I am in the army and I was sent a letter via email about an injury i received while I was in training. The form I am filling out asks me if the injury is service connected and if so is there an approved Line of Duty. I have never filled out a form like this and I do not understand what this means. Can someone please help me and clarify this? Thanks c:

A Line of Duty is a form that certifies that you were injured while on duty for the Army.

That's all that is. If you have health problems later on, you can use this as documented proof that the injury was as a result of being in the service (and not other causes such as hereditary or hurt off-duty).

Some idiot threw a tent pole and it ricocheted and hit me on the foot. I had to fill one out and get eyewitness testimony from other soldiers.

Don't respond to OJ or whatever his name is since he keeps changing it every 30 minutes...he's a creep and he will stalk you on here, like what he's been doing to me. He will start saying the most disgusting things or insult you to get your attention. It's best to just ignore him or block him. If he says anything offensive, just report him.

It sounds as though you are in the Army Reserve or Army National Guard.

If you are on Active Duty and need help with the form, go to the Patient Administration (PAD, or records room) section of your clinic or hospital and the PAD clerk will help you.

If you are in the USAR or ARNG, check with your unit first to see if they have done a LOD (Line of Duty) determination. If they haven't, also check with the PAD section of the hospital/clinic that took care of you. If no one has done it, ask your unit to initiate it.

The reason they are asking about it is the LOD documents that this is from your military service and the military or VA is responsible for any ongoing medical care you need as a result of the injury. If the injury is disabling and you file a VA claim about it, you may need the LOD for documentation.

If the injury occurred while you were on Active Duty or Active Duty for Training, and you were not disobeying any orders, it is considered service connected and in the line of duty. If you were disobeying orders (such as being AWOL, injury from DUI, injury while committing a crime, etc) then it MAY not be. If there is any doubt, or if you are in the USAR or ARNG, the unit does a line of duty determination. If you were obeying orders and on AD or ADT, it is in the line of duty and they will document it. If there is any question that you were injured while disobeying orders, they will make a decision about if it is severe enough to state that it was not in the line of duty (most of the time they still decide it was in the line of duty) and document it. This is also used to document if it was service-connected and in the line of duty if you were traveling to or from ADT or mobilization, etc.

Beth, I hear you callin'

But I can't come home right now

Me and the boys are playin'

And we just can't find the sound

Just a few more hours

And I'll be right home to you

I think I hear them callin'

Oh, Beth what can I do

Beth what can I do

You say you feel so empty

That our house just ain't a home

And I'm always somewhere else

And you're always there alone

Just a few more hours

And I'll be right home to you

I think I hear them callin'

Oh, Beth what can I do

Beth what can I do

Beth, I know you're lonely

And I hope you'll be alright

'Cause me and the boys will be playin'

All night

Sitting on the toilet at boot camp is a line of duty. They are asking if you were off base goofing around. So YES. if you are in training at school during school hours. Yes. They want to know if they are liable.
