How to mount a unit crest properly on the army black beret?

How do you get those stupid little pins in? Is there some kind of trick, or will I actually have to tear the thing apart just to get the flash out and do it that way?

Center mount the flash and crest... equal amount of space top and bottom, equal amount of space left and right. use the crest to pre-poke holes into it. once you are satisfied with distance, put flash and crest face down on table and push down on on the crest until the pins poke out the back side of the beret. now bend the pins to secure the crest to the flash, so you wont look like a tard when you are walking and the crest falls out.

The pins on the back of the crest just go right through the flash and the backing. They will stick out about a milimeter on the other side. You don't need to attach the backings (the little clamps). You may bent down the very tips of the pins on the crest, if you want, but be careful that that doesn't lead to it breaking off or becoming misalligned. it should be straight and centered. Most peopele just deal with the little pointy ends poking them every once in a while. Some peopen cut the tips of the pins off. I wouldn't recomend that, though. It will make the crest fall off to easily.
Also when you get your beret, you should carefully shave off the excess fuzz with a safety razor, inside and out (without cutting a hole in the fabric!), and you should put the fabric and leather band in hot tap water (without getting the cardboard front part or the area within a inch of the cardboard front part wet, as this will cause the colors to bleed into your flash and will make the cardboard deteriorate). Then ring it out a bit, and put it on your head wet, shaping it properly so that it is worn right and looks good and is flat against your head.

I didn't like the unofficial black berets of the 75th Ranger Regiment being issued to all soldiers. The black beret was earned not issued. BUT I hated the garrison hat, something had to be done to get rid of them. Now the leg army has the Black Berets that look good with class As and can fit in a cargo pocket when in ACUs. Airborne still has the red beret. SFGA still have the green beenie. Rangers now have the beige beret like those worn by the British SAS.

Actually, US Army Armor soldiers had adapted black berets before the Rangers got a hold of them. Personally, I think they should take every one of those wool socks and stick them up their collective be-hinds. I hated when we had to change over from soft caps to berets. I could deal with them being worn with Class A's or on certain occations. Even the damn Green Berets/Special Forces don't hardly wear their berets, except in garrison and with their dress uniforms.

A sharp knife with a pointy end, do it gingerly or you will cut the holes too big and end up ruining it and having to buy another beret

i have never had a problem getting them in, simply push them in with a little elbow grease and then bend the posts down or up so they are flush and don't poke you every time you don or doff your beret.
