So my brother is currently over in afghanistan and unfortunately he's celebrating the big 2-1 over there. His deployment ends in 2 and a half months but I still want to give him something of course to hopefully keep him cheered up and not to down about not being home for the occasion. As soon as he gets home of course I'll take him out for a real 21st celebration. However, I talked to him today and I asked him if he wanted or needed anything specific and he just said "no don't worry about it", but I'm not taking that as an answer. I'm not entirely sure what he can use over there, I know the basic "no alcohol, no porn, etc" deal, but what else can I get for him? I just wanna put together something nice that he'll like. I definitely wanted to send him over his eagles jersey he's been wanting since last year, because football season is coming up and I think he'd really like it. So what other things can I throw in? I was thinking maybe a scrapbook, but I don't know if that's lame or what not haha.

I probably sound really dumb right now, but bear with me. I just need some ideas and help putting this together. I promised him I'd send him one while he was away and I just haven't done it and I definitely want/need to. So any ideas and tip would be super helpful!

scrap book idea is good but you MUST remember that he will have to hump all that stuff back with him, when space and weight is at a PREMIUM.

So think birthday, think silly....................I would hit the local dollar store and get silly hats, paper cups, plates napkins enough for him a good few of his mates to enjoy...........and fill the box with some food goodies [don't go over board just enough so he can be silly for a few moments on HIS day..........I also would put in a balloon [helium one already blown up] that is at the top of the box when he opens it.............think of it like a mini party in a box...............maybe have a few of the stupid stiff from the dollar store in the toys section that they can mess about with and then just toss away with NO worries, so he gets to have fun on his day, he does not have to worry about how the heck he is going to get it back home.

When I did these type of boxes for my son I would write in the letter inside the box that it did NOT matter about keeping it, just have fun and be silly................but that I would like a few pictures.

I did a birthday in a box, did a superbowl in a box, halloween in a box, etc etc ALWAYS with enough for at least 8 people to share..............told him to share, enjoy, take a picture or two for us and either save it for the next lot....or dump it with out worrying that I was going to be upset or offended............the ONLY thing I ever asked him to hold on to was a Christmas hat that lit up and played songs [cost me a fortune] and he does still have the hat.............

edit oh I do like NWIP's ideas, would just be concerned about the whole weight of him bringing it BACK, but that one sounds great.......

He is turning 21 so wrap up 21 gifts all with some different meaning that he has to open in a certain order. Do a small photo album he can put in his pocket with pictures of friends, the neighborhood, etc...; a gift card to a favorite restaurant; a gift card for iTunes or games; a gift card for a movie theater; new socks (sounds silly but appreciated); spices; silly putty or playdough; a nerf or water gun; some instant drink packages; and the list continues until he gets to the final one which is a promissary note for you to take him out and buy him his first drink.

ETA: it can be little things that won't be too heavy or he might pass on to someone who is staying there. Also if he likes the Eagles then do a small thing like sticker or tickets to a game or a voucher for a ticket

Not really sure... But maybe if you could send food? T shirt? Maybe advil? Gum? Sunglasses? Comfy pillow? Something to keep cool like a electric fan with batteries?

I'm probably going to sound like an idiot because I have no clue what you are allowed to send, but good luck. Also tell your brother I (random person on yahoo) said thanks for serving our country.

I can't answer this because I don't know your brother, but just think of the things he likes. If he likes a band send him a shirt, if he likes a type of sport send him something similar. If you were him, what would you like?
