I tried going as a officer before but they didn't accept me, so I decided to go enlisted and now I went through MEPS, and now I'm in the DEP. BUT my recruiter for the officer program contacted me back and told me I should try to apply again...cause I just needed to raise my score up a little.

I've already worked with my enlisted recruiter and don't want to back out of going enlisted now since all this work has been done...my question to you guys is what would you do? Stay enlisted now that your in the DEP program or try as a officer again raising your test score a little and going the officer route?????

You should reapply for the officer program.

Then let us assume you are accepted for the officer program after testing again. Now you file a form with the enlisted recruiter that you are leaving the DEP program. They have to fill in a form where you give a reason. One of the check boxes on the form is something like "I have entered into an officer commissioning program" and that is a good and valid reason. Your DEP enlistment contract gets cancelled and you are good to go.

You'd rather enlist and make less money and have a lower standard of living rather than try to get a commission, more money, better life overall, and contribute to the Navy is a bigger way? All because you're afraid your recruiter will be upset?

First, it's YOUR life. Not your recruiter's. If he can't see that getting a commission would be better for you, then he has the problem. Secondly, I sincerely doubt that he would be upset.

Listen. I did 23 years enlisted...retired as an E7, and I was happy the vast majority of that time. HOWEVER...if I'd had the opportunity, I would have done anything necessary, early on, to get a commission.

First, thanks for the answer on my question. His recruiter has been NO HELP at all. He keeps telling my fiance that he can apply for OCS right after boot camp, which we are finding out is not necessarily true. From everything we have heard, he should have just done OCS to begin with, rather than listening to his recruiter.

I'm glad you found an Officer Recruiter in your area. His enlistment recruiters keep telling him there aren't any around here. We find that hard to believe though, because there are tons of recruiting stations in Ohio.

My fiance doesn't want to screw his recruiter over, but he is not acting like he wants to help do anything. He got the qualifying test scores and such.

My fiance just called and spoke to his recruiter again and he said he shouldn't apply until he gets through AIT. Everyone else tells him to apply now, one Army officer actually told my fiancee to go to another recruiting station and get a new recruiter.

From the research we've done, and reading your information, it seems to me like OCS is just way better for the individual soldier.. if you can find a recruiter to actually help you through it.
