Well according to the Right wing nuts on Yahoo, any gun is legal. I think in your case since it is considered a collectors item and of historical value so probably is legal to own but you probably have to make it un-unusable as a weapon. I sold antiques and had a cannon that had to be "plugged" in order to sell it. You could ask police but they probably have no clue. Good luck!

As far as I know, hand cranked Gatling guns are legal and originals are usually classed as curios and relics. If it's motor driven, it's a fully automatic weapon and falls under the National Firearms Act of 1934 restrictions.

I seriously believe that you're mistaken. I'm pretty sure it's not a Gatling gun. If it's a working machine gun, you need to have the proper license, which is not that easy to get. You'd may be better off donating it to a museum or something.

Sorry about your Grandfather passing away.

I think it WOULD, because cranking devices are mechanical.A gatling gun is not select fire, it can only fire as you can work the crank. Just as there is no law against having the dexterity in you finger to fire all chambers of a revolver cylinder at lightning speed.

Yes, it is legal to own but it will be considered a machine gun and as such, you will have to pay a 200 dollar license fee to the Feds. If it is disabled, it might be considered an antique. Check with a local gun shop to find out for sure. Also, depending on your location, your local political masters might object to you owning it or any gun.

All else fail, call the ATF. I would use a pay phone so they wouldn't necessarily have your name and phone number in case you might not want to be traced.

Well...

Gatling guns werent used in WWII.

But Some laws let you own "grandfathered weapons"...

Check local laws.

Gatling guns were not used in WW2.

that's awesome

but since like machine guns such as m-16's are illegal, logically, Gatling guns would be too.

idk, might want to google it?

If it has not been disabled and can fire yes it is a federal offense to own a working fully automatic weapon no exceptions.

Don't tell anyone. Ask a local and trusted gun dealer what the law is locally.

since its so old probably yes cause it could be considered military memorabilia, it is not a machine gun, 1 crank of the lever is one shot, a machine gun fire repeatability with one pull of a trigger, but you still wanna check your state laws
