The U.S. army does not sell surplus vehicles to the public of any type. There are vehicles reserved for fire, ems, police to request through their state- most of these were beat up by national guardsmen and almost none of them are street legal. Some of the military models out there are acquired through back room deals using this method. The Monesson Fire Dept near Pittsburgh, Pa has a hummer, and a RIb boat which they got through this method. The civilian model- the H1 has been discontinued but is generally much easier to come by (they even have ignition keys instead of the standard toggle switch, wire, and master lock.

Soft tops are much easier to get than up-armoreds. This website is a cool one to check out: http://www.army4x4.com/ every now and then you'll see fixer-uppers on ebay motors or other auction sites but you have to check back often and they sometimes go for far more than they're worth. I looked at this a few years ago and ended up going with the H2 SUT- very happy with it but its basically a tahoe with a hummer shell- nothing at all like what i drive in the army. Hope that helps and Good Luck!

The Navy has a yard in California for stuff like this , I think in San Diego open to public for auctions.

It may still be called DRMO , been there once. There's one in Jacksonville , Fla. too. Lots of Marine and Navy vehicles .
