Importance on a proper Leave address on a chit in the us navy? Im looking for an instruction! Please help?

I looked all through the leave instruction but could find nothing on why it is important to have a correct leave address. I need to know where in the regs it says specifically that you must leave a good address and contact phone number on a leave chit. I checked MILPERSMAN 1050 and DOD INST 1327.06 and neither of those says anything about properly filling out leave papers and making sure of a correct address or phone number when going on regular leave

you must be able to be contacted while on leave in case of recall.



if the contact info was invalid then he was in Violation of the Catch all general order of the UCMJ.

The Privacy Act section says that if you fail to put a valid leave address, your leave request is supposed to be summarily denied. Also, since your signature is on there, that makes it an official form - and if you lie on it, you CAN be (not mandatory, but you CAN be) charged under submitting a False Official Statement.



In addition to this, if you are looking to go to a foreign country, most countries need special permission to enter - and if you fail to get it, you can be charged with Failure to Obey a Superior Officer or Failure to Obey a Lawful Order.



Then, to top it all, if you get hurt while in a foreign country that you have no specific approval to visit, you can be held liable for any and all medical treatment you need... AND, if the unit calls to recall you and you can't be reached, you can be charged for the appropriate cites.



And like MRS JVB said, that wonderful clause in Article 134 can be added to the whole mess.

You can put your home address and phone number, in the local area. That is sufficient.

Doesn't mean you have to be there all the time you are on leave. Just periodically check for messages.

They just need to be able to contact you, should the need arise. If you have a cell phone put that number and have the phone with you.

I always put my home address and phone number, knowing I was not going to be there.

Told them if you need me, send a Park Ranger and search party somewhere in the Badlands.

Common sence should tell you why ! What happens if the ship needs to get underway ? You must have a valid adress and phone number for recall.
