You need to be in the army already for sas.

Have a good look here to see what suits you.

I always fancied the Royal Engineers but a knee injury I got while playing rugby means that I can't pass the fitness test.

12 years ago now I was playing in a 7's tournament and some fat git landed on the side of my lower leg separating my knee joint. Still gets sore now if I don't keep moving it.

I suggest you choose a non contact sport. Badminton is good and cheap to play.

Okay first off I'm American so rules and reg.s may be different however you can't just join SAS you must build a name for yourself either with your recruit training instructor or apply after you get some years under your belt you don't want to jump in a jungle unless you know what your getting into I suggest you enlist infantry or a combat oriented MO and also no sport can get you into proper shape for the military however most requirements are not that difficult

-45 pushups in 1.5 min

-45 sit-ups in 1.5 min

-1.5 miles in under 9 min

-8 pull ups in 5 min

So the rewuirements aren't as difficult as some may say however if you want to join SAS surpass the requirements by atleast 1.5x this will ensure the instructors will remember your name

what kind of qualifications do you have?

Even a few GCSE's can qualify you for a technical role (which includes higher pay among other bonuses) every job has combat roles so dont think because your a radio operator you just operate radios, everyone from cooks to drivers have to go on foot patrol etc and recieve the same phase 1 training.

What interests you?

Driving? Cooking? ICT?

Try looking on the Army Jobs finder on the army jobs website and see what job is right for you.

Hope this helps.

you could go into any branch of the armed forces, and you do not need to join a fighting regiment to serve your country. Take a look at the Army website it will tell you entry requirments, jobs that are done by soldiers and will help with PT regimes, I joined as a junior leader when i was 16 but it took nearly a year to go through the enlistment procedure so start your prep for going now.

Bit of research first mate - Royal Marines are not part of the army, they are part of the Naval Service.

Fair play for having a goal but make sure you get all the info about what you're getting into.

First of all ask yourself what you would like to do, jobwise. Because like in civvy streets you can choose beween different jobs, like mentioned above (chef, PTI, engineer, mechanic etc) Is there anything that interests you? Fitness is of course important, too especially for the Marines and that. If you wanna join them you will need to be 200% fit. SAS will be out of question to start with, they are a league of their own, if you like.

You can keep fit by running, circle fitness, weight lifting.....all sorts really.

Hello again Jack.

Well you'd need to do basic army training before you go into anything else, its a must

and im 100% sure you'll find out what to do once youve completed that.

But when the time comes and you're still confused think about what fighting environments and what missions you would want to do,

Football, rugby, swimming, boxing. You can't start off in the SAS they usually pick people from the paratroopers, that's the closest thing to SAS

at 15 years of age i would join the army cadets in your area, this will give you a very good idea to what you need to join the british army at 18 years of age which is when you are legally of age to join the army. the cadets do go to a proper army camp and you will go on manoeuvres like the real army which will give you a taste of things to come ok good luck

Stay in school, get good grades, get/stay fit on all levels, avoid drink/drugs/rubbish mates and maintain a healthy attitude.

Easy peasy :)

Good luck, Jack.

fitness: running and martial arts are the two best activities to get fit for Military service. Talk to a recruiter they will advise you of all the possible military specialties that might interest you.
