I don't know where you four people answering this question get your info but holy crap is it off.

Yes, you can enlist directly into EOD in ALL branches EXCEPT the Marine Corps without any prior service experience, it's been that way for awhile. It shouldn't be, but it is.

Most likely the first time you ever see a bomb suit or a JLIST (chem suit) will be when you are getting ready to take your initial test. We aren't testing your ability to don and doff the suits/hemlet/mask, we are testing your ability to push through, perform various tasks and to see if you are claustrophobic. There's really nothing for you to be trained on for that. You either are or aren't claustrophobic and you can either suck it up or you can't suck it up.

Don't worry about the bomb suit/chem suit test. Just be in pretty good physical condition, make sure you're hydrated and do everything the EOD techs tell you to do. They will watch for your safety and they won't ask you to do anything none of us haven't done. We've all done it, we all got it over with and we all went on to NAVSCOLEOD to become EOD techs.

Your biggest challenge will be school, not the pre-entry tests.

All branches of the military go through the same EOD school, at Eglin AFB.

And yes, you are trained in the suits before you are take any tests associated with them. Most of your tests will be taken outside the bomb and chem suits though (except those test directly associated with them).

My fiancé joined the royal engineers, did a trade course and then a bombs course and after two years of training went on tour. He said that they dont actually wear the suits much because they are hot and bulky and get in the way of delicate work. Also they dont protect you from the blast, if it goes off you could die anyway.
