When giving commands to a large group of people outside, it is HARD to enunciate every syllable and consonant and vowel when you are literally shouting.
The military breaks these commands down so that it is easy to hear and understand even if you are WAAAAAY in the back of the formation (as I usually am being short, lol).
For example, when you give the command, "Right face," you yell out, "Right HACE!" because the "f" sound doesn't carry as well.
When I went through BMT, my TIs used to teach us it's pronounced, "Tench-HUT!" for the command to come to attention.

It stands for Attention, Ten-Hut is easy to say and the HUT can be easily emphasized and enunciated.

It is a corruption of the word "attention."
In Canada, we say something like "ah tennnnnnn SHUN!" (Guardezzzzzzz VOUS! in French - sounds like guardayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy VOO.).
Commands, or even words are broken into the cautionary part, and the executive part. You move on the executive, or "action" part: like HUT, SHUN, or VOUS.

It is ten degrees below zero--in Fahrenheit. So it's -10 degrees Fahrenheit. Freezing in Fahrenheit is 32 degrees. I haven't noticed any misunderstandings about it. "Ten below" just means ten below zero here. "Ten below freezing" would be 22F but we wouldn't say that. We'd just say it's 22 degrees. Edited to add: For fun (LOL) I looked up what -10F converts to in Celsius. -10F equals -23.33C.

Not at all. It means 10 degrees below zero F or -10. Freezing is 32 degrees above zero.
