Team Building Exercises ,Showers, Public Speaking. I would just like to hear some pointers, and maybe some stories of experience on how others dealt with it. Thank You.

About 10 years ago, I was on my way to Army Basic Training in some unknown place in Alabama. I remember getting off the bus and giggling as yellin drill sergeants greeted me by making me hold all of my bags (for some reasons I packed tons of cute outfits, underwear, and jewelry) out in front of me for about an hour. I wanted to go home every day of boot camp for about a month.

I do not believe one day went by when I didnt cry and wish to be home! Letters from home helped me get through this scary time and INTESTINAL FORTITUDE. I was too afraid of failing to be anxious.

I agree with Burt C. Keep quiet, listen closely, do what you are told to do exactly the way you are told to do it, be a team player, and always give 100%. And, above all, don't take it personally. Everything is done for a good reason, and anxiety is a normal part of the experience.

Navy boot camp is nothing like Full Metal Jacket. It is the Navy not the Marines.

No public speaking but lots of running..Make sure you can run a 1.5 mile in less than 10 minutes. Float in the water for 5 minutes, and be able to eat fast. So practice. Follow instruccion and PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS...<-----that is the key to survive Navy boot camp.

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.

But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them!

Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to....

Don't worry about it. I am anxious about going this December also. It's normal and in no time you will be thinking I was such a P***Y to be so scared.

Ohh Burt C your attention to detail is lackadaisical. You spelt instruction wrong.

Take a bong hit. Oh wait, you don't want them finding out about that. Uhhh.. yea, I'm out of ideas already. =)

In all seriousness though, there probably isn't anything you can do about it. If you weren't anxious or stressed out about it, you wouldn't be normal. Good luck to you man! May the force be with you.

Find a battle buddy and do "everything" together in boot camp to include taking showers! :)
