Well, here in my country we see France, Germany and UK as rich countries.

But what the first world countries think of each other? The Brits see Germany and France as developed countries? Like: Ohhhhh, they are living better than us.

Is there some resentment with Germany because of World War II?
Is there some resentment with France because of the wars between the two?

Do British learn that they lost some wars to france?

uk/ not so sure I would say we resent France and Germany having more than us.

as far as france goes I don't think we particularly like each other, as you say conflicts in the past and a general distrust of each other comes into play although we aren't at each others throats anymore. we do consider the French take too much out of the euro pot at our and Germanys expense.

as far as Germany is concerned I think on a whole we have more in common with them than other European countries.

People in England tend to notice Europeans have higher standards of living and education etc. Millions of people have left England to live in France and other European countries. People who are Right Wing see Germany through 'rose tinted glasses' as far as history is concerned, Germany was a noble honourable nation betrayed by Anglo French conniving they say. When you suggest Germany was blind to the risks of it foreign and domestic policy, the Right Wingers say Germany was simply defending herself. Germany you see, can do no wrong to the Right. England has not been in a war with France for a long time, few people know much about the place other than they make great wine and automobiles.

Stereotypes are sometimes quite widely held because there is an element of truth in them. For example the northern european countries are expected to respect each other as places where people work - the British generally quite admire some things German - such as their engineering - but are wary of the humourless style and love of discipline and control. The French are admired for their love of life and good living, but the British see them as arrogant and devious, looking after their own self interests. Everyone sees the British as aggressive, conniving, exploitative and thoroughly untrustworthy, but with the unusual ability to not take themselves too seriously and to laugh at their leaders. The Northern European nations are united in their views of the Southern Europeans as an idle corrupt lot.

That is the nature of stereotypes - strangely if you try to apply them to individuals they are usually wrong.

In the current crisis a British writer John Cleese described the reactions:

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent events in Syria and have therefore raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon,

though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." The English have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when

tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody Nuisance." The last time the British issued a "Bloody

Nuisance" warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.

The Scots have raised their threat level from "Pissed Off" to "Let's get the Bastards." They don't have any other levels. This is the reason they have

been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years.

The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels in France are

"Collaborate" and "Surrender." The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country's

military capability.

Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout Loudly and Excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing." Two more levels remain: "Ineffective Combat

Operations" and "Change Sides."

The Germans have increased their alert state from "Disdainful Arrogance" to "Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs." They also have two higher levels: "Invade a Neighbour" and "Lose."

Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels ..

The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.

Australia, meanwhile, has raised its security level from "No worries" to "She'll be right, Mate." Two more escalation levels remain: "Crikey! I think

we'll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!" and "The barbie is cancelled."so far no situation has ever warranted use of the last final escalation

level.

French are snobs who have weird class systems in power and hairy muffs.

Germans are retired nazis that still love sausages and have a hairy muff leader who claims she is queen of the EU.

Britain is full of snobs and lazy pricks who just want to put down other people so they become lazy also.

As a Brit we don't really compare our development with France and Germany. We think the French are sex obsessed, smelly ,rude EUROPEANS and we see Germany as War mongering, sausage eating, technical EUROPEANS.
