Im currently stationed in South Korea. I want to deploy to Afghanistan before it gets closed out. Ive already been to Iraq and I guess you could consider it a travel thing. Ive seen Iraq and now I want to see the other. I deployed to Iraq in 2006 and have been stationed in Fort Polk and now Korea. Ive been trying to deploy again but it seems as if the army doesnt want me to. I feel like im being wasted. Can I PCS early from Korea to link up with a deploying unit?

You need to contact your Branch Manager.

That said, it probably is not going to happen from the ROK.

We are going to be in Afghanistan for a few more years yet. Start in with your Branch Manager now for trying to get to a unit that is going after you leave the ROK.

Talk to your UDM about volunteering for a slot with another unit - takes some paperwork but just realize if you volunteer you have to be available for your home units deployment tasking when that comes.

You go - you come back and two weeks later your home unit is shipping out and guess who is there with them - you are.

I am in the same boat and I am trying to volunteer for this summer to be back in time for a possible tasking next year for my home unit....talk to your deployment manager - check out the volunteer listings
