i read on yahoo about some new army rules concerning weight how they give you a test, and give you a weight waiver and you have a year to get off the weight.the reason i was wondering is my body fat is very high(39%)
but i can do a lot of stuff,i cant seem to lose weight but im no couch potato, and i was wondering if the new rules are only for people a little over(27-28% for example)because ive never understood why if i can pass the tests why i cant join and im wondering if this is my chance.

I would go talk to a recruiter. Whats the worse they can say...no right? lol And you've already been told that before it sounds.

If you can pass the test they might let you go through. Also maybe the logic is that people who are already active will lose the weight during basic training etc.

The body fat rules are in place to ensure that only people with a high likelihood of surviving/completing BCT are allowed to enlist.

Your best and only bet, is to talk with an Army recruiter and get the latest information about body fat limits and ask if he/she will assist you in an exercise program designed to reduce your body fat content, WITHOUT increasing your muscle weight.

You also need to take a serious look at your current dietary and exercise habits. Cut out all the extra helpings, fried foods and desserts and begin walking more than the minimum necessary to get from bed to bath to TV to the fridge.

It won't necessarily be easy, but your body will thank you for it.

On Yahoo this morning - the article states that the Army is looking for football type overweight people to enlist - not the "couch potato" person that is physically weak...

It does not give exact weights however to enter into service.

This rule is for people such as a 6'5", 265# USAF Officer friend of mine. He was an All-American in CFB at Washington State. He was an excellent officer. He was involuntarily discharged for not being in compliance with USAF height/weight restrictions. He was remarkably fit and massively strong...yet he was discharged for arbitrary and capricious reasons.

This is not for any old wide-body, but for athletes and others who are not in compliance, yet have extremely low body faqt.

I checked it out. Yes, you can join but you gotta be able to the pushups and other physical tests. You then have a year to bring down your weight to the proper limits.

If you don't then they send you to Iraq. The soldiers there need something big to stand behind. That should be all the encouragement you need to lose weight.

They will accept some who are a little over weight but they will spend extra weeks in Basic training on what they call a PC group. That means physical conditioning until they reach a satisfactory weight and condition.
