Communist / North <==> US / South

Now it's:

Iran / Shiites in Iraq <==> US / Sunnis in Iraq

Thoughts?

One of many parallels.

Another: in Nam we installed a corrupt government that ran death squads, under Nem Diem Theu... very similar to the government we have installed in Iraq, full of secret agendas and black hand operations, some directed against our own forces.

Interesting idea!

We need to split Iraq into 3 countries (Sunni, Shiite, Kurd) and and only stay there to protect the Sunnis from the Iranians.

The parallel of our participation in VN and our participation in Iraq are at best minimally comparable. The biggest comparison is that both are quagmires and to prevail would take more time and resources than the American people are willing to give. The merits are debatable, the motives are debatable, the outcomes will most likely be similar.

And to the responder: To say we weren't fighting Communist governments in VN is ludicrous. The Communist Party ruled North VN, their biggest supporters/suppliers were the USSR, ruled by their Communist party and the Chinese, ruled by their Communist party. Maybe you feel the "purity" of the government methods don't meet some idealized definition of Communism is just silly word games. All those nations had a form of Communist government that incorporated forms of Socialism. Using the same methodology it can be said the U.S is not a democracy. We use a representative democracy instead of a pure democracy. So what? A rose by any other name...

Iran / Shiites in Iraq <==> US / Sunnis in Iraq

I'm sorry where did this come from? I'm aware there has been a "civil war" going on, I didn't think we had taken one side or the other. Not a slam of your statement I just am unaware of it.

Uh, no. It is:

Iran / Shiites in Iraq <==> US / Sunnis, Shiites & Kurds in Iraq, essentially 'US/Iraq'. We're not at war with Iran, although perhaps we should be.

The only parallel that you can draw between this conflict and the war in Vietnam is the fact that our military has had it's hands tied by Washington for purely political reasons. Oh, and that liberals are trying their darnest to lose this one too. Can't forget that one.

Why might south vietnam combat individuals, because of the fact that they ask the individuals to help them give up the north vietnamese from invading ? approximately 3 million north vietnamese have been killed, particularly all defense force, the US did no longer dom operations contained in the north, different than bombing and did no longer bomb villages Approx 2 million south vietnamese have been killed - approximately a million squaddies and yet another million civilians The north vietnamese and viet cong killed the civilians

♣ the situation is more bizarre!

Al-Qaeda + Saddam Sunnis ↔ US + Arab liberals + Kurds ↔ Iran + Shiites.

And no sincere allies, unlike in VN.

Just wanted to inform you that there has never been a Communist Country. The Countries that were believed to be Communist were really Socialist Countries.
