is it possible for an infantry guy to go national guard and still be stationed close to WI or IL.?

im a PFC and im 19 i also have a permanet profile and im stationed in germany. whats my first step that i should take to become a natoinal guard member?

This would depend on your profile. If it is a permanent P3 then you will not be accepted (National Guard has to meet the same medical standards as active duty.)

First off you need to qualify your profile - if you are being discharged for Medical reasons; then the ARNG will not take you. However, if your profile is a limited one; then it will be up to the recruiter/unit to do a waiver.

I would recommend you that you call 1-800-GO GUARD and talk to a recruiter to see if your profile restricts you from the ARNG.



The Joint Task Force (old State Area Command) is in Madison - on Wright Street. The 32nd BCT is a light BCT with Detachments/Bns across the state. first talk to your 1sgt for steps to transfer to the ng. contact a recruiter in wi or il/ng type/ to find out what inf units are in those states. this will tell if any slots are open. make sure that you let them know what type of perm profile you have. the guard is always looking for well qual solders. good luck. did you know the ng is the orgin army and is written into the Constitution.

The infantry *IS* the army. the different activity, the different MOS is there to help the infantry. The infantry is the grunt with the rifle that takes and holds territory. there is concepts-blowing management education in the infantry, yet no longer lots in the way of alternative skills that translate to civilian jobs. in case you're watching a "wrestle" activity that interprets nicely to civilian existence, look into wrestle engineers.

Serve your 4 years, then head home. National guard should accept you in your own state to not disrupt your daily life. The transition should be quite pleasant given its quite a slower pace.

There is an Infantry NG unit (D Co, 2/128) in Wisconsin but I'm not sure where. It might be in Madison or Watertown but I'm not quite sure.



Talk to higher up about transferring back to an NG unit. Be sure to use your chain-of-command. If they tell you to f*ck, request mast and try to get your situation settled.

It's possible. It's also quite possible that you will be sent to Iraq. Nearly 1/3 of ground troops are guard.
