This guy at work doesn't fold the flag at all, he crumbles it up. Is it wrong of me to leave a print out?

Why don't you accompany him one day when he's lowering the flag, and show how to properly fold it. If you're really concerned, then don't hide behind a print out.

IT'S ONLY A PIECE OF CLOTH!

I fought in Vietnam from Jan, 1968 to Jun, 1969

I fought for my country, the flag is simply a symbol of this great country.

We have already lost our identity when our government failed this country by allowing poison sprayed on US. Covering it up and allowing those at Dow Corning/Chemical to get away with it.

Were was your outrage then? I couldn't tell anyone I was a VV because it always led to a fight.

It took 30 years fighting the VA and my so-called representatives to get dollar one for my health problems associated with Agent Orange.

Don't get so riled over a flag, get mad at those responsible for allowing crap behavior within our borders. People immigrating here and then USE and ABUSE our generous system against US.

How long would a football team last called the "Washington Blackskins"?

But our native americans mean nothing.

Sorry for the rant, feelin' bad and pissed off at the world.

YES, its wrong for the person in charge to allow an idiot to handle this symbol of our country.

I'm gonna agree with pompanopete0 on this one...although, you could offer to help him next time if you feel strongly about it.

A flag is a token...it is the stuff behind it that matters.

On a practical note, the flag will last longer if it is folded rather than thrown in a ball. I am a cheapskate, so I take that kind of stuff into account. LOL

I would go ahead and do it.

If he does not get the hint, you could take on the responsibility.

Note - It does take 2 people to fold the flag properly (maybe you could offer to help).

If you really want to address the problems in terms your company will understand, then let them know that properly folding the flag will make the material last longer. The flag won't get tattered and develop holes if you fold it properly. By crumpling up the flag, the guy is creating creases and putting stress on the fabric.

Most americans don't know flag etiquette, it isn't taught anywhere. It is proper, and respectful to fold the flag properly.

Folding the flag in the way that we do came about in order to ensure that the flag material would last, and not get damaged in storage.

Be proactive. The next time he brings in the flag, walk over with a smile and say, "here, let me show you how that's done." Of course, you run the risk of permanently adding to your work load another to do.

As a member of the US Army, I suggest to you to go up to him and tell him that he should fold his flag. The US Flag deserves to be treated with respect and not crumbled up. Make sure he fold the flag.

All citizens should know correct flag handling. I do not know all the details, but I do know to never let the flag touch the ground and to always fold it neatly and put it in a clean storage container when it is not being used. Perhaps this person has never known how to handle the flag. Why is this person raising and lowering the flag instead of one of the ex-military members of your company. Talk to your boss about this problem.

I don't think it is quite necessary to fold the flag correctly everyday, but just to crumple it up in a ball seems rather disrespectful.....perhaps a simple fold as you would a bath towel, would be better. There are no laws governing treatment of the flag, only guidelines.

I would deal with it directly...

You can say... with honestly.. that many people believe not treating the flag with respect - is a sign of "disrespecting the flag".

He may simply not be aware of the traditions.

Also - if you don't like the way it's done... you might volunteer for that duty.

If you had ever read Title 4 of US Code you would know just how foolish your question is.

There is not now nor has there ever been any statement in Title 4 about folding the Flag. NEVER!

The folding is done as a ceremony at funerals...that's it. So many have made up their own rules on how to that it is done it is F ING ridiculous. The most egregious is the cartridges being placed in the Flag. Title 4 does say that should NOT be done.

When a Flag is taken down it is perfectly OK to roll it up and bag it, put it in a box or carry it inside and place it in a closet.

READ the links and save your complaints for things that people do that are in fact out of sink with law.

SSG US Army 73-82

Have read this and the Constitution more than once!

Today's reading of the Constitution will be Article III.....and until you look that up will will be in the dark about WHY I would read that today. I will give you a clue...NYC!

The Flag is the symbol of a living country and is therefore considered to be alive itself!

For all you fans of Flowmaster mufflers for high performance they have a small display in their Santa Rosa lobby with a rubber lizard in a terrarium with a cut up portion of a Flag on the bottom like old newspaper as if to collect lizard $h!t. Call them and make a complaint, they have never listened to me.

Edit: Pomp....is so right. Illegals getting medical care is an example of WHY you all should be pissed as all hell at the concepts of liberals. US codes specifically states, and and does right now, that they don't get it and have to be sent back to country of origin. ONE, just ONE liberal Federal Judge declared that unconstitutional, ONE F ING MAN and his ONE opinion is all it took to overrule the Congress and the President that signed the law.

THINK ABOUT THAT THE NEXT TIME YOU CAST A VOTE!

Edit2: It is sad that so many cannot see the difference between MYTH and law, right and wrong, made up customs that violate law.

Note that "folding" is not mentioned

TITLE 4--FLAG AND SEAL, SEAT OF GOVERNMENT, AND THE STATES

CHAPTER 1--THE FLAG

Sec. 8. Respect for flag

No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of

America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing.

Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags

are to be dipped as a mark of honor.

(a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except

as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or

property.

(b) The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the

ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.

(c) The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but

always aloft and free.

(d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or

drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but

always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always

arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red

below, should be used for covering a speaker's desk, draping the front

of the platform, and for decoration in general.

(e) The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in

such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in

any way.

(f) The flag should never be used as a covering for a ceiling.

(g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of

it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design,

picture, or drawing of any nature.

(h) The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving,

holding, carrying, or delivering anything.

(i) The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any

manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as

cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed

on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use

and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or

halyard from which the flag is flown.

(j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic

uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military

personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations.

The flag represents a

living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the

lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near

the heart.

(k) The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a

fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way,

preferably by burning.

Do I have to fold my flag in the triangular fold for storage between use?

No, for storage purposes, you may use the ordinary rectangular fold and, perhaps, place your flag in a plastic bag. If the flag is affixed to a staff, you may roll the flag around the staff for storage. The triangular fold is not required, but is traditional for display of the flag, often placed in a rectangular wooden display box. Instructions for the triangular fold as provided at the top of this page. Before folding the flag, either way, be sure it is dry and clean.

Any valued flag may be displayed in the triangular box. It is not exclusively for display of funeral flags. For example, if you were to get a flag that flew over the White House, you could display that in the triangular box
