I'm doing a project for school and all of it is done exept the part where I have to write. I'm studying the french military uniform. I've drawn 1000 ad, 1050 ad, 1450 ad, 1580 ad, and the 1730 ad military wear and constructed a model of all of their helmets, now all I have to do is write half a page, explaining why uniforms changed overtime, but I can't find anything on the internet. Can anyone help out? If not can anyone help by maybe coming up with a similar topic I can write about that is relevant, so i wont have to change my whole project. thanks.

Different weapons, technology, military tactics, military necessity, and simple fashion are all reasons that uniforms change.

The reason why they change is because of feasibility and durability. Also it depends on the climate. If the theatre is hot like Iraq the Soldiers need to stay cool. If the climate is cold like Afghanistan, the Soldiers need to stay warm. In Afghanistan Soldiers are issued fire resistant cold weather gear. A good place to go would be http://www.natick.army.mil/about/pao/2004/04-33.htm. It is where new military gear is tested.

Lots of reasons

new materials - old uniforms were mainly wool, which is hot in the summer, newer uniforms were cotton and in the late 20th century, poly blends.

advances in camouflage

general officers with nothing better to do, wanting to make a mark, so they change the uniform for no reason what so ever.

back in the early 1800s and earlieerrr people wanted to die in style. Later in mid 1800s they wanted to represent their countries colors in 1900s they just wanted to blend in with their enviroment so they don't get spotted as quickly.
