How are U.S. Navy officers treated/seen as in Japan?

Question

Are American sailors welcomed in Japan? Like American commissioned officers, Ensigns/midshipman/ltjg/lt/lt. commanders etc....not enlisted sailors, what about American Cadets from military colleges/academies(usma, usna, norwich, vmi) studying abroad? (more educated, polite) Asian officers? White officers? Black officers? Any different treatment?
What do Japanese people see when they see an American navy officer? What reactions/questions/comments should I expect from them? If I walk in a bar(or any place) with a JSDF sailor? Do they dislike them? hate them? welcome them?
Because I understand how the Okinawans don't like sailors after the rape thing
Do they see American soldiers/marines/sailors as rude, drunk, crazy people?
Personally I don't drink or smoke, I am polite
In addition, if I walk into some palce in a navy dress uniform what would their reaction be? If I introduced myself as an officer of u.s. navy?

they have NO idea what the baubles on your uniform means and really could care less if you are Enlisted, Officer or even a Civilian on contract. they will be singularly UNimpressed if you walk around Saying : Ohayo Gozaimous I am a US Naval Officer.



and who says you will get Liberty?! if you are CDO you ain't going to my favorite Gyoza shop in Yokohama. oh, and the Uniform WILL NOT be worn on town on liberty. slacks( no jeans) and collared shirts.



What makes you think they will even NOTICE YOU AT ALL?!

When I was flying out of Japan 40 years ago none of the locals gave a rat's a$$ except one night when we accidentally went into the local Red Army hangout...



Being Asian it could be fun. We had a full-blooded Japanese-American from Arkansas in my squadron who could not read, write or speak anything but "Arkie." Also in my squadron we had a half-Japanese, Half-Hispanic kid who was about 6'3" tall, looked full-Hispanic and could not only speak fluent Japanese, but could even read and write Kanji.



They used to go out in town together to mess with the locals. The locals would see the two of them and immediately start speaking Japanese to the guy who looked obviously Japanese, but the other kid would answer. The confused reactions of the locals was hilarious.



Japanese are universally decent folks and you should not have any issues unless you just act in an overwhelmingly stupid way.

You will NOT be wearing your uniform while out with friends in a liberty port. You WILL be in civilian clothes unless you are doing something official (ie ceremony).



You would be treated like everyone else out there who is visiting or living in Japan. Why would you be hated? There are US military bases there with THOUSANDS of personnel who are from all backgrounds.
