Well you have to think of the pros and cons of each....
US Marine is a honorable "job" but it takes you away from your loved ones and you most likely be going to the middle east with the possibility of not come back alive If its in your heart it is what you want to do and you will be truly happy serving your country, having a job with a cause
A contractor is a good job too. If you like to work outdoors building things and if you work on your own you can make decent money or even have our own company but contracting isn't always a consisten job you have to work around the weather unless you are working indoors. But contracting eventually takes a toll on your body with the Marines you can do it until you retire.

You could do both.A home builder can be a very risky venture. You only have a short time to get a house sold before the bank starts wanting their money.
Once a Marine always a Marine. They train hard and are in the line of fire a lot.The Marine corp could give you a lot of the things you will need to be successful in any business.

No one can say what you will and wont enjoy.
Try em both - join the marines reserves while pursuing the housing contractor job. Work out which is best and then go full time on your final choice...

Go for the Navy! SeeBees will give you the training you need to be a contractor and you'll make some pretty sweet bucks while your learning. My grandson is in now for 10 years and makes more money than I do! Screw the Marines, minimal training and maximum risk. Who needs that crap? Huh?

Try a two year stint with the corp if that is where your heart is. If you don't like it get out. If it grows on you and you like it, you can reup and put in 20 years to retire. Becoming a contractor is always an option and trade that will always be there.

Personally, I would join the military. Military education and experience can open doors to many careers, you'll be surprised. Plus, I highly respect people who serve.
But if your forte is contracting, then maybe housing contractor is the job for you.

I think you have to be a Marine before you can be a Construction Contractor. Contracting is a seriously tough profession. You have to do actual work and if someone pi$$es you off, you can't shoot them.

The education in the military is priceless, but being X-Air Force, I would point you in that direction. You are young enough to have both, though I doubt playing "carpenter", after getting some military training, will be your final choice.

Join the military and let them teach you how to be a housing contractor - yup, I see you're a girl - so what?

what does your dream take you? US Marines is a noble job, while housing contractor is just a profession which you probably won't enjoy.
