for trade and mutual aid.

Medicine and health will be key survival commodity. Antibiotics will run out but some natural version of sulfa, in sulfur springs, can be used. The distillation of spirits and various forms of alcohol will be helpful, given that there are stills out there.

Animals will be the key to our clan thriving and we will have acquire pigs and chickens on the way to the mountains. Horses and Mules will be needed as well for plowing, hauling, and manure for crops. We might have to resort to extreme measures to obtain these animals.

Live will be hard and bitter at first but when the next generation is born they will not know anything different and will accept life as if it was some version of 18th Century America.

I am already good at hunting for my own food and can survive the harshest coldest weather on the planet done it all my life, so I would go to a very cold place (-60 below 0 F or colder) with low population with lots of Big Game animals to hunt and set up a base of operations there.

It could be easier to survive there, at least for some time.

I live on an island so I suppose if I m lucky the infection won t get here but if it does there d be no more supplies for the grocery stores I d probably be forced to go to mainland in search for food and shelter, but I have no boat no ferry around, swimming is a suicide not cause I can t swim it s just too far to mainland, there are few neighbor islands but they re not an option. I know an old family who own a boat, they d help me to get to land, from there my mission will be to return in my country (I m an immigrant) to see if my sister and my nephew are alive and I think I d have a better chance surviving the apocalypse in my own country.

I live in southwest Arizona. It's an area that can't support many people. It can support a few if you're willing and able to live like an Apache. You will eat things that you would ordinarily shun. You will move around only during certain hours of the day. You will treat water like a god. You will not allow anyone on your turf... that means you have to allow yourself to kill people, rob them and possible eat them...though eating them is optional. The point here is you would have to be one ruthless mother

$%^&er to last a year in this environment. Until you're faced with eating a rattle snake, a road runner, a jack rabbit, or certain insects and boiling what ever water you want to drink... this area isn't for you.

First I would be prepared that if I became a zombie I would make sure to stay away from (Q the first time lord) Because I am a female and would like to keep my clothes on. Second I would Barricade myself at a mall or some huge store with food drink and guns. Stay as long as the food last, Grab some mealy weapons, I would also butter myself up real nice. That away when zombies try to grab me they would slip off and I might not get cut that way. Last as long as I can make nice with the natives and hope for the best.

I would go to a some tropical beach that's abundant with fish and build some water refinement machinery that'll solve food and water issues.

As for taking the world back lure the zombies to a pit area that you've dug or into any sports stadium get on top and as the zombies flow and fill the stadiums capacity, torch them all. rinse and repeat. That's how I would clear out cities granted I had the supplies and support to do so.

Assume it's a blood pathogen, virus perhaps, defensive quarantine required. I know a place, old land, good land, high ground, water source, single route in & out, good fields of fire, nice people but not all up to the challenge, I assume they would welcome the assistance when I arrived with my family. If not, I'll make an offer they couldn’t refuse. Then start on improvements to the defensive perimeter, add obstacles, trip wires, hide positions, conduct local patrols to locate friendlies, eliminate hostiles with night raids, consolidate power and stock pile supplies for use and trade. Then pack up, plan an exit before the word gets out, Canada maybe, or an island off the South Carolina coast, Highlands of Guatemala would be best... wait it out....

I would shelter in place. Within six months the population would decrease significantly. Without modern medicine and services many of the unhealthy, aged, incompetent, etc would die. Not that it is something I would want. But reality. Then I could start to forage. Make alliances with trustworthy and like minded people. Form some sort of government. Probably on the county level. Start to rebuild. Everyone would have to work together. No slackers. Or those seeking to profit off of others. Then we would try to get things back to were they were before. Hopefully having learned from our mistakes.

Hi! An apocalypse wouldn’t necessarily mean mass-destruction or zombies! It can actually be in the form of any sort of annihilation! It might be a great deluge, a massive tornado, a sand storm, drought or any sort of natural calamity. How to survive such a situation is really hard to predict and that’s mainly because you cannot really guess what might fall upon you! However, I do believe that it’s possible if there is a will!

The first few days are going to be crazy and everyone is going to be freaking out o I would stay out of sight for a couple of days that way I wont get trapped in a crowd of people, because if you get trapped in a crowd of people you will most likely die. Then after everything calms down a little bit I would go out and find necessary things needed to survive like water and food, etc; Then I will try to get weapons that are needed like knives and guns. Then after I have what I needed to survive I would go out into hiding for a while until I ran out of supplies then I would try to find a small group of survivors not a large group because they would only slow you down, so you need a group of about 10-15 people, also that way you want need to have a lot of resources.

Zombies...well, we're all screwed if it's zombies, according to most horror flicks. lol

If it was one of those, or one like in Revolution where all the power dies...People really wouldn't be as bad off as the shows and movies make them out to be. Or at least I would hope humans haven't gone THAT useless when it comes to surviving without most technology. Like people are so brain dead they can't live without their cellphones...okay, that was aimed at some more obsessive texters and the like, sorry, I couldn't help it. But we have brains to use which is one of the biggest assets, but also could be a problem...Get in a good, but small group if possible since it's easier to manage and care for without too much BS from infighting. People who can use their brains to think rationally and get along for survivals sake, not for looks in film...

Find a place, make a home you can move if needbe easily, or at least pack important items fast and easily, learn how to boil water and go hunting/fishing like they did a few hundred years ago and some still do, and build proper shelters that work, but are inconspicuous. Of course this can be difficult with zombies: Same thing really, but probably more moving around and staying away from any areas where there would be likely zombie hordes...or hey, move somewhere cold, they're rotting corpses would freeze up, like to see them chase me when they're frozen and unable to move those dead limbs of theirs without them literally breaking off. lol Keep dogs, they'll let you know whose coming, just train them to do it quietly. I doubt a dog wouldn't notice that smell from miles away...of course if the wind is blowing it away, you're all screwed again.

Just curious, why is this in politics?

Honestly, as a person coming from a military family, I would first call every family member and see if they're alright. Keep in touch with them as long as possible and figure out a plan of action. If I were by myself, I'd take as many abandoned cars, find other people to survive with, find food, and a place to stay. Get as many electronics I could find, charge all of them before electric and plumbing goes out, and try to live as long as I can. Oh, and not to mention protecting myself with weapons and ammunition. The usual.

Well you mean like a zombie apocalypse? Well wouldn't I be safe in my house? I mean slow zombies are so weak they can't even break a window. But fast zombies?! AHH! There's my problem. Guess I'd just grab all food and weapons I needed, get in my car and drive as far as I can. Hopefully it has a lot of petrol, if it doesn't I'm screwed. If that is the case, guess the car would be useless then huh? So then I'd just get my gun and shoot the zombies like a boss. If there was a problem with my gun, I'd just use my chainsaw. If there was a problem with that, I'd just use my knife. If there was a problem with that I'd use my axe. But that's all the weapons I would think I need! So if my car just wouldn't drive, and my weapons were useless, my brain is screwed!

I'd end up dead, depending on how doomsday goes.

I'm not that physically fit, I have a mental illness, and with the added bonus of scoliosis, asthma and a bad menstrual flow that almost killed me; I'd be dead in no more than five days at the most. I'm just gonna face reality and not be one of the 50% who answer and put down deceased because there's no way I'd be able to survive it. Either it's by disease (like the plague), zombies, nuclear warfare, etc; I'm dead.

Realistic Answer: I would die, quite quickly...

Less Realistic answer: I would find a vehicle, preferably a car. I would scavange the land for metal sheets, wood, and other structure materials. I would build a makeshift sheild on the car, and I would try to strap something sharp to the sides, so I can stab through mutants/zombies.

Once I have a way of getting around, I would raid out shops. I would then search for weapons and self-deffense. Once I have weapons I would stash them in my car. Next I would drive to a tall building, and setup a little shack. I would attempt solar power. For water, I would raid water bottles from shops, and setup a rainwater supply.

At a later stage I would begin to search for survivors.

Then, when my time is up, (As in I am about to die) I would go down trying to kill as many mutants/zombies as possible.

Haha :D

Immediately depart my current location on the Gulf coast for Fort Jefferson on the Dry Tortugas. Tropical climate (the rains would bring plentiful fresh water, I'd just need to open up the old cisterns for storage and boil anything I pull out to avoid waterborne illness), plentiful fishing, enough land for me to grow some veggies (I keep plentiful seed on hand for my own garden now) to supplement my aquatic protein sources. Fort Jefferson is a Civil War era fortification and would stand up to anything less than a modern naval/amphibious assault but it hasn't had any strategic value for over 100 years, so no one would really be trying to get there. It's far enough away from shore that it would take some skill at sailing to get there and few people know it exists, but it's only 2 hours to mainland Florida and 4 hours to Cuba for supply runs.

I live close to the Appalachian mountains so I would make my way there find a secluded mountain find a natural spring so I could have water and live off the land hunting wild game for food such as deer, squirrels and bear. I would set up camp and live isolated in the woods far away from any towns. If any random zombie would come by I could kill it with my crossbow and stay in the spot. If food or water becomes scarce I would move around the mountain range and find another spot I could make camp. If I luck out I may find a group of people I could team up with and live with in a camp or community.

Getting together with other people would be my primary focus apart from basic survival, then we'll pledge to create civilization anew. Here in my country (NZ) is sparse population, zero dangerous wildlife and lots of wilderness and farmland. The main thing to fear as always is not radiation or zombies but each other, the criminal gangs which already exist could become particularly problematic. Thankfully it will also give us a chance for rebirth, to cast away the shackles of parasitic capitalism for good.

There was a 50w movies about an atomic attack, "The Day the Earth Stood Still." Like in that picture we undoubtedly wouldn't be around very long, and 1/2 of our population I don't feel has the will or intestinal fortitude to survive without their technology and materialistic items, and their money would become toilet paper real quickly. Why are the yahoo team asking questions when the website is on the fritz. Fix this broken website so we can actually participate!!!!

That being said

I would attempt to reach the woods. Climb a tree and build a makeshift shelter. Eat nuts and berries, hunt squirrels, rabbits and birds. Dig trenches and burry the zombies when the trenches begin to fill up. Create wind powered noise makers to lead the zombies away from my shelter into spike pits. The most creative bit I can think of to survive this situation is actually kind of strange. I would put my fresh blood, pee, and poop in little boats to constantly float down the stream leading the zombies down stream and eventually into a tangle of prickers and whatever fencing I could scrounge up.

I would break into a military base and get one of those tanks! Use it as an escape or to get food when my resources are low. Then blow up any group of zombies in site! Then take it to an underground base wIth some rifles, snipers, grenades and ammo I took from the base. I would bring only 2 other people along to help me. One girl and another guy. The girl could be my sniper or use the tank to cover me and my friend while we are trying to take get some supplies! Also to help us repopulate the earth. because let's face it a lot people are going to die and be turned to zombies! Having some future kids to help survive wouldn't be that bad. IMO

Day 1: I would take all of the food left in the grocery stores and i would store them in an abandon car. I will fuel gas and I would drive to an abandon house or Bangalore. After that I would gather all of the remaining individuals and I would keep them in comfort. I will then find any weapon that would be useful to protect ourselves form the zombies. After that I will stow them in a room or something, and we would sleep for the day.

2nd Day: I would build barriers for incoming or oncoming zombies. I will get my weapons (i.e Ak-47, MP7, chainsaws, bat, etc) and we ll be ready fpr the zombies. But before that we ll have to get some food. I would with a friend to an abandon shop and gather all of the remaining and dash home before any invasion begins.

3rd day: Now we ve had rest and eveything I would be ready for the invasion to begin. I will be in the Balanchine and the others will be prowling in the rooms ready for the invasion. There was only 3 Zombies around the region so there was no need to cause a commotion. WE just killed them with our bats and axe.

4rth Day: We went out for a walk to see if there was any zombies, but we something out of the ordinary. We saw a human being, starving, strength-less, weak, and he needed medication. We brought him into the house and wefetched food for him. We left to bring medication, (two people were watching over him) and during our little stroll, we saw zombies, not one or two, but hundreds. We couldn t go much further because it was impossible. But we still had to go , we prowled quitely and we dashed in into the drug store. There we stole medication and slowly prowled home. WE fed him and everything and a day later he was fine. We continued our journey and the days went by.

Lol yh that s what i would do, sorry for spelling and grammar. I went on without even knowing lol :)

I probably wouldn't survive the initial attack or virus or whatever. I live in a nice little area of England so there are no guns I could easily get to if I needed weapons (not that I would be able to use them anyway, I am a terrible shot). I have no survival skills. Like none at all. So I would probably get eaten and die or starve and die. You get the picture.

2. Head two miles up the road to the grocery store and stock up on canned foods, pasta, rice, and other easy fixings. Of course it's better to stock on food before such things happen, but be real. How many Americans are currently stocking up for the apocalypse besides preppers?

3. Drive to the gun store and stock on .223 and .357

4. Go to my fathers house for:

- he is ex presidents hundred and has received extensive training in firearms as have I. He's just better.

- he reloads ammo, has a lot of firearms, and a lot of ammo for protection.

- he's an anesthesiologist. A very well respected one. He is an excellent medic and could care for a variety of wounds.

5. Head up to the remote mountains in a SRATEGIC location. Line of sight, etc. Lack of people, lots of wild game to hunt, find a water source and boil the water to rid of contaminates. Collect rain water.

6. Set up post

- sentrys, watch, etc

7. Survive via any means possible.

It would depend on the type of apocalypse. If biblical, like in Revelations, I would be getting religious real quick.

Otherwise, since there would be a complete societal break-down, I would try to be the first post-apocalyptic king. I am so up for the challenge!

Looking for and steeling food, water, and gathering guns with ammo, and then I'd try to find some form of safe shelter. If you can eat/stay hydrated, sleep a little, and defend yourself as long as possible, then you might survive for a little while. It may also be wise to find cities to raid for supplies, located next to wilderness, with a semi-clean water source, and the potential for some hunting and fishing. However, in the wilderness shelter is imperative, especially in the winter time. It would be VERY challenging to survive for a long time. You also want to stop all sexual activity in a survival scenario, to limit loss of nutrients through seminal ejaculation. Stay strong, find warm shelter, get lots of water, and canned foods.

Assuming of course that my homestead doesn't take a direct hit, I have enough "beans, bullets, and bandages" to survive a "grid-down" situation for at least a month. (I've worked a number of disaster recoveries. They made a big impression.) However, after a month or so my life would not be worth living if I could not refill my prescriptions. It's my adult children I'd worry about then.

I have done extension research on survival during a zombie apocalypse (I've played the classic Resident Evil games). It is common knowledge that zombies can never be in the same room as both a typewriter and a big box. I would travel with both a typewriter and a big box wherever I go.

I'd try to find a good group to live with; I assume it'd be a small fortified community. I'd try to fit in as the brewer--they'd need someone who can make beer and wine. Those are safe to drink even if the water is contaminated with pathogens, and once you're surviving, bare survival isn't enough--people need recreation and entertainment as well.

I have several stages of my plan laid out

1. Once the apocalypse was starting, I would go to the convenience stores by my house, and I would either buy or steal EVERYTHING, and I do mean everything, I could carry, especially food, water, and medical supplies. And I had better hurry, because convenience stores are going to be one of the first places hit by looters.

2. I would hunker down in my house with my family. If anyone, human, zombie or anything else, tried to break in, I'd get rid of them like the kid in Home Alone. And if that didn't work, my family has plenty of weapons in our house. I would hide here until the initial wave of the attack is over. If I ran out of food, I would catch squirrels in my backyard or go fishing in a creek near my house. If I needed water, I'd either collect rainwater or go to the creek.

3. Once the coast looks clear, I would leave my house to see if any of my neighbors survived. Together, we would form a small militia and force zombies and bad humans out of our neighborhood, and we would start rebuilding society.

A lot of people think survival means "having lots of guns". That is BS. Survival is about stocking up on supplies, having a good plan, and being able to do whatever it takes to survive. If you want to survive a situation like this, you have to be ready to eat your own pets, you have to be ready to murder your friends if they turn into enemies, you must be ready to let people around you die if it's for the greater good. That's what survival is all about.
2015-07-01 12:42:25 UTC
I would gather supplies and eventually make myself a member of a loyal group. Making sure I am not only useful and respectful, but don't attract too much unwanted attention from the other members either. A happy medium. From their I would convince my group to travel somewhere far from the city, but still close to supplies. Then make our way to a near by island (on the sea) yet still far enough from land. I would hope the island far enough away so it will not attract other groups or zombies, but still close enough for easy access to land. The island would hopefully be big enough to create a small community of about 35 people some farming and enough wooded area for space and concealment. But also small enough to over time build a wall of some sort around it.

This would be my plan in the case of a zombie apocalypse. Other apocalypses are completely diffrent.

the answer to this question. would you be able to survive in an apocalyptic world? the answer is NO! if everything is poisoned. such as. food, water and the air we breath. all the bare esentails are gone. or depleated. and no sunlight. what would you think?! and as far as zombies coming back to life. and eating the living. that will never happen! once someone is gone. they are gone for good! there is no such thing as reincarnation! coming back as something else! once your human. you remain human! that can t, won t. and will never change! zombies are nothing more. then something hollywood made up! its not real! its a fantasy! Pretend to be a zombie, but wear something like a sign saying "I m not actually a zombie" so people won t mistake me for an actual zombie and kill me, but then what if I become a zombie anyway? Then people will think that I m not a zombie when I am probably a zombie.

**** it, I ll have me and fellow survivors dig a moat around a suburban street and just wait til it all blows over. In the meantime play vidya and cook oven pizzas, using power from stolen solar panels (Sorry!) and car batteries from broken down vehicles.

Someone (don t know who) said that after a nuclear war the survivors would envy the dead.

1. Band together with as many survivors as possible.

2. Find out everyone's strengths and weaknesses and look for leaders.

3. Setup a camp and rules.

4. Gather all resources and plan short term and long term goals

5. Do whatever is necessary to survive, if it means cannibalism then so be it.

I guess move somewhere remote and wait it out is the most realistic approach. I live in a heavily populated state so at the first sign i would just get out quick as i could. leave everything behind, bring who i can right away. stack supplies later. run to the mountains is the best bet i guess because it should be a nice place to hide, plenty of game, caves and its remote. just survive till its over. work together with people. that's all i could think of, oh and trying not to die is a important.

Of course depending on the type of Apocalypse situation:

Establish a team. Find the most reliable and smart people available to you, and meet ASAP. My priority items I would be getting ASAP would be, 3+ pocket knives, cell phone/charger, a honda civic, 5+ cans of fuel, as much water as I could gather, as many lighters that I could gather, black clothes (camo for night), warm/jacket/clothes.

I would then drive north to Antarctica, tons of nature (so easy surviving, if smart). Find a cold area 0-10F, and survive as long as possible. A disease will be slowed down in the cold. Keep radio contact (hopefully).

Then just sit back and watch to see if the human race can really go extinct AKA: killing themselves. (I would lol irl).

If its flesh eating monsters or zombies or something like that i would leave evacuate the city as soon as possible because it would be nuked pretty quickly make camp in an area with cold climate and forest but the most important factor would be a lack of population in that area ive found the perfect area its about above a 6000 feet mountain so the monsters or zombie coming over is highly unlikely if so they can be killed

Really. It would take a few days for people here to get the message that it was real and we were on our own. Even the 'city kids' here are barely removed from grandma's farm. 16 year olds still call the refrigerator the 'icebox'. Everyone has at least one hunting gun, knows how to hunt, dress, and cure or can meat. The kids can 'set lines' or seine the big blue for fresh fish and shellfish and everyone knows how to garden and make cheese from milk. We're farmers. Even the stockbrokers are farmers. We'll be fine.

1. Determine the kind of apocalypse.

2a. If nuclear, then gather what food, water, batteries, and medicine that I can and probably hide out in a fortified basement. I'd make sure to have many non-perishables and essentials.

2b. If a zombie apocalypse, fortify the house and send out some people to gather food, water, medicine, guns, bullets, and weapons.

3b. Assemble a team along the way. You know, perhaps take in people that have been good and proven themselves.

But we all just need to find Daryl Dixon :-P

Do what I have to do to protect myself and my family.

Which means:

1> All laws of community ways and means are OFF! People are not to be trusted in regular situations, much less survival episodes!

2> Pretty much every man [and his family]for himself. Bug out bags for the entire family are a must. At least a week's worth of water per person and adequate weapons to protect the family.

3> Read Anything BUT the bible. Reading material on staying alive and edible plants and meats and health care in the wild. Look for a permanent shelter with a good supply of water and plants and meat. Also have a visual advantage of your surroundings

DON'T TRUST ANYONE!!

Read the Bible when you get out of this mess.

I would go to the most remote place I know, In my case its an Island in Ireland where there's a mountain that i'd hide at the back of. I'd bring a bunch of survival supplies, warm clothes and a good tent. Basically I'd rather hide and wait it out ( a little adventure) than fight and risk dying.

Honestly I d start by getting some of my close friends. Then, we d try to get the best weapons we could find and get enough food and supplies to last for awhile. I d also try to ahold of vehicles and use my ATV for transportation too. After this we d try to find a good shelter to stay and set up camp there and hopefully survive as long as possible without getting killed. Lastly, I d make sure that my buddies and I had lots of alcohol so we could enjoy ourselves.

In any apocalypse one must and should always follow the US CDC standard procedure to surviving natural disasters and basic pandemic procedures. The basic rule is to wait for about 3 months with 6 months being the ultimate goal before moving out to some form of designated point of meeting or extraction. Large supplies of water and food is all you really need as long as you keep quiet and avoid drawing any attention to your location.

Anyway just to help whatever lonely survivor out there that will read my answer:

1.Fill pots pans, 1/3 of all your trash bags, storage bins, empty bottles, cans, jugs, your sinks, bath tub, and buckets with as much water as possible.

2.Grab as much instant pasta and instant soup as a food priority. Grab canned food, weeds, dandelions, and fruit as a secondary food priority. Anything else is a tertiary.

3.My mom is going to shut down the power box

I would go try to get access to an AR 15 to protect myself. Then I would go to a gardening store, buy as many seeds as I could, and I would also buy bags of rice for the meantime for rationing to myself. I would also buy as many vitamins as I could so I wouldn't be too malnourished. Then I would create a fire and collect water through distillation so the water's clean. I would probably use wool as a fire starter with a battery. I think I would take shelter up in the mountains and that would be my plan.

I'd squeal and look to others to lead me.

Then I'd squeal even more when the others realise how much of a burden I am and use me as human bait for the zombies/robots/mechanised Barbara Streisand. And then I'd REALLY be squealing when said monster realises how entertaining my squealing sounds and decides not to eat me but use me as a sex-slave for trading with the neighbouring vampire/ET/powerpuff-girl tribes.

Then I'd think to myself, "how did all this post-apocalyptic stuff start, and how did I not see ANY of it coming?"

you go away from city's as fast as you can have at list 2 guns and plenty ammunition with you carry as much water as you can create a shelter fare away from any other people, prefer under grown shelter hid all you food an water. have battery's and flush light fire is imported and make sure you have marches hid them in deferent places and not in one place. If you have time and space get clothing to stay worm. avoid open spaces and stay hiding in a thick forest , use tree lives to cover you self . don let any one, not even a friend close to you more than a 100 years, prepare to kill if strangers do not follow orders plus Meany other thinks.

I don't live in the country or the city, so I would just do what came next.

For

Economic collapse & Solar flare or other type of catastrophe, I'd help others or get in line with them & seek help from others.

I don't believe anything can "reanimate dead flesh" (As in "Zombies") but in the result of plagues and other wicked viruses like super strains of rabies or mad cow / human, I would do whatever it took to get to the shore where I would steel a sailboat large enough to support my family and set sail away from the area.

Of course, I would eventually come across some GOV unit that would assume we were infected and sink us, or a smaller boat full of armed pirate types that think our boat would be much better for them and they would kill us, but, it was worth a shot.

I suspect a lot of you consider this as an entertaining affair...

Unfortunately, there are people out there for whom life is already apocalyptic enough for us to need to concentrate on finding immediate solutions: countries at war, children at risk, vulnerable individuals in countries struck by disaster, conflict, famine, political instability...

I used to find all zombie films and the like entertaining... however with a bit more maturity I have lost interest: there are things happening in the world on a daily basis which I am really sad about. Some of these things make it into the news. But what about the isolated cases that we are not aware about, or keep our eyes and ears shut about? Even close to home, you will find someone who leads a life of apocalypse and in a society as modern as ours that is truly chilling. Children are still abducted, women are still molested, and vulnerable people are still being exploited.

Please consider making this world a better place, you can do volunteering for instance like I do, there is a website in the UK to help you find such roles: https://do-it.org/

If you are more able, if you have leadership skills you can set up and lead charities and organisations that carry out specific actions to deal with dramatic situations such as coming to help places struck by tsunamis, earthquakes, floods, fires... you can study medicine and give a helping hand in the health sector or you can study law for instance and make things change for good by improving our systems to protect the most vulnerable and our society altogether.

Considering ways to survive an apocalypse is only a way to start I suppose to think about finding solutions to better our survival in case of hardship. But please keep in mind this is the reality right now of millions of people in the world. If you think of them, then you will better focus your effort because it can actually serve a cause and make this current world a better place.

There are many organisations out there you can contribute to financially or by working or volunteering for them, who will deal with tackling hardship/apocalyptic circumstances on a daily basis. These are the true heroes. These are the ones that change the world for good. These are the ones that gain the most rewarding feeling of all when they have managed to make a difference. These are the ones who truly fight the 'zombies', the disasters and the 'evils' of this earth for a better world and it takes a lot of courage.

I hope you understand. I hope you too will take the step to change the world into a better place. Any step, however big or small, any step in the right direction will count. Thanks

Nb: organisations of interest: UNICEF, NSCPC, Green Peace, Doctors Without Borders, Save The Children, Red Cross, Amnesty International, and many many more.

Look them up, get inspired, contribute, make a difference, be a hero.

So, to answer Yahoo's question, this is what I do: try and do my bit and raise awareness and rally people to help those dealing with an apocalyptic situation right NOW.

Secure (get) weapons with accurate long range abilities. A nice hunting rifle, for example, and plenty of ammo.

Let everyone else rush to and steal from the stores and then just simply pick off those who have the cached supplies one by one. Three spotters with binoculars, one accurate shooter and a Judas goat or two would allow the group you are in to live like kings.

Simple really.

Honestly, all I could really do is gather up what little supplies I have on hand & the one gun & small stockpile of ammo I own & hope to find a vehicle to steal (a motorcycle is good for a speedy getaway but it doesn't provide any protection or adequate storage space).

Then, I'd make my best attempt to loot one of the mom & pop grocery stores on the outskirts of a town about 50 miles from here. If that doesn't sound likely, many of these stores are in such an isolated, backwoods area that they keep extra supplies locked up in an outside building (i.e., something that resembles a rickety old barn) away from the main store. If I was lucky, I'd be able to use my bolt cutters to get inside & load up a duffel bag at one of the small stores, I'm thinking the one farthest out, probably just an hour or 2 before sunrise.

In order to survive past a few days, I'd have to keep my head on straight & realize that it wouldn't just be zombies I was up against but also other survivors, wild animals, starvation, dehydration, getting sick from a lack of proper hygiene over a long period of time, running out of other basic supplies, etc. I'd have to assume that anyone I encountered would be out to kill me & steal my supplies, so I'd try have to take them out if they were alone or do my best to sneak around any groups, if I was able.

Most likely though, I would die quickly. Not for a lack of effort, but because the odds would be stacked against me so greatly that even if my plan somehow fell into place & I got out to that spot on the mountain 70 miles away (20 past the stores just for good measure) where there is a house, etc. that a friend's parents' own...what then? I'd eventually run out of supplies & food. I could build a shelter away from the main house, there is plenty of land up there to hide on but sustaining myself up there would be extremely hard.

Damn.

Team Leaders are those among survivors who’ve stood out in the most positive ways. They’ve shown courage, leadership, and the ability to communicate with people from all walks of life. They’re the ones who would put their lives on the line in order to protect their team and everyone around them. Leaders can take on any job depending on their other abilities.

For example they can be a Chef, Doctor, Hunter, Etc… Essentially they can take on any job and lead a team as long as they’re capable of handling it. The role of multiple leaders was created in order to keep a single person from having too much power.

Much the same as I should have done to avert the apocalypse in the first place:

On a personal level, all the good, strong, real, humane things, and nothing

predatory; and on the social level nothing against the best behest of the people.

No fake fun. No wars. Probably you could never get a majority of the citizens

in prospective combatant countries to vote for any war, (or for surveillance of people

by gov't, or for delivering techno-death to intellectual property rights, or for investing

all the power/wealth in the hands of one percent of the people, or putting in the

hands of the few control of vast blocks of media airways, or for gifting fov't

with the power to shut down the internet, etc., etc., etc.). Pacifist enlightened

democracy. Unremoveable regulations limiting the size of, and guaranteeing

workers - not management or ownership - control over, every human business.

Change, with the ultimate goal of creating a direct democracy, computer

assessment of the popular will, and then swift and thorough execution of its

behests with no interference by avaricious self-interest or power-struck demogaugery.

drive nice abandoned cars, full blast Slayer and Pantera to be heard down an entire street, loot for fun, break stuff for fun, eat food I couldn't afford to eat, watch every movie I wanted in a movie store, play all new video games from video game stores for free, burn houses down that are a town over, do any illegal drug I wanted without a reason to fear for my health...

to me a post apocalyptic world wouldn't be an adventure or a struggle. it'd be a playpen. unlimited access to all society created, no reason to fear death, nobody to worry about respecting, no authority to fear, no morality needed. the end of the world is the beginning of freedom.

For zombies, I would try to get a juggernaut suit or cover my body to become "unbiteable" and get close combat weapons without ballistics like swords, spears and bows/arrows cause ammo would run out after a while. Find like-minded people to cleanse the local community for zombies and try to convince everybody the best way to survive is to cooperate for as long as possible. But eventually resources would run out and everybody would turn on each other so after observing the community, I would try to convince the best people to come with me on getting survival gear such as water filters, solar powered rechargeable generators, nets/fishing gear and get sailboats to transport us to Greenland where water and local wildlife can sustain us for generations until the world come back on it's feet.

I'd do everything, I possibly could. But for starters, I'd live in a house boat, on a river, rather than in a city.

Although, where I live now, there's one big river, which turns a lot of corners, and two big lakes, and both lakes have a place where boats are stored.

Survival is a natural instict. Some people will be better than others. I would try to find other survivors and set up a base camp. Safety in numbers

Humans are very social beings. It is not our weakness, but our strength. 1000s of years ago we found we could accomplish a lot more by working together. And I think the most successful survivors won't be loners. They will have skill to join groups like our ancestors once did like tribes or bands of people working toward a common goal.

"Through stealth, feint, ambush, and main-force assault, a few of us cooperating accomplished what many of us, each hunting alone could not. We depended on one another. Making it on our own was as ludicrous to imagine as was settling down." -Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot

I think having good ingenuity, knowledge and being fit and healthy would all be advantageous towards survival. You would probably have to trade items to get by. You would have to be hard as well because I think other people would attack you to take your items and clothes. Also, you would need to be good at navigating the land to successfully reach other places were there could be more resources or people to trade with. You would probably survive better in a group of people. Having a dog or multiple dogs would be helpful also because the dog(s) could hunt for food.

It would be useful to carry weapons around such as guns or crossbows with ammo in case you have to defend yourself or hunt for food. You would definitely need some sort of container to carry water in. You would also need your own shelter to sleep in at night or to take cover when the weather turns bad.

Durable footwear such as hiking boots or steel toe capped boots to walk around in. I would wear durable clothes if I they were available - such as a leather jacket, workers trousers, a belt and a neck warmer and woolly hat for when the weather gets cold. A durable, big backpack would also be useful to carry items, weapons and water in. Also a compass and a watch to navigate and tell the time of day would also be useful.

I think, Whatever I CAN DO with My ABILTY of My THINKING with the ACTIONS, With the Availabilty of the Resources or the Enemity to Face, I will Try to Survive as Much as, I CAN, Until I will be Alive with the Depending on the Mental Capability and the Physical Stamina to Cope with the Vulnarabilty. But, Every thing Depends.

So, that's really about luck.

you will not survive a post apocalyptic world. i will not survive a post apocalyptic world. ragnaraok will be the end or our species. a new human type species will emerge but it will be unrecognizable from us, and genetically different enough so that interbreeding may produce offspring but the offspring will be infertile.

at ragnarok i will crush many enemies and hew off the limbs of their fallen. then you and me and von and those ancient fathers of honor of name will drink mead from their skulls at valhalla. what is survive? odin i come.

For me, it would depend highly on what type of apocalypse and how much warning I had. A few days warning and anything short of oblivion and I can get close to assuring my family survives for a few weeks. enough money and a few years to plan and we could survive almost anything that would make exterminate humanity.

I'll put best case here. I know what is coming, I have the resources I need to prepare and I have time.

Acquire or build a bunker on land that is secluded from heavily populated areas.

Have a water source that I can dam up for a low head hydro-electric power generation so we can have power living off the grid.

Have a proper water treatment system

Set up hydroponics to grow food within my bunker.

Get pet rabbits and raise them as a food source. Feed the rabbits from the hydroponics garden as well.

Store up as many MRE's as I can get my hands on.

Set up a secure CCTV system including low light and IR so we can know as much as possible about what is happening around our bunker - security reasons

Get weapons, a LOT of them. Melee AND firearms.

Get TONS of ammunition

Start getting paramilitary training - formal

Start getting survival training - formal

Stock up on how-to books

Stock up on seed for food products

Stock up on spare parts for critical equipment and systems that keep my bunker running.

ensure the Bunker has concealed sally ports for escapes or for ambushing attackers.

Frist thing you need is to protect yourself and family , yes that means guns knifes etc... Than get as much food and medicine that you will need. Find a good place to live hide and trying growing plants for food. But of course most everyone be trying to do the same , joining a group that has the same goal as you will be a great plus.

Assess whether it would be worth to continue to survive. I might commit suicide if I viewed the situation as too harsh. \

If I decided to continue living, then I would pray a lot. I doubt I would survive a long time anyhow since it is unlikely that I would have clean water to drink.

Such a fun question to think about. I think I'd stock up on some food then move to a country area and make an underground shelter. Make a farm, gather some friends, do that stuff.
2015-07-04 09:15:27 UTC
Steal a tank, loot a Paul's (Midwestern General Store- they have almost anything and everything you can think of), loot some home improvement stores (Ace Hardware, Home Depot, etc), loot a pet store, hoard canned foods and water treatment materials, and stockpile home movies. Then I'd hijack a boat and travel to an island.

My worry is spices like my self (human). They are only dangerous creature at that time.We can find water ,food and shelter ,but danger of been attach by another like us is scarier than apocalyptic it self .An option of kill to not be killed it's a war survive option and no one like it .living with that fear is worse than the Apocalypse .

i would stock pile my house with lots of non perishable and canned foods. And water. I will take moist wipe baths instead of using shower. Will make sure that I do not go out if I have to and that the car is always full of gas in case i need to escape. Basically that's all I can do. And make sure that cell phone works too

1) Ransack everywhere for weapons, food water, books, seeds, beds, bottles ect.

2) Find a very high, sheltered building.

3) Live there and collect rainwater, grow food and read to pass the time.

4) Learn to deal with living alone for the rest of my life.

5) Begin to form a resistance with other non zombies to make the world a better place.

6) Be prepared to live fight and die for what is right and what I believe in.

Id do nothing because zombies and such are a figment of mankinds imagination. Not reality. As for living in an apocalyptic world we already are, because Mankind is slowly but surely destroying it.Mankind itself is his own apocalypse because it in his nature to destroy. Mankind will destroy the earth not ghouls, bogey men,or zombies. In reality mankind is his own worse enemy. Not imaginary stories of fantasy.

*oh what the hell, i'm bored anyways ill just waste this answer*

I'll most likely armor up with a plate carrier (with IV steel inserts) (with leg, arm, and neck protection) and a PASGT helmet. Then, i'll kill as many as I can before turning into a zombie, so that it makes it that much harder for other survivors to kill me.

If the zombies are runners then even better, it makes it 10x harder to survivors to kill a running armored zombie.

1. Grab all important items

-my cats (yeah, I'm that person who would save their pets and risk their life for their pet)

-all the food and water I can get my hands on, including my cats food

-clothes (you can't wear the same thing forever)

-shoes

-flashlights

-photos of family and friends

-id, social security card, and birth certificate (for identification purposes in the case that the United Nations sends in the military to round up survivors)

-cash

-weapons (knives or gun)

-blankets

-tent

-sleeping bag

-all first aid supplies in my house

-tool kit

2. Load everything in my car and speed to the gas station

3. Get as much gas a possible and raid the gas station store for containers to fill up more gas in

4. Raid a grocery store and pet store for more food and water (for myself and my cats), seeds, planting supplies, and a ton of first aid items

5. Head for CA, I live in a state close enough that a tank of gas and an additional 5 gallon container of gas would get me there

6. Find my family in CA

7. Wait for help to arrive, unless it's not just the U.S. that's been wiped out

8. If the whole world is gone then I'd set up a camp in a secluded area (in case of people who go around looking for other survivors to steal from them or kill them)

9. Plant the seeds I got from the grocery store and start a fire on the first day there

10. Begin to live life without anyone except my family and cats

I think I would go crazy with lack of water... I live by a lake and if that were to dry out.... omg.. I can cope with lack of food but not.. lack of water.

I have lotz of food and water at my pantry+closet. So I will just hide in my house eating those with my gun in my hand. I also have two big dogs to guard me.

but once that food is gone and there is no water, imma have to get out of the house and explore the land..

I will try to join a group of people to gather strength together. since being alone would be really dangerous.

From then, we jus hav to follow destiny XD

It's rural here and we know how to hunt, fish, and grow food.

I have access to water - well water and over 800 gallons of stored rain water as well as a few small lakes nearby.

We have excess food - we can, dehydrate, and freeze food from what we grow and I have various fruit bushes and fruit trees, nut trees, an asparagus bed, and perennial herbs plus seeds. I have a greenhouse.

We keep chickens and bees.

We have guns, quite a few of them actually.

We are self sufficient as are our neighbors.

I would probably be with a small group of people with acquired skills. 8 men. Three men must have militant backgrounds, 3 other men can be normal. 8 women, NO CHILDREN below age 16 or people with babies to prevent being slowed down. Pets - large dogs only (capable of keeping up). And trustworthy people that want to participate. If its zombies or just crazy people, I know from enough movies you have to shoot them in the head or somehow destroy the brain, so I'll have maybe a few guns and lethal weapons for the adults. We will have vehicles, and trucks for ea. person. Warm environment only to increase chance of food and life growth. We'll spend a week or so accumulating and filling trucks, (people that die or get killed during these trips will be replaced).

Each truck will have an assigned location:

(2 trucks) Truck one - carries smaller vehicles, small boat (at least 2), for rougher terrain, gasoline tanks, auto-supplies in case of problems, weapons, etc.

Truck two - carries clothing (boots, shoes, survival clothing), we can get this wildlife gear from a nearby mall, pharmacy products (pain killers, medications, flu/cold meds, first aids, stomach meds, etc etc., hygiene products (toothpastes/brushes, soaps, hair products, toilet papers, feminine products, etc.) other supplies. (pots, pans, bedding, tents, easy shelters, etc.)

Truck three - carries food, water (large packages of bottled water), gardening tools, building tools and plants. All foods will be protein, vitamin dense, all healthy foods, minimum junk food, non-perishable. (whole grains, starches, lentils, etc) mostly a Vegetarian diet, mainly because meat would be more perishable and need to be hunted / cooked right away. Energy boosting, protein dense conservation foods will be needed, no people lagging behind, getting lazy easily. Where we are going probably will have no electricity. The plants for seeding / farming our own food to reduce as many trips back to towns as possible.

Truck four - carrier of smaller supplies or ''whatever we can think of truck'' last minute items that people think they may need. (Maps, gadgets, toys, (personal) CELLPHONES and CAR CHARGERS to be used in the trucks/vehicles, other helpful tools).

All trucks will report to an isolated mountain area, bonus if its a town, but we will be docked away and out of sight from the main route, but is also easy enough for them to travel. (This is where the smaller vehicles come in). They will travel back and forth through isolated regions in the mountains transferring supplies from the trucks to the survival site. There will be a small alternating team (group of 4), that camps out and monitors the trucking stations at night to prevent animal thieving and monitoring the location.

Back in the survival camp, we will first establish shelter + get settled and getting to know the area. After at least a month of undisturbed isolation (no stray zombies/crazy people), we can start planting seeds and making gardens for grown vegetables/fruits, getting more acclimated little by little and establishing community. This will be a SLOW process in case of dangers or compromising. After a year of being danger free, we can slowly progress, staying small but slowly improving not to draw any attention.

I guess I will first learn how to kill. I kill for survival and protection. Fearing of blood will not be allowed.

Then I will learn not to fear. Fear will only make me even more helpless.

And then I will learn how to steal. I need to steal supplies in order to survive.

After that, I will see if there are any allies.

In a survival plan, the most important thing is Food, then shelter then clothing. We return to the three most basic human needs, as the world will be reset.

Absolutely nothing. In the event of a zombie scenario, I would get eaten in the first hour. If there was a nuke I would die in the blast. Any other scenario I would starve within a week because I have no food in my house. I am basically a goner.
2015-07-09 17:24:34 UTC
Well

1.Try to find as much food as possible.

2. Shelter that has a sustainable foundation.

3.Maybe try to find some weapons,

4.If I am in the same place where the virus started, LEAVE IMMEDIATLY.

5.Figure out what started the virus and try to help contain it so it does spread any farther.

Have Yahoo! Answers glitching like crazy. I've been seeing "Oops something went wrong" for some days but it is far worse today. I'm also getting "Your criteria doesn't match any questions" but if I keep on refreshing the page it sometimes works. Posting answers is slow too. "We are experiencing some problems, please try again" That's been going on for a few days. I can't open the Yahoo! Answers category, I just get "Your criteria doesn't match any questions".

I would find a gun + bullets for a weapon. Try to find food at some grocery stores and possibly find other survivors and try to team up with them, and most importantly... do not get caught by zombies. So basically, what anyone would do when the apocalypse comes.

The end of the world wold not come with bombs, monsters, or nature's angry wrath. If left untended the world would end with a whisper, the decay of morality and our need to be controlled and coddled would spell our doom. There's no escape from the Aldous Huxley nightmare.

Raid the animal shelters and "adopt" any wild/abandoned/loose dogs. Build a huge pack. I will be the pack's Alpha male to be my family's protectors. They will hunt for us and attack any threats that appear on command. Losing a few dogs in attacks & protection is better than losing other people. Also they will be much more loyal to my family than any other humans, who may always turn on you.

i don't know!!

- screams every where day and night non stop

- people and kids crying everywhere non stop day and night

- steal food from store, and from other peoples houses

- find the safest place in your house to sleep, and of course put all the kids in there, and don't let them come out for days even if it's a bathroom, they eat there, sleep there...etc...!

- days without food

- if your house is not safe any more, probably run and try to find another safe place even if you have to force yourself into someone's else house and if you don't let me in, I'LL KILL YOU!!

- steal their food if they have any

- don't stop if you see another person crying, even if they are looking for their kids or are dying, YOU HAVE TO GO! remember????

- the sound of guns, shooting, and bombs, and air planes bombs, machine guns and heavy guns, will be normal to you, just like breathing !

- as will be the sound of people screaming and children crying!

- dead body everywhere, will be normal! probably you will stumble on then a lot when looking for food, or safe places like you stumble on shoes in the middle of the night trying to go the bathroom!

- sleeping will be almost impossible, you will have to rest with the music of machine guns killing other people!

- sleeping with kids crying looking for their mothers....or because they are lost...and NO you can't go there and help them or you die, simple as that!

- just when you start to rest, you'll probably wake up, because a bomb explode, someone else house, and you check that's not yours and you are all alive!

- if by chance rescue come, you'll just go, without looking back, with the few people around you that survived, probably just with the clothes on your body!

- yeah, some people will still be crying, because they don't know where the husbands are, wife, family , their children.....that probably was the kid crying that you couldn't help, because you have to save your own kids...

- no, you'll never forget, or your kids, you will fear/hate the noise of airplanes and fireworks for the rest of your life!

yeah....i think it will be something in these lines!
Oh It Is You Again

Use a 4X4 vehicle, with a roof rack, so that you can tie a canoe and kayak to the roof, find one of the biggest lakes in the country using maps and find an island fairly close to the shore, but not too close, and using your kayak, tie your canoe to the kayak and paddle to the island, leaving the vehicle hidden in the shore. Kayak back and forward with the canoe tied to it so you can put your supplies etc in the canoe and paddle back and forth... A long sharp weapon will be my weapon of choice, followed by a hand gun!

Jesus foretold near human extinction in the last days...

Matthew 24:22 (This is Jesus speaking)...

"And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened."

Jesus is the only way out of this mess.

He himself said he's the only way out...

The period you are talking about is the time of God's full anger poured out on evil that has overtaken the world.

Your kind of jumping to the conclusion that there will be survivors!!! Bad idea! Its good to be prepared for natural disasters and wars and such any good boy scout can tell you that. But the only way to be prepared for the apocalypse described in the bible is to trust your soul into the loving hands of Jesus Christ. The only people who get through that will belong to him.

John 3:16-21 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who BELIEVES in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. “There is no judgment against anyone who BELIEVES in him. But anyone who does not BELIEVE in him has already been judged for not BELIEVING in God’s one and only Son. And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.”

I have two schools of thought on this one. The first one is that I should forsake my life and just evangelize, that is, tell others about God. If I die then I die; If I live then I live. I know many people don’t believe in the Bible but this is my belief: that once the end times come, the time for salvation will be critical. I want to save as many souls as possible for Jesus and the kingdom of heaven.

+ ✡

But aside from that, my second option is to be prepared: spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. Before the catastrophe, in the physical and mental realm, I will make the necessary preparations. This includes:

1) Learning to be self-sufficient. Example: Know how to grow food, life skills, maintenance of house, cars, etc, survival skills, firearms, self-defense.

2) Investing: Being watchful of the signs of the times, investing in index funds and precious metals, diversifying which includes keeping things of value at home, saving money.

3) Stockpiling necessary supplies such as food, water, medicines, emergency appliances, flashlights, etc.

4) Educating my family about the art of survival, where to go, and how.

5) Networking with the community, close friends, and neighbors on emergency procedures and forming alliances?

6) Education: Knowing what to do in case of various disasters such as nuclear, bio, and chemical attack, chaos in the streets, riots, extreme weather, etc and for my family as well. Having a plan.

Spiritually, I will continue to have a close relationship with God. I will continue to read His Word and live by wisdom. I will continue to love everyone and be kind. I will continue to help others and to give to those in need to the best of my ability.

With that said, once the apocalypse comes, I will probably just camp at my residence if it is safe enough and wait it out in the basement (probably). If the government or military orders us to relocate, I will pray to know their intentions and act accordingly.

As with people, if there are stragglers, I will do the best I can, with the means I have, to help. Once I reach my limit, I have two possibilities: One, reject nobody and if I die my family dies, then be with God. In the meantime, evangelize to those under my care but if they refuse, then accept them as they are and still love them. Two: Politely tell those over my quota that I cannot help them. If possible, give them some basic surplus supplies.

If they refuse to leave, I may use force. If looters or violent people come, I have two options. If I hold the advantage, I will have them leave but say a prayer. If I am at a disadvantage, then allow them to come in and serve them and be humble. If the hurt me or my family, then we just have to endure and do our best to love them.

If something horrible happens to my family then I’ll just seek my solace and justice in God.

I have to cover the social areas because these things are likely to happen to anyone. But I will prepare and not let go of my beliefs.

the question posed is moot due to the fact that the scenario will never happen !!! anyone who has read Scripture knows what will happen to this earth, and for those who don't know - God will recreate this earth into a New Earth, along with the creation of a New Heaven !!

I guess I would have to know what type of apocalypse happened. Is it a one time deal everyone died and the ones that are left have to try and make sense of the rubble such as a meteor impact/nuclear war? Or is it a viral outbreak, zombie apocalypse, alien invasion where there is a constant threat all the time? In either instance you will need to have the basics food, water, shelter. Opting to stay in the city and setting up a garden in a urban area would probably prove futile in both circumstances imo. Yes you can have a garden but where are you going to collect you major source of protein? where are you going to get more fertilizer for your garden soil? I sure wouldn't be to happy about trying to survive off pigeons, rats, and squirrels and having to travel great distances to haul loads of dirt/compost. I would try to collect a vehicle with enough fuel to get me to a very underpopulated area preferable in the southern states or west coast where there is plentiful game/farm land and more temperate winters so you wouldn't have to plan on heating so much. Top choices being Oregon/southern Washington (Hoh rain forest), or Louisiana/Mississippi along the coast or in the bayou. Now for the luxuries you will need a source of power. Generators could work if you can make your own fuels. Getting one to run off alcohol, wood-gas, or Bio-diesel are possibilities but having a solar, wind, or hydro electric source with a large battery bank would be more preferable (having all of these would be most preferable). Being near a water source in an area that has plentiful game/aquatic life, mild winters, and good farmland would be enough to survive the first circumstance provided you have some ingenuity. For the second circumstance I would do pretty much the same thing but have to account for force protection along with it. In the case of zombie being in a very underpopulated area will already limit the amount you would have to deal with but to deal with the random stragglers I would have dogs to alert me when one was around. Due to the fact of it being a non renewable resource I wouldn't rely on guns. Making a suit of armor that a zombie couldn't bite through would be my first task.. I never understood with all the zombie movies that someone hasn't just thrown on a set of full chain-mail yet.. Now that you are all but immune to zombie bites taking em out wouldn't be to hard with bludgeoning weapons, bow and arrows, or what ever other creative way you can think of (lets face it you'll have to do something for fun to just stay sane in this world). As far as aliens go that would be a bit harder.. Assuming they have a tech advantage over us already, being put back to the iron age would make it all but impossible to stay alive if you kept fighting them head on (wouldn't be back to the stone age per-say, because with modern knowledge building an furnace/forge would give you the ability to smelt/forge iron). The only option there would be try to hide the fact you are even there at all. you could still practice gardening but I would keep it to local flora that is spread out to make it appear natural.. I would go underground with all my essential tools/equipment and try to find a way to make the use of them with out being detected(filters, mufflers, ect). Try to gather as many survivors as I could and revert to guerrilla tactics. Find out what they are there for and what kills them, maybe salt is like cyanide to them so you float Chinese lanterns over their base that is just trickling salt all over everything for example. Either way find the weakness, exploit it when you can, hide when you cant.

2015-07-10 04:54:29 UTC
Wow. So many people talk about guns and cars or trucks. This tells me that a lot of people have never seriously thought about what things might actually be like in a true "apocalypse."

First off, there won't be any "zombies" or "vampires." What there WILL be is a lot of massive disasters, either natural or manmade, or even a combination of both, since things like nuclear attack or global warming can also trigger natural disasters, like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tornadoes, wildfires, massive hurricanes, floods, "nuclear winter," etc.

Second, while automobiles and guns may be useful in the short term, unless you know how to make your own bullets or gasoline, or have access to an endless supply, then you're eventually going to run out and will need to find alternative ways to defend yourselves and get around. Forget automobiles and gasoline. Almost every station nowadays runs off of electricity and computers. What do you think will happen when the power grid gets knocked out? There will be NO working gas pumps, NO air conditioning, NO way to cook food. Society and everything in it will have to revert back to pre-electricity times, unless enough technicians survive to be able to restart everything. But that, of course, will take time. Even the water we get in our homes is pumped to us using electricity. All that will stop, in the case of a true apocalypse.

Sure, you can raid stores for food and water, but so will every other "survivor" out there. There will be massive chaos, with people killing each other over a single bottle of water or a piece of steak (which they may have no way of storing or cooking, anyway). Guns may be necessary to survive the initial chaos for the simple fact that other people will also have guns, especially the crazed criminal element. However, like I said, bullets will eventually run out. Then what?

The best key to survival is your brain.

No, not for zombies to eat, but so that you can think on your feet and figure out how to do things with whatever you might have on hand that can help you and your friends and families survive. You won't be able to "google" how to do something. You're going to have to figure it out by yourself. Need a bow and arrows or a spear for hunting and self-defense? Unless you study ahead of time to gain the knowledge of how to make them, then it's going to be all trial and error until you make something that actually works.

Food and water will eventually run out in big cities. What will you do then? You will have to learn to improvise. You may have to turn to eating pigeons or rats. Will you be able to do that? How will you cook whatever meat you find or kill? How will you get more water? Remember that in order to survive, you need: Water, Shelter, and Food, in that order. But most importantly, you need to keep your head about you (no panicking!), and be able to improvise with whatever materials you have at hand or can find. Remember that cell phones will be useless......except to maybe take apart and use a reflective surface to help start a fire for cooking. If you or someone you love becomes injured or wounded, you won't be able to call 911 for help. You may have to figure out how to set broken bones, stop bleeding, stitch someone up, and keep wounds from getting infected, yourself. You won't necessarily have access to medications, either.

1stly you need the right materials, polythene is one of the most important in addition to ammonia in order to aid in your growing of food which is free from radioactive elements first deposited as talc over the first few weeks of a nuke war's conclusion, planting your potato seeds once the first frosts of a nuke winter have ended (you'll need to check the weather forecast and have a blanket handy to stave off any late nuke winter frosts) will bring a 1st crop about 12 weeks later (actually it's slightly more complicated see link 1).

Cooking your potatoes means you've got to rediscover how to make fire (link 2)

You'll also need to ensure your water is clean so (link 3)

Next you'll need to think about how to be more at ease with your post entertaining official (and lacking in cohesion and narrative) pre castle life and you do that by keeping your fire burning and putting a small metal bin filled full of wood upside down in it for about half an hour (this should produce your first charcoal) which is almost perfect for making weapons (although not twine) and for recording your actual narrative, mine would begin with my siblings being abused by my evil grandfather, my siblings and I discussing the issue, myself confronting my grooming father, my father killing a child and threatening to kill me, the presentations of shoes (as they contain rubber) to my siblings by my father throughout their child hood (link4), my standing up for my brother when he was spotted wearing a pair of shoes last seen on someone my father murdered (link 5a), coersion, wheedling, intimidations, exploitation, my family accepting by democracy that my father's anger management courses were not needed (he only attended two meetings, my relationship with my family was now over (although it played out over a few decades due to their gross characters accepting a official tommyrot story that was only put in place because of officialdom (link 5 in total) and to save the mass murderer from castration, which if memory serves happened on (see extortion)), extortion (link 5 (b and c)).

This situation will only happen to Christians when we humankind give the Antichrist rulership of this world.

Christians . . . and inevitably Jews will have to flee to the wilderness just to survive the persecution wrought upon them by the rest of the world.

Much calamity will fall upon the world, populations will drop by thirds for every group suffering the main catastrophes. It'll be so bad that people will curse God and run out into the streets wishing for rocks to fall upon them, but death will not find them.

However, even with all of that calamity, it won't be like the apocalyptic world we see on tv. It'll be a situation where there are still plenty plenty of people, and they are all suffering horrendously.

Imagine suffering an extended apocalypse where most people on earth survive. The suffering and calamities are just like you'd expect in an apocalypse, but most people all over earth are surviving . . . barely, but surviving nonetheless.

You see, in our movies and tv shows, we imagine a world where humankind has been reduced to like a 10th or less of what it is now. And in that sparse population, there is relief in that there are not others around. In that sparseness, we are largely relieved of the wickedness of people who not only have no conscience, but actually hate God and wish to harm others to get some kind of vengeance upon God.

However, we are not going to have a sparse population. We are going to have a tremendous population, and even with blood up to a horse's saddle with the number of people who have died, most will still be surviving and suffering all of it, and all of their anger, bitterness, and hatred of God for the situation they have put themselves into will be so great that there will be no relief from a sparse population, but rather a still very large, very concentrated population of evil vindictive humans who not only don't care what God says about love and forgiveness, but wish to do the opposite and make other suffer so that they can feel some kind of vengeance exacted upon God for the situation we all will have put ourselves into.

The only people who will have any kind of peace and relief from all of that will be those who fled to the wilderness to escape the deadly persecution inflicted upon them by the rest of the world.

The only time that peace will be interrupted will be when governmental forces find them and round them up to torture them, threatening them with death and suffering if they do not reject Christ and accept the mark.

But even their suffering, which will be horrendous at the hands of the world that has rejected them will not be as bad as it is for the rest of the world, for it will be relatively short-lived suffering in a controlled environment at the hands of men and women ruled by Satan with a specific focused effort to get them to reject Christ and accept the mark of the beast. The mark of the beast is in order to seal their fate so that they can't cry out to Christ for forgiveness and come back to Him.

It's not known how Satan will facilitate the mark being the seal to their fate and continued rejection of Christ, but we do know from Christ's own mouth that the only unforgivable sin is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. However, it's not even clear what blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is, so ignorance probably spares us from certain damnation, but you can guarantee Satan sure knows what it is.

This may even happen within our lifetimes. I expect it will happen within our parent's lifetimes.

But take heart, it will only last 7 years, 3.5 of which will be the most brutal and inhumane period. The first 3.5 years will likely not be as much suffering, but more so preparation for the last half so that Satan can actually feasibly have the power to actually rule over the whole earth and control people so succinctly enough to actually be able to root-out and find Christians and would-be Christians.

Christ will come at the end and put an end to the Antichrist's rule before he or she manages to destroy all breathing life. The Jews will cry out "blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord," thereby finally signifying their recognition of their Messiah that came in the name of the Father, and their rejection of the false Messiah who came in his own name that they had originally accepted as their Messiah.
