from my perspective it was a failure - It succeeded in removing Saddam Hussein but was extremely expensive for the USA and contributed a great deal towards destabalizing not only the Middle East, but our own economy as well - as you remember our economy was near collapse in 2008. Plus many people lost their lives. As a result of the Iraq war - ISIS was born and many people have been beheaded since. It all depends on who you are and what your perspective is. The refugee crisis was born from all this. I think that if we knew that Great Britain had occupied Iraq and failed - then why at least didn't we have someone fly to England and have a cup of tea with the general of the failed campaign and at least find out why they failed. It would have made sense rather than repeating the same mistakes that they made. The bottom line is that it was a conflict that we needed to stay out of and mind our own business and by our intervention everything was basically made worse, not better. So, I don't know how you define win or lose. I think it was a terrible failure. I don't think it was all about oil as some people have said. Venezuela has much more oil than Iraq. So why didn't we attack them? And as far as the WMD's go? they proved later that they fell into the hands of Al Qaeda - not exactly where we wanted them to go.

It worsened the middle east. Saddam Hussein may have been a dictator, but he was a strong and capable leader who silenced resistance including terrorists. Now because Saddam is gone, there isn't good leadership in Iraq and terrorists are able to expand as a result; Iraq has become unstable and a haven for terrorism. This is WHY I cannot and will not vote for Hillary Clinton...because she as senator supported the Bush wars. She not only helped with that but also made Libya unstable when she as Secretary of state lead air strikes against gaddafi. Furthermore, she wants to turn Syria into another unstable Iraq by getting the USA even more involved in that nation (why?). If we get involved in Syria, war with Russia will occur. Hillary is Bush 2.0.

Saddam Hussein ended up on the end of a rope so the main objectives of the war were achieved. They certainly did not lose the war.

BUT, the effect of the Iraq War was destabilization, a power vacuum, the rise of Daesh. It would have been better to leave Hussein in power- contain him, and let him spout off impotent threats like Kim Jong-un.

The BEST thing in the Middle East are tyrants to keep Muslim fanaticism in restraint. The WORST thing is to liberate Muslim populations or give them Democracy- the result- suicidal fanatics on the loose.

It was, furthermore, a humanitarian disaster.

Depends on your definition of winning and losing. To an extent the Iraq war was a successful campaign because Saddam was removed from power and most of this top people were either captured or killed. On the other hand, we are responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens. And the instability in the region cause by toppling Saddam is part of the reason why ISIS exists today. Not to mention the strain on our own nation caused by the death of thousands of solders and the permanent disability cause to tens of thousands more.

Ultimately I believe history will show the US made a huge mistake by invading Iraq and removing Saddam from power.

Neither the USA nor Iraq had won. If what you mean by the USA and Iraq are its citizens, then, by no means, did either side win. The Iraqi people have been massacred ten times over than what Saddam Hussein had been doing to them, and we have been bankrupted by the acts of numerous handouts towards a war, which was premised on deceit, in which many parties had had their special stakes in from the beginning, on top of which had followed the crash of 2008 which had led to suicides and people now having a difficult time entering the workforce because of setbacks or "prioritization." So, really, where was the victory in all of this for many of us?

The only people whom I can see who had profited from this were Dick Cheney, former CEO of Halliburton, the Israeli government, worldwide financiers, and a handful of oilers. Thus, the global elite, people of whom have no nation but their own.

The US military did a magnificent job of winning the war in a textbook display of superior technology, superior tactics, superior leadership and employing modern, rapid command and control over what was the 3 largest military force in the world at the time. THE US military 'won the war' in one of finest examples of a swift, one sided victory, achieved in about 6 months. The US government however failed to 'win the peace' over the next 14 years to follow; much of this may be attributed to near treasonous partisan politics over the past 8 years of Obama - Clinton, which set out to 'prove' GW Bush was wrong and to be blamed for his 6 or so years administering the 'war'. The main simple reason for the war was to prevent the 911 type terrorists from ever becoming a major military force that could threaten the US or the west. Obama and Clinton turned a rag-tag bunch of 'jv league' terrorists into a major army with jets, tanks, oilfields, and control over much of the middle east. Won, then Lost.

Lose. The U.S. has not won a war in nearly a Century.

the Reason:

the U.S. is like a beat cop. When a fight breaks out it walks on in and waits until the Belligerents are tired out. Then makes the big show of cleaning the place up, and that has not happened since before the Korean Police Action.

The War Hawks of the U.S. government don't know how to start a war, even when Bush tried to follow Hitler's plan it failed.

The Iraq war destabilised the middle east quite a bit. By doing that the war opened up larger opportunites for terror groups and radical people to flourish. In the mind of terrorist they would believe that they won as their groups have grown and flourished because of it while on the us front the USA won in the term that they did what they had set out to do but the real question is was the cost of men and destabilising the middle east further more really worth it.

Okay, so as a Iraqi my selv i might know the answer - mayor loss. Do i say this beacuse i am "anti - american"? No. So when U.S invaded Iraq they did a big mistake, they should have finnished Saddam via politics. After the invasion and the killing Iraq is completely split. Also the more known terrorist group Isis are a mayor treat to european and american citizens. The good new though is that Iraq is getting more stable but still very corrupt. And beacuse of the massive pressure the kurdish Peshmerga and the Iraqi army are giving to Isis, we might see alot of attacks on citizens the following months or years..

The first Iraq war, USA won.

The second Iraq war should never have happened in the first place. Therefore, USA lost the second Iraq war before it even began. Even if USA technically won the war.

All the US forces did in Iraq was change things around. They went in there thinking that as soon as they got rid of Saddam Hussein the country would welcome open fair elections and become peaceful. Advisers warned the president that deposing Saddam Hussein would create a power vacuum and factions would try and take power by fair or foul means. The different factions of Islam there all believe they should be in charge and worry if another faction gained power they would not get a fair go and so if they lost the US controlled elections they would start a war of guerrilla tactics filling the citizens with fear by using explosives blowing up civilian targets to make people feel unsafe and as so the present government cannot protect them from the violence. People become scared and frustrated as their elected government fails to get on top of the violence and the guerrillas start to agitate and stir the citizens in the hope they can pressure the current government to quit.

As a 19 yrs old fresh of high school I thought invading Iraq was the right thing to do.I joined the Marines in 2003. I joined because of 9/11.As a 19yrs old I thought it was a good idea,as a 32 yo man I believe it's hard to see what we won,I do know that I lost friends, but we took out insurgents. Personally I believe that yes,we put away Saddam, but we lost too many lives. I'm not saying my brothers died in vain, most of them just wanted Iraqis to be free kids.I'll always remember your guys.

Everyone lost. Saddam was toppled, but there has been no appreciable gain in toppling him. Iraq is now disproportionately controlled by rebel militias, and the instability that was created in Iraq has subsequently spilled out into the rest of the middle east; leading to Libya (and potentially Syria) becoming a failed state.

The US spent trillions of dollars and thousands of US servicemen lost their lives, for no good reason.

Kind of think the Iraqi was lost when the people did not welcome the troops and take joy in their "freedom" Once again the Generals helped the Generals. Must be there job to engage to justify their salaries. The war supported by military to JFK, LBJ and Nixon was such a great disaster. So I guess some can take heart that this war will be longer; but, take not nearly lives of the countries heroes of this country

Depends on the persepetive, Certain people in the did US profit from the fall of Saddam and the destabilization of the region. If we look at it in the "war on terror" sense, then its a certain absolute loss considering the rise in Islamist terror organizations since, It also certainly wasnt a win for the Iraqi people nor the American people since both are probably at a higher chances of being targeted now than they were before.

But it would be wrong to say that US lost Iraq War. US achieved its military and strategic goals. It however should have stayed in Iraq for longer to prop up democracy in the nation.

Look at it this way~~

The war in Iraq is/was , but a stage for more wars ...,

Which appears has a global view , in the plan...

Our borders are open , with increasing numbers of Muslim refugees coming in un-vetted...no checked/confirmation proof ,of who they are,--or even their true age....Minors --are treated differently , in benefits , or in courts of law. Germany has serious problems (many unreported by main stream news) with the number of Muslim refugees already there ....water & oil simply is not mixing there with the German People...causing many problems including sleeper cells mixed in .

Did we win the war ~~~?

No ---it's still going on ...

We need to secure our borders in ways to weed the bad guys out..., as is happening in the UK---/Germany/France/Sweden & more.

Donald Trump ...has said that he would do this ~~~secure our borders first to safeguard American lives and figure out a way to solve this problem

I'm all for that ....then as President Donald Trump ----he would then proceed to destroy ISIL , with active high determination ---unlike it appears-- being the case now, by our current President.

Have a nice day.

This is very complicated question. On one hand, we won because we completed our objective to remove Saddam Hussein from power and made sure there weren't any WMD's for terrorist to get their hands on. On the other hand we lost thousands of lives and pulled out of the country horribly and created a vacuum, thanks to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, which led to the creation and rise of ISIS, which is now retaking territories that were once held and controlled by the Iraqi government.
