In the movie "we were soldiers" they make a call called (broken arrow) can someone tell me what this really means?

Sum it up if you didn't see the movie. Broken arrow is a code used in the army i guess.

"Broken Arrow" was the Code word that a Unit was about to get Over Run...

So every Aircraft there was head for that Spot...

Aircraft have a way of really screwing up the Enemies plans...

But with all War plans...instead of already having over powering

air/arty support a lot of Troops had to die first...

Before it was called in...released by the REMF Officers...

In the Vietnam war a "Broken Arrow" referred to situation when a position was either overrun or endanger of being overrun by the enemy. It was used to call in all available air support to a position.

Since then it has referred to the loss of nuclear grade weapons or materials when there is not an immediate risk of detonation.

It was code for bombing your own positions because your about to get overrun, the word" Broken arrow" was only used a couple of times in real life but it turned into kinda a kickname name for that.

(military) An accidental event that involves nuclear weapons or nuclear components but does not create the risk of nuclear war; a code phrase that a ground unit is facing imminent destruction from enemy attack and all available air forces within range are to provide air support immediately

It was simply a made up code for a order, in this case it was a defensive air strike. The same as Fall Back is a code used as a order. This one was just used in the move, maybe somewhere in real life but who knows
