So im currently enrolled at UTI,which is a automotive school and ive been considering joining the military for a very long time, ok a few years, im 18years old and a female. i was wondering which branch do you think would be the best. i was honestly considering the marines, or airforce (huge difference yes i know) but id love to be a helicopter mechanic. alot of my friends which were all in the military tell me not to go, then again one of them lost 4 friends and all the feeling in his arms due to a IED. anyway,

im just honestly wondering peoples opinion on it. which branch, the benefits, even the asvab and which scores are the best,
i took a practice one back in my senior year of highschool when i was talking to the navy, i scored a 81. but that was only practice and it didnt count for anything,
anway
just opinions,
thank you in advance and i will choose best answer.

Join the Air Force. I spent 20 years in as a computer operator/supervisor and loved almost every minute.

Now it's even better than when I was in. The single accommodations have been upgraded in the last 10 years or so to have one person per room. The job training you'll get is some of the best anywhere. The benefits are the same no matter what branch of the military you join. The Air Force is less military than the Marines or Army.

There are study guides for the ASVAB you can check out from the library or buy that have practice tests. The better the score on the ASVAB the better the jobs you're eligible for. After seeing what you're qualified for you may not even want to get your fingernails dirty anymore.

Diet and exercise. What you need to be able to do in basic training.

Join the Air Force or the Navy... I was in the Marines... I had to work twice as hard and still got less respect, like someone above me posted I got called "WM" like it was my name and I'm not that kind of person... in the Marines you're either a bytch or a slut or both, go to the Air Force or the Navy they learn a lot more about Aircraft of different kinds and you'll get treated better trust me, I had to spend a day on a Air Force base for training and I didn't want to leave... those guys have respect for everybody... Male Marines only respect Male Marines and being that they make up 95% of the Corps there's nothing that the women Marines can do about it (I know I'm going to get a bunch of thumbs down from the guys but its the truth that they don't want anyone to know) I loved my job, being a Marine was great and if it wasn't for the actions of some pigheaded idiots I would've considered staying in. You learn a lot and you can go all over the country and the world if you play your cards right, since it'll be your day to day life for 4 years you'll have to consider everything not just benefits

I was a CH-53E mechanic for five years in the Marines and absolutely loved it. Also the number of personnel that do not work on aircraft in the Air Force is staggering so buyer beware. But if you want to do helicopter mechanic or something of that nature the best they can do for you in the Marines is guarantee you a field or MOS if you will i was locked in for the 6000 field which is aviation maintenance or related i was lucky to get a job that i loved. So basically i am advocating for the Marines the discipline needed to be an aviation mechanic or a good one i should say will be easily acquired in the Marines. If you have never worked on planes than you probably don't know what i mean by discipline being required to work on planes. If you have any questions than feel free to e-mail me. And Good Luck no matter which path you choose to follow.

P.S. This is the plane i worked on just a cool video to get you motivated. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=9144967&searchid=0aa26ee7-f150-4740-a248-f56f31fdb6d6

Do not join Marines, I hear female Marines here are called WM-Walking Mattresses. 2nd Air force is more for education and piloting, and repairing. Marines have that but the air force focus on that more. Lastly, just don't join Marines. They scrap everything even when they don't have the materials, such as tieing with ropes or etc. Its retarded and that's how people get hurt. Marines also don't get much money so their equipments are basically always trashed. Military is made for the dumbest people to survive, you might hate military life because you lose freedom to choose to come to work or not. You have to listen to freaken assholes who could be wrong just cause they are higher rank. Its ridiculous sometimes. Always always, go officer side if you are to go military. You'd think working hard and smart will get you places, but sometimes not here...people that can suck up gets rewarded more. If I were to have a choice, I would go back civillian but you should know you are signning 4 years of your life and freedom, in addition 4 years active reserve which they can pull you back to serve longer, which they will for your job. I'm providing you all the negatives because people put positives up in your face. any questions ask me about it.

Go Coast Guard. It will definitely help you get the feeling that you helped someone. Besides, Marine and Air Force mechanics are trained in only one specialty while the Coast Guard trains you in several fields since they have a less people.

If you want to work on helicopters,

Then you need to join the Army.

They have 1,800 helicopters.

Benefits are the same, for every service, pay is the same.
