From what i remember, there was a failure or breakdown at NORAD, FAA, and direct communication with our Commander-in-Chief, who was ultimately responsible for giving the order to take a commercial airliner out.



There were 2 F-16s scrambled out of Elmendorf AFB in Alaska that nearly took down a Korean ailiner after it began emitting hi-jack-in-progress signals....it was eventually diverted to a Canadian strip. In that incident, the NORAD commander nearly gave the command to 'lose the liner in the sun' (as they say....pilots having a funny sense of humor).



But getting back to the east coast, there were jets scrambled after-the-fact.

They were scrambled, and the tapes of the conversations between the pilots and their controllers was made public about two weeks ago and published in just about every news media globally.



It was certainly in all the UK newspapers, both left and right wing ones.



The facts are that an organisation called NORAD is responsible for the air defence of the United States and Canada, and at the time of 9/11 the threat assesment of attack by the air was very low.



Therefore there were only four fighter aircraft on the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S ready and "gunned up" to scramble and meet a potential threat.



Standard operating procedures were designed to combat the Russians and so if those jets were scrambled they would head out east over the Atlantic to prepared intercept points, which is exactly what they did when they were finally sent up.



Quite simply 9/11 took everyone by surprise and there were key events that delayed the fighter action.



One of the first things the hijackers did was to turn off the aircraft transponders, which means that a civilian aircraft simply disapears off the air traffic control screens.



The skies over the USA are filled with thousands of aircraft every day and therefore without a transponder signal to identify it you literally have a needle in a haystack.



So the planes were sent up but vectoring them onto the hijacked aircraft was virtually impossible in the case of the two which hit New York.



When it became apparent what was happening they were vectored to Washington (incorrectly to the White House initially) but even at full power they had a lot of ground to make up. Don't forget that airliners at full power are not exactly slow. I have been on a 747 with a tailwind doing over 650 mph which is not bad for 300 tons of aircraft.



It is now pretty certain that they were not far behind flight 93 and did request authority to engage, ie shoot it down. That authority was initially denied and was not given until 17 minutes AFTER flight 93 crashed into the field.



There is no doubt in my mind that the jets were sent up, but that they were always running after the game and had unclear direction and a lot of confusion.



It is really easy for us to look back in hindsight and be smart after the event about what should have happened, but if you cast your mind back to the day itself everyone was completey shellshocked and wrongfooted.



Its a very different game now and with the recent arrests in London over the next few days there were a lot of fighter planes in the air over the UK.



A friend who is an airline pilot has told me that on flights to the U.S now, he is regularly "intercepted" by fighters.



By the way, you do know that the web site which you refer to is a conspiracy theory propaganda site for people who believe that the USA is responsible for every bit of evil in the world. It is neither impartial or truthful.

Don't you think that if the government was culpable of such an elaborate scheme as the attacks of 9/11, they would also be capable of silencing all the dissenters who are coming up with the theories? Since most of those accusations are popping up on the Internet, wouldn’t they be doing what the governments of China, Russia, Iran etc… are doing and filter what gets on the Internet, then track the origins of the attempted postings and go pay those guys a little visit. That’s what they do in the above mentioned countries. And do you think that they would hesitate to assassinate those who are authoring books and articles “exposing” them? Or don’t you think the publishers and their families would be getting a friendly visit from some kindly secret service agent? I believe that the fact that all sorts of conspiracy theories are allowed to float around speak for the fact that the US Government had nothing to do with it.

They were idiot just too late no one knew what was happening till after the second plane hit the WTC. As fast as fighters are they can only get there as fast as the closing speed. The difference between the airliners speed and the fighters. The airliners were going approx 400 MPH . Fighters can't just pop up when and where you need them. That's Star Trek. To Neocon bush - I've been to the crash site of flight 93 and it did leave crater idiot. But even in a straight down descent of a plane the explosion will still scatter some debris through out a large area. Get your facts straight

1. They were scrambled. Just way to late because they were either "busy" or the government just waited to long

2. YES the government could pull off somthing so elaborate. Especially since most of them are Skulls and Bones.

3. They DO track the people that are posting that and do filter the material somtimes. This only really happens if somthing that they dont like becomes to popular an idea or to close to the truth. Otherwise people like the one a little earlier shrug it off as a conspiracy theory.

There are plenty of lies and bullsh!t floating around about 9/11. Basically people who analyze evidence closely believe it was a conspiracy and people who just believe what they saw accept what they are told.



It was said that F-16 fighters were scrambled SANS weapons to intercept the airliners United 93 and the one that hit the Pentagon. HOWEVER, I find this unbelieveable since F-16's normally have missiles and guns even during regular manuevers.



It was said the air trafic controllers were requesting options for the F-16's to RAM the passenger airliners if they were a threat, but since no one was sure what airliners were threats, no one in government wanted to make any quick calls.

(of course, this was the COVER STORY).



Many people believe United 93 was shot down and that there was no heroic actions taken unlike what the news and movie claimed. They believe this due to the wreckage scattering distance of the plane which was over 5 miles. Planes CRASH and leave craters...not wreckage over a 5 mile area.



I see it as highly possible that an F-16 at high speed could intercept the airliner and fire an AMRAAM missile to take it down. Unlike in the movies, a missile does not SHATTER an airframe. It leaves huge holes and blows pieces off.



If you believe the conspiracy theory then you'll think like I do. If not, then you'll just accept whatever TV says.

They were! All commercial liners were immediately forced to land at the nearest available airports! Choppers were also dispatched also. I live near a private airport that supports airforce personnel and aircraft and have a few oil refinneries nearby also. So you can immagine!
