For my list of jobs i chose at MEPS, they are- HVAC, Electrical Systems, Info Mng, Pest Mng, TMO, Services, Aircrew Life Support, Maintenance Scheduling, and Fire Protection...

For anyone in the Air Force, how long of a wait do you think i have before any of them come open. And which job do you think i will most likely get.

I will not be going to basic as OPEN, i will have a guareenteed job...

Well, i wouldn't count on fire protection. I don't know to much about the other jobs. I am currently in the DEP as well. i went to meps 2 months ago, and i have already booked a job. i leave june 16th. BUT, i am doing what is called "a hard to fill job" (pararescue) so thats probably why i was able to book so quickly. Plan on being in the DEP for at least 3 months. but probably more. The person above me was correct some what. your recruiter does get a list of jobs he needs to fill, this is called a "job drop" BUT it come at the middle of the month and again towards the end. not at the beginning. DO NOT go in as open general. Good luck.

Not to dog on your career choices, but do plan on being completely bored for your entire first enlistment? I served as an Air Force Officer and worked along side many airmen and the common theme was that many in those fields hated their jobs with a passion (except fire protection). I worked very closely with Aircrew Life Support since I was in an F-16 squadron and they were absolutely bored to tears every day. MX scheduling, TMO, and IM will keep you stuck behind a desk staring at a computer screen all day ready to jab your eyes out with an ice pick. HVAC, ES, and PM at least get you out and about but those aren't respected career fields and usually get bottom-of-the-barrel treatment from operations leaders. Services offers you a wide range of available jobs, from Mortuary Affairs to handing out towels at the gym. That would be hit-or-miss.

If possible, look for something with Operations in the title...like Airfield Ops, Air Traffic Control, Intelligence, or anything that gets you working along side pilots. In the Air Force, if you are not a pilot, or directly supporting one, you don't mean a whole lot when it comes to funding and promotions.

Good luck, you will be one of the few that does get a guaranteed job, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I saw very few AF DEPS ship out with anything other than an open contract, during my 18 years as an Army Recruiter (100% of jobs, guaranteed, in writing, prior to enlistment).

My husband's friend applied for a guaranteed job in December and had to wait until this upcoming July for his ship date. Guaranteed isn't always the best option if you want to join right away

Your recuiter will get a paper at the begaihning of every month stating the jobs he/she has to fill if yours is on it then you may be able to get it if your the only one who's trying for that job out the office.
