I am joining either infantry or armored crewmen and can't choose which branch. My brother ships to army basic as a tanker in two months, but I'm leaning towards infantry. Opinions are greatly appreciated:)

Army is better for education and promotion opportunities. Soldiers usually get access to better equipment faster since they are a much bigger branch with more money. Marines have more of a "bad-a$s legacy", pride, and comraderie thing going for them. Marines are part of the Navy technically. Also every Marine is a rifleman before anything else.

Both branches are great infantry options. However only you will know what you want out of your time in the service. Talk to local recruiters from all the branches to see what your options are.

Addition: Also consider why you want Infantry for an MOS. Some jobs translate well into the civilian world and that one usually is harder to have do that. Plus you can sometimes get bonuses for certain MOS if you aren't too picky.

Addition: To clarify the Marines fall under the Department of the US Navy. Separate branches, same department. That's why our medical and chaplain service the Marines.

I could say marines. however thats me, permit me let you know. ANYONE can do what a fundamental soldier does. Marines or Army. But wether at the same time you within the carrier what YOU can do with that. All you might have is YOU and what YOU can do. So say you get by way of fundamental coaching that is anything that EVERYONE does. Ask your self in which are you able to pass with that, for illustration, would you're making it to Army Special Forces? how bout Marine Recon? thats the only you will have to quite be targeting.

Army tanker means your going to be in a stryker unit only in the Marines pfc's and lcp's are allowed to be crewmen in the Army you will have to wait unitil your rank speeds up a bit it take a good 4 years for you to be in a m1 I say go marines but your not guaranteed anything in Marines you could end up being a tracker.

First of all, to clarify, the Marines are NOT part of the Navy, the Marine Corps and the Navy are two completely different branches, each with their own representative on the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The only similarity is that we answer to the same civilian leadership.

On to your question. The Army will definitely offer you better equipment and training resources. The Marine Corps will offer you better training while teaching you how to excel without having to rely on fancy gadgets. There are some strong cultural differences. The Marine Corps emphasizes discipline and forces you to test yourself. The Army gives you a cell phone and pats you on the head.

Marines are a part of the department of the navy but our Commandant sits on the Joint Chiefs of Staff. My brother went Army and I was a Marine and we have compared notes many times (plus I was stationed right by 2 Army bases and used to eat in their chow hall so saw a lot of soldiers). There really is no comparison between the two branches...the Marines are much closer to what you see in the Army Rangers then their standard units. Army boot camp is run almost like a social club (again based on talking to my brother and looking at pictures he took of them grilling out sitting around with their drill Sergeant...which shocked the hell out of me, my first question was how did you get a camera in there, while my 2nd question was WTF are you guys doing grilling and what is that guy who looks like a DI doing sitting on a picnic table with the recruits?? Like I said I was shocked...there were no F'n cameras in Marine boot camp and no damn grill out sessions and our DI's damn sure didn't socialize with us) whereas Marine boot camp, besides being 5 weeks longer, is run more like a POW camp. If you go infantry in The Corps expect to spend 9 months out of the year in the field...it is a demanding life...and if the **** hits the fan and you end up in a war zone you quickly find out it's not near as much fun as you thought, when the bad guys have bullets and IED's. Good luck with your decision.

Your brother must be a hell of a lot smarter than you. If you had the chance to ride in a nice air conditioned taxi in the middle of the dessert vs. walking on foot with a 50 pound rucksack (with people trying to shoot) you, why would you do that?!?

But you know. The US military needs infantry and better the dumber ones than the smarter ones. Afterall, we need the smart ones to eventually come back and help fix this damn economy.
