Im planning to join the Reserve next summer. Is there any way i can hold off deployment until college graduation? and a recruiter told me that i can take online classes during deployment. I'll be working on a Biology major in college. Would i be able to continue that with an online school? Or is the only option to hold off school for the six months of deployment? And also, how are the haircut regulations like?

No you cannot hold off on deployment if your unit gets activated. However you may luck out and your unit may not get activated. It didn't happen that way with my husband but I'm sure it's happened at least once before.

Haircut regulations are pretty strict - you can tell a Marine (usually) by their hair.

Nah you can't hold off deployment..if your unit deploys then you deploy with them. My brother is a Marine reserve and usually reserves dont deploy out unless they need more Marines over seas. Chances are you won't get deployed during college...but if you do then you probably can take online classes when you're deployed...just explain to your professors and school the situation and I'm sure they will understand. But I don't think you would want to take online courses during deployment cause it might put on too much stress if you're someone that gets stress easily and you have much bigger commitments than school when you're over there. For your hair it needs to be a high and tight fade, always. My brother gets his hair cut about once a week, but his hair grows fast.

FYI, that whole "you can talk classes online" stuff is CRAP. They told my husband he would be able to continue with classes online during his deployment. Sure, it's a theoretical option. But, fact is, he works 12 hour shifts 6 days a week. He has no time at all for online classes. They just tell guys that crap, but it's not true at all. All of the guys and their wives are mad that they blatantly lied, telling them they would be able to take online classes during their deployments. No one who is deployed with them could possibly have any time whatsoever to complete any online classes. Unless they suddenly decide to get 4 hours of sleep a night.

There is no way to hold off on the deployment. The military tells you to go, you go. End of story. As for the haircuts, they're military hair cuts. You're a jar head, you get the jar head haircut. End of story.

Reserves is all well and good but you will be deploying just as much as active duty guys and have less taringng, less benefits, less pay... you might as well go active duty and do classes while your in. Reservists get screwed- its harder to pick up rank- and it sucks to say but they get less respect ... even though your doin the same s**t. As for hair cuts boot camp you get it shaved completely but once you get into a unit/fleet or whatever ...Hair will not be over 3 inches in length fully extended on the upper portion of the head. The back and sides of the

head below the hairline may be shaved to remove body hair. Sideburns will not extend below the top of the orifice of the ear, as indicated by the line A-A' in figures 1-1 and 1-2. Sideburns will not be styled to taper or flare. The length of an individual hair of thside burnrn will not exceed 1/8 inch when fully extended. aka HIGH AND TIGHT! Good luck !

Wait until you graduate then sign up. Or better yet, do ROTC your last year then join. Be an officer.

if you're worried about your hair maybe you should rethink joining.
