In end of 2008 I sent dd form 397 certified mailed with all the info from 1950-1985 to the defense dept?

my brother passed 10/2008 army vet from combat related injuries, he told me what to do when he passed so I did. One of the form I got was as stated above off the internet military.com I filled it out as instructed and sent it to the dfas certified I received the card back signed but I haven't heard anything else. I went back to the website and found out there was a new form issued 12/2008 the one I mention above. I need help filling out the form but no one I called VA,Finance,accounting etc.seem to not know anything. I ask can they tell me how to reach a service casualty member.No help there. I tried to contact the man that signed for the package no reply. What else can I do and how can I find someone to find out where the man that signed for the package sent it to and to whom ?

You need to notify your congressional rep. They can look into this and may have more pull than you do. In addition, you might want to go to your local American Legion and see if you can speak with someone there. They might be able to help. Listen to the advice given above. The DAV is really good at getting to the bottom of things.

Go to the local office of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), they will have an office in the VA facility near you. Explain your problem to them, take all pertinent paperwork and they will assist you. Their Service Officers are the best.

Your best bet is to call your local Veterans Assistance Office. Also called A Veterans Service Office. They are your best chance in getting the exact information you need.



I always go to the office myself. Never allow them to confuse you on the phone.
